Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Life In Christ – John 10:9 – The Gate – Growing As Disciples

I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture.  John 10:9 NIV)

The Door

I know who you are. That is a bold statement. I didn’t intend to make a bold statement. There is nothing wrong with making a bold statement. Let me hear what you have in mind. You are my door of my protection. Yes, I am. You are watching over my life. You are taking care of me. You are guarding and guiding my life as I love, follow and serve you. You are steering me away from darkness. You are leading me in the light. You are interceding for me as I walk through life with you. You are guiding me to where you want me to go. You are giving me what you want me to do. Yes, I am. I am entering into the life that you always intended for me to live. Since I confessed my sins to you and turned my life over to you, everything has become new and different. How so? You have healed my bruised and battered and broken life. You have led me into places of quiet peace and rest with you. You have restored my soul. You have filled me with the desire to fully live my life with and for you both for now and forever. Isn’t that good? It is way beyond good. Words cannot express the thankfulness I have in my heart for the completely new life I have in you. That is very good.

But, there is much, much more. Tell me about it. You are not only the door of my protection. You are the door of my entrance into heaven with you. This life is not all that there is. This life is like the snap of the fingers or a blink of an eye. Yes, it is. You made it so I could enter into eternal life with you forever. Yes, I did. You paid for all my sins. You cleansed all my unrighteousness. In you, I have been forgiven. In you, I have an inheritance in heaven that is being kept and guarded for me. You are my Savior and Lord. Yes, I am. One day, I will come to live forever in heaven with you. Yes, You will. I am looking forward to that day. Thinking of that day fills me with peace and hope and joy. That is very good. Yes, it is.

Lord, thank you for being my Good Shepherd. You watch over me. You take care of me. You are my door of protection in this life. Thank you for also being my door to eternal life forever in heaven with you. It is now my joy to love and follow and serve you. Amen
