Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 178 – Psalm 119:57-64 – The Direction Of My Life – Growing As Disciples

LORD, you are mine! I promise to obey your words!  With all my heart I want your blessings. Be merciful as you promised.  I pondered the direction of my life, and I turned to follow your laws.  I will hurry, without delay, to obey your commands.  Evil people try to drag me into sin, but I am firmly anchored to your instructions.  I rise at midnight to thank you for your just regulations.  I am a friend to anyone who fears you— anyone who obeys your commandments.  O LORD, your unfailing love fills the earth; teach me your decrees. Psalm 119:57-64 (NLT)

Direction

What is the direction of your life? Where do you want to go? What do you want to do? Those are very good questions. I know what you are thinking. What am I thinking? You are thinking that it is a little bit late to be asking you about the direction of your life. That thought did cross my mind. Why is that? I have already lived most of my life. So what? Does that mean that you are in shut down mode? Does that mean that you do not have many good days before you? Are you ready to retire? Are you going to give up on any future dreaming? What would you think If I said that your very best days are before you? I would be surprised. I would be shocked. I would be awakened. That would be very good. In what ways would you be awakened? I would want to know what you have prepared for me. I would want to follow you to where you will lead me. I would want to go and do all that you will ask of me. I would want to hurry up and obey you, without delay. I would want to have my life firmly anchored by your instructions. So, here I am, I’m listening to you. That is very good.

So, what do you hope for in the very good and best days that are yet to come for you? I want to live a life of intimacy with you. I want to hear you speaking to me. I want to listen attentively to you. I want you to prepare me to be used by you. I want you bless my life so that I can be a blessing to others. I want you to teach me so that I can teach others. I want you to use me to accomplish your purposes and fulfil your plans. I know that I have said this, repeatedly, but I will say it again and again, I want to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. I can think of no better way that I want you to continue to use my life in the very good days before me. This is how I now think when I ponder the future direction of my life. That is very good.

Lord, without your word, my life would go off course. Without your word, I would not know your kindness and mercy and love for me. Without your word, I would drift away from you and be dragged into sin. Use your word to guide the entire direction of my life. Amen
