Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 206 – Hebrews 13:20-21 – Equip You – Growing As Disciples

May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. Hebrews 13:20-21 (NIV)

Doing Your Will

I will equip you. I will give you every good thing you need to do my will. I will work in you so you can do what is pleasing to me. You will bear fruit for my kingdom and glory. You will bring praise to my name. Do you know why this is possible? It is your will. Yes, it is my will, but say more. Your love has saved me. You sent your Son into the world to redeem my life. He paid for my sins. His blood cleansed me of all my unrighteousness. I have been forgiven. I have been set free from the power of sin over my life. I have been given a new life in and through Him. I can now live in an intimate relationship with you. I can now live my life with and for you. I can do your will and what pleases you. Yes, you can. Is that what you want to do? Yes, it is. Let’s talk more about doing my will and what pleases me. That would be great.

I will give you every good thing so that you can do my will. What do you think about that statement? That is a very powerful promise. Yes, it is. What does it mean to you? You will make your will known to me. That must be true. It is. I would never be able to do your will if I did not know what your will was. No, you would not. How do you think I will reveal my will to you? I know how you will reveal your will to me. You sound very confident. I feel very confident. I think you have made it very clear how you will reveal your will. Go ahead. You will reveal your will to me through your word. As I meet with you in your word, you will reveal your will to me. Yes, I will. You used a very important key word that I want to highlight. What word was that? You used the word “as”. You said “as” you meet with me in my word, I will reveal my will to you. Yes, I did. What will happen if you don’t meet with me in my word? Then I won’t be able to know your will. That’s right. So, I will keep meeting with you in your word so I can know your will. That will be very good. How else will I reveal my will to you? You will reveal your will to me as I meet with you in prayer. Yes, I will. What will happen if you rely on yourself and feel no need to meet with me in prayer? Then I won’t be able to know your will. That’s right. So, I will keep meeting with you in prayer. That will be very good. How else will I reveal my will to you? You will reveal your will to me as I am led by your Spirit. Yes, I will. What will happen to you if listen to all the voices in the world and fail to listen to the voice of my Spirit leading you? Then I won’t be able to know your will.  That’s right. So, I will keep on listening to the voice of your Spirit leading me. That will also be very good. What can you be certain of as you follow and serve me? You will show me your will and give me everything I will need to accomplish your will and do what pleases you. You will allow me to bear fruit for your kingdom and your glory. You will allow me to bring praise to your name  through Jesus Christ who lived and died and rose again for me. Yes, I will. Why is that? This is your will. Yes, it is.

Heavenly Father, I welcome your work in my life. I ask that you will equip me with every good thing so I can do your will and everything pleasing to you. May my life and work bring praise and glory to Jesus Christ now and forever. Amen
