Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 308 – Luke 8:11-15 – The Seed On Good Soil – Growing As Disciples
“This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God. Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. Those on the rock are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away. The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature. But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop. Luke 8:11-15 (NIV)
Deeply Planted
Do you want that? Do I want what? Do you want me to deeply plant my word in you? Yes, of course, without a doubt, with no hesitation, I want you to deeply plant your word in me. Why is that true? Why is that your heart felt desire? Why do you feel this so passionately within you? I know what will happen to me if I allow you to plant your word in me. What will happen to you? I will be changed. You will use your word to change my heart, transform my mind, and guide my life. You will use your word to make me able to resist temptation and fight against evil. You will use your word to help me to think your thoughts, speak your words and do your deeds. Your word will guard and guide me. Your word will help me to know and do your will. You will use your word to make me able to live the life you have called me to live. I will be able to shine like a star in the universe for you. I will be able to bear an abundance of fruit for your kingdom. I will be able to bring glory to your name. For these reasons and for many more I cannot now think of, and for many more reasons I do not yet know of, I passionately want you to deeply plant your word in me. That is the prayer of my heart. That is the desire of my life. That is very good. You are correct in thinking that I will use my word to do these things in you, for you, and through. My word will make you able to accomplish my purposes and fulfill my plans. Thank you, Lord.
Our conversation is not yet over. I have more to ask you. Go ahead, you have my full attention, I am listening carefully. How will you allow my word to be planted deeply in you? I will meet with you daily in your word. I will set aside a time and place, when and where I will meet with you. I will take your word deep into my heart and mind and life. I will meditate on your word. I will memorize your word. I will study your word. I will pray your word. I will sing your word. I will teach your word. Most of all I will take hold of your word and put into practice as I love and follow and serve you all the days of my life. That will be very good.
Lord, I will set aside a daily time and place, when and where, I will meet with you in your word. Plant your word deeply in me. Use your word to change my heart, transform my mind, and guide my life so that I can bear an abundance of fruit for your kingdom. Amen
