Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Becoming Like Christ – Day 287 – Philippians 1:9-11 – May Be Able To Discern What Is Best – Growing As Disciples

And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ–to the glory and praise of God. Philippians 1:9-11 (NIV)

Discern

That is what I want to be able to do. What do you want to be able to do? I want to be able to discern what is best. I want to be able to know and do your will. I want to live a life that is good and right and pleasing to you. I want knowledge and insight that comes from you. I want you to be proud of the life I am living for you. I want my life to bear and an abundance of fruit for your kingdom. I want to bring glory to your name. Those are very good desires that you have in you. This is a good prayer that you are praying.

How will you know if you are living a life that is good and right and pleasing to me? How will you know if you have received knowledge and insight from me? How will you know if I will be proud of the life you are living? I could ask you. Yes, you can definitely ask me. It is always good for you to come and ask me what you do not know. I will help you to see what you cannot see. I will help you to know what you do not know. Never stop coming to me. Never stop asking for my help. Never stop relying on me. I will always come to you. I will always pray to you. I will always rely on you. That will be very good.

Have I given you an example to follow? Have I shown you how to live your life? Yes Lord, you have given me an example to follow. I can pattern my life after yours. How will you pattern your life after mine? First of all, my love for you, will keep my heart and mind and life focused on you. I will consider your life. I will go where you went. I will do what you did. Where did I go? What did I do? You went to those who were in need. You loved and cared for others. As I keep my heart and mind and life focused on you, I will love like you loved, served like you served and give like you gave. Where else did I go? What else did I do? You went to prayer. You lived in intimate and ongoing relationship with your Heavenly Father. You received your guidance and direction from Him. He gave you all the knowledge and insight you needed to live a life that was good and right and pleasing to Him. That is true. Follow my example and you will have all that you have asked of me. That, I will do. That will be very good. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, help me to discern the best way to live my life. Show me what really matters. Cause my love for you to keep my heart and mind and life focused on you. Help me to live a life that bears fruit and brings glory to you. Help me to love others with your love. Amen
