Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Discipleship – James 2:14-17 – What Good Is It – Growing As Disciples

What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. James 2:14-17 (ESV)

Real Faith

What kind of faith do you want? I’m not sure what you mean. Do you want to have a faith that is real and vibrant and alive? Do you want to have a faith that will change you from the inside out? Do you want to have a faith that will change all your thoughts and words and deeds? Do you want to have a faith that that can be seen by others in the world? Do you want to have a faith that will be bold and daring? Do you want to have a faith that will make you able to go where I guide you? Do you want to have a faith that will make you able to do what I ask you? I will say an emphatic yes to every one of your questions. I want to live a life of faith in you, that is just as your questions describe. That is very good.

Faith in me that real is vibrant and will make you come alive. Real faith in me will change you from the inside out. Real faith in me will change all your thoughts and words and deeds. Real faith in me stands out. Real faith in me will get noticed in the world. Real faith in me will shine brightly in the darkness of this world. Real faith is bold and daring. With real faith in me you will be able to go where you would have never gone. With real faith in me you will be able to do what you could have never done. Real faith in me will make you able to bear fruit for my kingdom and bring glory to my name. Yes, I definitely want this kind of faith in you. That is very good.

There is no other kind of faith than what I have described. Real faith will never leave you the same. Real faith in me will change your heart, transform your mind and guide your life. Anything less than what I have described is not real faith. If you have real faith in me, you will place all your trust in me. Will you place all your trust in me? Will you allow me to change everything about you? Will you allow me to work in and through your life? Yes Lord, I will. That is very good.

Lord, I want to live a life of faith that is alive. I want to live a life of faith that can be seen by others in the world. I want to live a life of faith that leads me to do your will. I want to live a life of faith that bears fruit for your kingdom and brings glory to your name. Amen
