Don’t Give Up

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - If - Galatians 6:9- Don't Give Up - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – If – Galatians 6:9- Don’t Give Up – Growing As Disciples

So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Galatians 6:9 (NLT)

Balance

You’re weary and worn out. I can see that. You have been working very hard. I know that. You have exhausted yourself physically, emotionally and spiritually. Don’t think that I like what I see. Don’t think that I ever want you to reach such a depleted condition. There is nothing praiseworthy in that. There is no blessing in reaching the point where you can go no farther or give no more. You have allowed your life to get out of balance. You have lost your joy. You have no vibrancy within you. That is not my plan. This is not my will. What is your plan? What is your will? I want what you want. I’m glad to hear that.

My plan is that you will rely on me. Your own strength will not be enough to sustain you. Draw near to me and I will draw near to you. I will revive you. I will refresh you. I will restore you. Allow me to fill you afresh with my Holy Spirit. Rely on my strength to carry you. Rely on my strength to sustain you. Come to me now. Rest in my presence. Receive your guidance from me. Allow me to guide and direct your life. I will lead you to where I want you to go. I will show you what I have given you to do for me. Don’t yes say to every request that comes your way. Do what I give you to do for me. Do nothing more. Do nothing less. It is a trick and a trap to wear yourself out in doing too many things. I will give you wisdom. I will help you to know what I want you to do for me. Does all this make sense to you? Will you do what I am asking of you? Yes Lord, I will do what you are asking of me.

You live in a body. That should come as no surprise to you. It doesn’t. You are not taking good care of your body. You can do nothing for me if you don’t take proper care of your body. What do you have in mind? You must get adequate sleep. You must eat a healthy diet. You must get good exercise. I get it. I will take care of my body. I have more to say to you. I’m listening. I want you to enjoy the life that I have given to you. I want your life to be filled with my joy. Do things that you enjoy. Take time to unwind. There is a time to relax just as there is a time to work. I want others to see my joy in you. Does this make sense to you? Yes, it does. You want me to work and play hard. Yes, I do. With your life in balance you will not grow weary. You will bear an abundance of fruit as you keep on serving me.

Lord, there have been many times I have let my life get out of balance. I have not had adequate sleep, good exercise and a healthy diet. I have relied on my own strength. Revive my life as I meet with you in prayer. Fill me and refresh me with your Holy Spirit. Amen

Let Us Run With Perseverance

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Let Us - Hebrews 12:1 - Let Us Run With Perseverance - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Let Us – Hebrews 12:1 – Let Us Run With Perseverance – Growing As Disciples

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Hebrews 12:1 (NIV)

Marked Out

It’s all marked out for you. What’s all marked out for me? The race that I want you to run is all marked out for you. It is? Yes, it is, that’s what I just said. What do you mean by that? You know who you are following, don’t you? Yes, I am following you. You’re not following the world and its values? No, I am not. If you are following me what will you be doing? I will be keeping my eyes on you. I will be depending on you instead of relying on my own wisdom and insight. I want to go where you guide me and do all that you ask for me. I want to do what pleases you. I want to bear fruit for your kingdom and your glory. I want my life to be a tool in your hand. In every way I want to know and do your will. That will be very good. You are not in this race running alone. You have others that are running right alongside you. Do you know why that is important? I can give and receive encouragement as I keeping on running the race marked out for me. When others are tempted to quit the race and give up I will be there to encourage them. When others are weary and worn out I will be there to encourage them to keep moving forward with you. Yes, you can and yes you will. As you encourage and strengthen others you yourself will be encouraged and strengthened. You have others that have gone before who have completed their race. They are waiting for you at the finish line. Do you know why this is important? If I become discouraged I will know that others have run well and completed their race. If I become weary I will know that others have kept running well right up to the finish line. Yes, and what else? Just as others have run well and kept running right up to the finish line, so will I. One day I want my life to serve as a witness that others can be encouraged by. I want my life to help cheer others on as they run the race that you have marked out for them. Keep following me. Keep your eyes fixed on me.  Then you will run well and finish your race. Who else will be waiting for you at the finish line? Who else will be praying for you and giving you strength as you run your race? You are at the finish line. You are praying for me. You will give me strength to run. My eyes will be fixed on your as I run the race that you have laid out for me. Run well. Run with my strength in you. Yes Lord, I will.

Lord, all the witnesses that have gone before me or are now beside me give me great encouragement to run the race you have marked out for me. I will throw off anything that hinders my running. I will fix my eyes on you as you lead me to the finish line. Amen

All May See Your Progress

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - So That - 1 Timothy 4:15-16 - All May See Your Progress - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – So That – 1 Timothy 4:15-16 – All May See Your Progress – Growing As Disciples

Practice these things, immerse yourself in them, so that all may see your progress. Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers.  1 Timothy 4:15-16 (ESV)

Progress

Do you want to make progress in your faith? How would I define progress in my faith? What would progress in my faith look like? That’s a very good question that I want you to think about and answer. Why is that? I want you to tell me what you want. Why is that? It’s important for you to know what you want. Why is that? You can’t have what you don’t desire and do not want. Clarifying to yourself what you really want will give you desire. When you really desire something you will pursue it. When you really desire something you will keep on asking me for it as you pursue it with all your heart and mind and soul and strength. Are you asking me, “what do I really want?” Yes, I am.

I want to know you. I want to live in an intimate relationship with you. I want to be able to hear your voice. I want you to hear my voice. You want to have conversations with me? Yes, I want to live in an ongoing dialogue with you. I want to know your will. I want to live and walk in your ways. I want to be fully devoted to you. How will you go about doing that? I’m not positive. I do have some ideas. Let me hear your ideas. I will immerse myself in your word. I will meditate on your word day and night. I will let your word change my heart and transform my mind. I will put your word into practice in my life. I will think, say and do what your word instructs me to think, say, and do. I will leave behind any thought, word, or action that is not consistent with your word. That will be very good. What else? I will offer myself to you as a living sacrifice. What do you mean by that? I will do whatever you ask of me. I will use the gifts that you have given to me. I will go and do the ministry that you have given me to do for you. I will allow you to bear fruit in and through my life. I will allow you to use me for your glory. That will also be very good. Anything else? As I walk with you, live in dialogue with you, and serve you I will be on guard. On guard against what? I will be on guard against drifting away or getting off track. I will make sure that my life and ministry keep on track with you. I will watch my life. I will watch my ministry. I will make sure that my life and ministry remain faithful and fully devoted to you. Yes and you will know me. You will know my will and walk in my ways. You will have what you desire from me. You will hear from me. I will hear from you. You will remain faithful and you will grow in your faith.

Lord, I am fully devoted to you. It is the desire of my heart to grow in my relationship with you. I want to know you, your will and your ways. I will immerse myself in your word. I will throw myself in the ministry you have given to me. Use me for your glory. Amen

So That You May Be Healed

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - So That - James 5:16 - So That You May Be Healed- Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – So That – James 5:16 – So That You May Be Healed- Growing As Disciples

Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.  James 5:16 (NIV)

Powerful And Effective

Do you want to be able to pray prayers that are powerful and effective? Do you want to pray prayers that I will hear and answer? Do you want to pray prayers that will bring healing to others and yourself? Yes of course, I want to pray powerful and effective prayers. I really do want to pray prayers that you will hear and answer. I want to pray healing for others and for myself. How can I pray these kinds of prayers? That is a very good question.

One thing is necessary if you want to pray prayers that are powerful and effective. One thing is required if you want to pray prayers that I will hear and answer. What one thing is necessary? You must hear from me. I will give you the prayers that I want you to pray. You must pray prayers that are according to my will. You must pray prayers that are according to my purposes and my plans.

How will I ever be able to hear from you? How will I be able to know if you have given me a prayer to pray? What will hinder you from hearing from me? Sin will hinder me from hearing from you. If I am living in sin I will have a very difficult time hearing from you. That’s right. I will also have a very hard time hearing from you if I have not confessed my sins to you. Why is that? When I know that I am either living in sin or not confessing my sins I am likely to be distant from you. Instead of drawing near to you I am more likely to want to hide from you. You’re right again. So, if you want to hear from me what will you do? I will both leave sin behind and confess my sins to you. You will draw near to me to confess your sins to me? Yes, I will. You will draw near to me as you leave sin behind? Yes, I will. Then you will hear from me.  There is more that you want to tell me, isn’t there? Yes, I have one more question for you.

What will help you to hear from me? We just talked about what would hinder me from hearing from you. Yes, we did. This is other half of the answer to your questions. What were my questions? How will you ever be able to hear from me? How will you be able to know if I have given you a prayer to pray? I don’t know the answer to your question. Oh, I’m sure that you do know the answer. I don’t think so. What would you do if you desperately wanted to hear from me? I would seek you with all my heart. I wouldn’t give up. I wouldn’t let up. I would be urgent. I would be unrelenting. I would be insistent and persistent. You know what that sounds like to me? I’m not sure. It sounds like the answer to my question. Really? Yes, really. Seek me with all your heart. Don’t give up. Don’t let up. Be urgent and unrelenting. Be insistent and persistent and you will certainly hear from me. You will know that I have given you prayers to pray. You will know that you are praying powerful prayers that I will hear and answer. Then that is exactly what I will do. That will be very good.

Lord, I will not try to cover up or hide from my sins. I will confess all my sins to you and to any one I have sinned against. I don’t want anything to get in the way and hinder my prayers. I want to be able to pray powerful prayers that you will hear and answer.  Amen
