We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. The man who says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys his word, God’s love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did. 1 John 2:3-6 (NIV)
Your Love
Do you know me? Do you love me? Yes, I know and love you. Could I know and love you more? There is no doubt about that. Do I want to know and love you more? There is also no doubt that either. How do you know you know me? How do you know that you love me? I know that I know and love you because I am obeying your commands. Do I obey your commands perfectly? I am sure that I do not. But it is my desire to love you with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. Following and obeying you is no great burden to me. It is my joy and delight to do what is pleasing to you. With that in mind, I am not considering what bare minimum might be required of me, if I want to truly express my love to you. Such a thought would be ridiculous. My love for you makes me want to think and speak and act in new and different and even more creative ways to express my love to you. That is very good.
What will your life look like as you express your love to me? Who will you resemble as you love and follow and serve me? Whose example will you follow? What pattern has been set before you? I will follow the example of your Son. I will follow the example that Jesus Christ has set before me. I will love as He loved. I will give as He gave. I will serve as He served. It my hope and prayer and desire to think and speak and act like your Son. I want to walk as He walked. I want to live as He lived. I want to go and do what He did. So, that is what I am asking of you. Help me to live the life you are calling me to live. Help me to demonstrate my love for you by obeying all that you ask of me. You will have my help. I will hear and answer this prayer of yours. Thank you, Lord.
Heavenly Father, I love you. I will listen attentively to your word. It is no burden for me to follow and obey your commands. It is the desire of my heart to do whatever is pleasing to you. Help me to walk like Jesus walked as I go and do all that you ask of me. Amen
