Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Knowing God – 1 Chronicles 16:8-12 – Tell Everyone – Growing As Disciples

Give thanks to the LORD and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done. Sing to him; yes, sing his praises. Tell everyone about his wonderful deeds. Exult in his holy name; rejoice, you who worship the LORD. Search for the LORD and for his strength; continually seek him. Remember the wonders he has performed, his miracles, and the rulings he has given, 1 Chronicles 16:8-12 (NLT)

Remember

Lets talk about the word remember. What would you like to say to me about remembering? I would like to tell you to not forget. Why is that? You tell me. It has been the history of your people to forget all that you have done for them. It has been my history to forget all that you have done for me. Why do you say that? It’s true. How do you know it is true that you have often forgotten what I have done for you? I think you remind me of what I have forgotten. How do I remind you? When I have been filled with fear and facing a giant obstacle you have reminded me that you are with me to help me. How do I do that? You remind me that you have been with me through all the fear filled times in my life when I have faced giant obstacles. You have always been with me. I have always been able to hold on to you as you have always held on to me. How else have I reminded you of the great things I have done for you? When I have been battered and bruised and broken by life you have always answered my cry and my prayer. Now, I can’t face a trial in life without remembering that you have always come to comfort, heal and strengthen me. Can you think of one more way that you I have reminded you of the great things that I have done for you? When I am feeling a little lost and without hope in life you have reminded me how you have saved me and set me on the path of knowing, loving, following and serving you. You have reminded me that this life is temporary. My future is forever in heaven with you. Yes, it is. Holding onto these thoughts has filled me with joy and thanksgiving. Lets talk a little bit more about that.

I want you to take a more active in role in remembering all that I have done for you. What do you have in mind? You tell me. What can you do to remind yourself of all that I have done for you? That’s a good question. I could keep a record and write down what you have done for me. That would be a good start. What else? I could make it my pattern and practice to spend time in praise and worship to give you thanks for all that you have done for me. That would be excellent. What else? I could start telling others about all that you have done for me. That would be fantastic. What do you think will happen to you as you do all of these things? As I remember to give thanks to you and tell others all that you have done for me, my life will be filled with joy. I will be encouraged and strengthened as I declare your kindness, mercy and love. I will become bold witness for you as I declare your goodness. Yes, you will.

Lord, I am filled with thanksgiving as I remember the great things you have done for me. You have all my praise and worship. My heart is filled with joy as I tell others who you are and all that you have done. You have strengthened me to keep seeking you. Amen

Call Upon His Name

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 281 - Psalm 105-1-5 - Call Upon His Name - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 281 – Psalm 105-1-5 – Call Upon His Name – Growing As Disciples

Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples!  Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works!  Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice!  Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually!  Remember the wondrous works that he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he uttered, Psalm 105:1-5 (ESV)

Call Upon Me

Will you call on me? How often will you call on me? Why will you call on me? What will you say to me as you call on me? What will be in your heart and on your mind? Yes, I will call on you. It is my hope and desire and plan to call on you continually throughout my day. Why is that? I want my heart and mind and life to be focused on you. I want to live in an intimate relationship with you. How would living in an intimate relationship with you be possible if we hardly ever talked? You have a very good point on which you and I are in complete agreement. So, what will you say to me? Nothing will be off limits. I will pour my heart out to you. I will ask you for what I want and need. I will give thanks and praise to you for kindness and mercy and love toward me. I will remember the wondrous things you have done for me. I will ask for your presence, and power, and strength to be with me so I will be able to go and do what you ask of me. What am I likely to ask of you? You will certainly ask me to tell others about you. You want others to come to know and love and follow and serve you. You want others to be able to turn away from their sin so that they can receive your forgiveness and cleansing. You want a multitude to be rescued from a life without you both in the here and now and forever. You want others to receive the gift of salvation and life forever in heaven that you have secured for them. You want others to come to live in an ongoing intimate relationship with you. Yes, I want all these things to be true. Yes, I will ask you to allow my life to be lived out in and through you. Yes, I will work powerfully in and through you. Yes, you will be my witness in the world, as you tell others about me. Yes, you will shine brightly for me as you bear fruit for my kingdom and bring glory to my name. All of this will be possible as you continually call upon me throughout your day. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, I will call upon your name. I will remember all your wondrous works. I will be filled with joy as I give thanks and praise to you for your kindness. I will proclaim your goodness far and wide. I will be filled with strength as I continually seek your presence. Amen
