Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 207 – 1 John 2:24-27 – His Anointing Teaches You – Growing As Disciples

See that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father.  And this is what he promised us–even eternal life.  I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray.  As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit–just as it has taught you, remain in him.  1 John 2:24-27 (NIV)

Been Taught

What have you heard? What have you been taught? What are you remembering? What are you putting into practice? How are you remaining in me? What will keep you from being led astray? What will keep your life on course? Why do you have no need for anyone else to teach you? Why can you be confident that I will teach you? You have asked me a lot of questions. Yes, but I have not overwhelmed you. I have not asked you questions that you cannot answer. Do you know why that is? Yes, I do. Tell me why you know that I have not asked you questions you could not answer. You have already taught me the answers to these questions. I’d like to hear more on this subject from you. Go ahead, answer my questions. You have taught me to remain in you. You have taught me to live my life in an intimate relationship with you. You have taught me to listen attentively to you. You have taught me to receive your instruction and follow your guidance. You have taught me to rely on you rather than on myself. I can trust that you will teach me. I can trust that you will guide me. You will keep my life on course. You will prevent me from going astray. I will not be deceived as I keep my heart and mind and life sharply focused on you. Why do I know all this to be true? This is what you have been doing for me as I have loved and followed and served you. Have I learned all these lessons perfectly? Have I made no mistakes? Have I taken no missteps? Have I not sinned against you? Yes, I have done all these things. Yet, you forgive my sin and cleanse my unrighteousness. You allow me to begin again. You keep on drawing me back to you. You draw near to me as I draw near to you. As I walk with you through life, you have been, are now, and will be my teacher. I have no doubts about you and your goodness to me. I’m listening attentively to you. I am walking through life with you. I am following you to where you lead me. I am doing what you ask of me. I am holding on to you as you hold on to me. Thank you for being my teacher. I will keep on putting your word into practice in my life. That is very good. You have answered my questions well.

Holy Spirit, thank you for being my teacher.  I will hear, receive and learn all you want to teach me. Help me to remember and hold on to, and put into practice, all you have taught me. Keep my life on course, not going astray, as I love, follow and serve the Lord. Amen
