Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 16 – Joshua 1:8-9 – Prosperous And Successful – Growing As Disciples

Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.  Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:8-9 (NIV)

Meditate

What does that mean? What does what mean? What does it mean to meditate on your word? What do you think it means? I will tell you what it doesn’t mean for sure. What’s that? You don’t want me to empty my mind. You don’t want my mind to go blank. That’s true. You want me to carefully think about your word. You want me to take your word deeply into my heart and mind and life. You want your word to dwell in me richly. You want me to hide your word in my heart. That’s right. What will my word do in you when you meditate on it? Your word will change my heart. Your word will transform my mind. Your word will guide my life. Your word will form and shape the thoughts of my mind, the words of my mouth and the deeds of my life. Your word will help me to come to know and to love and to follow and serve you all the days of my life. Your Holy Spirit will use your word like a sword to fight in me, with me, for me and through me. Your word will make me able to resist temptation and stand against evil. Your word will strengthen and encourage me. Your word will make me able to courageously move forward with you to wherever you lead me, to do whatever you ask of me. Your word will help me to live a life that is good and right and pleasing to you. Your word will help me to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. Yes, my word will do all these things in you, with you, for you and through you.

When will you meditate on my word? How will you meditate on my word? I will meditate on your word day and night. I will read your word. I will study your word. I will memorize your word. I will pray your word. I will proclaim your word. I will teach your word. I will even sing your word. Your word will always be before me. Most importantly of all, I will put your word into practice. I will allow your word to be the sure and solid foundation of my life. That will be very good. Keep my word in your heart, and on your mind, and coming out of your mouth and you will live a life that I can and will surely bless. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, thank you for your word. It is my delight to meditate on your word day and night. Use your word to change my heart, transform my mind, and guide my life. Help me to be careful to do everything that you ask of me. I want to live a life that is pleasing to you. Amen

Strong And Courageous

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Becoming Like Christ - Day 86 - Joshua 1:7-9 - Strong And Courageous - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Becoming Like Christ – Day 86 – Joshua 1:7-9 – Strong And Courageous – Growing As Disciples

Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:7-9 (NIV)

Strong And Courageous

That is what I want. What do you want? I want to be strong and courageous. I want to stay on course. I want to keep on moving forward with you. I don’t want to turn to the right or the left. I don’t want to lag behind you. I don’t want to run ahead of you. I want to go where you guide me. I want to do what you ask of me, with the power and strength and courage that you will give to me. Those are very good desires.

How will I make you strong and courageous? How will I keep you on course? How will I keep you moving forward with me? You will use your word to accomplish all of these things in and through me. That is correct. What role will you have in allowing my word to work in and through you? I will need to take your word into my heart and mind and life. I will need to meditate on your word day and night. I must keep your word every before me. How will you keep my word every before you? I will read your word. I will study your word. I will meditate on and memorize your word. I will pray your word. I will speak your word. How often will you do these things with my word? There is not a day that I will not need to let your word dwell in me richly in these ways. So, I will set apart a special time and place every day to meet with you in your word. Our special time together will just be the start of my living each day moment by moment in an intimate relationship with you. My heart and mind and life will be attuned to you. I will attentively listen to you as you speak into my life. That will be very good. Then you will be strong and courageous. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, I will follow and obey your word. I will meditate on your word day and night. Your word will be on my heart and in my mouth. I will put your word into practice. Use your word to keep me on course. Use your word to help me to be strong and courageous. Amen

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Be – Joshua 1:7-9 – Be Careful To Obey – Growing As Disciples

Day And Night

Do you want to be strong and courageous? Do you want to be successful? Do you want your life to prosper? Do you want to be able to know my will? Do you want to be able to walk in my ways? Do you want to be protected so that you will not be overcome with fear and discouragement? Do you want to fulfill my purposes and accomplish my plans? Do you want to be able to go and do all that I ask of you? Yes Lord, I want all these things. That is very good. I want these things for you in abundance.

How can I have all these things? How can I be sure that these things will come to pass in my life? That is a very good question. Your question has a very simple answer. The answer to your question is so simple you may not receive it. The answer to your question is so simple you may not believe it. The answer to your question is so simple that you may pass right over it and never put it into practice. What is the simple answer to my question?

What do I need to hear and put into practice? Meditate on my word day and night. That is the answer to your question. Let my word dwell in you richly. Let my word be on your mind. Let my word be in your heart. My word will make you strong and courageous. My word will give you success and make you prosper. My word will make you able to know my will and walk in my ways. My word will protect you from fear and discouragement. My word will make you able to fulfill my purposes and accomplish my plans. My word will make you able to go and do all that I ask of you. Meditate on my word day and night. Will you do that? Yes Lord, I will. Then you will receive all that I want to give to you.

Lord, I will meditate on your word day and night. Your word will constantly be on my mind and in my heart. Guard and guide my life by your word. Help me to know and do your will. Help me to be strong and courageous as I follow and obey you throughout my life. Amen
