Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 325 – Exodus 3:11-15 – I Will Be With You – Growing As Disciples

But Moses said to God, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”  And God said, “I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.”  Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?”  God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.'”  God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘The LORD, the God of your fathers–the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob–has sent me to you.’ This is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation. Exodus 3:11-15 (NIV)

Who Am I?

I have often asked that question. What question have you often asked? I have often asked, “Who am I?” when you have given me an assignment that is far beyond my gifts, talents, abilities, and resources. Yes, I have heard you ask that question many times and in various ways. Why do you suppose I have often given you assignments that are far beyond your gifts, talents, abilities, and resources? Do I have to answer that question? I would rather not answer that question. Failing to answer that question will not hide from me the fact that you know the answer. Failing to answer that question will not cause me to stop giving you large assignments. Then I will answer your question. I’m listening. You often give me large assignments so I will cry out to you to ask you for help. You give me large assignments so that I will be forced to rely on you. You give me large assignments so I will be drawn close to you. You want me to live in an intimate relationship with you. You give me large assignments so that my faith in you will grow. You give me large assignments so I can bear fruit for your kingdom. You give me large assignments so I will know without a doubt that you have worked in and through me to accomplish your purposes and fulfil your plans. The larger the assignment, the more glory I can bring to your name. The larger the assignment, the more brightly I can shine for you in the darkness of this world. The larger the assignment, the more treasure I can store up in heaven with you. My you have given a very good, long, and detailed answer. Are there any draw backs to my large assignments? Do you have any regrets about receiving large assignments from me? Why would you have any hesitancy in answering my question? You know all things. I cannot hide from you that I do not like being uncomfortable. Being challenged is not my greatest desire. Forgive me. You are forgiven. Would you like me to stop giving you large assignments? Absolutely not! No matter what I may feel, in moments of weakness, I want to receive every assignment you have for me. Work in and through me for your kingdom and glory. Help me to accomplish your purposes and fulfill your plans. Help me to go and do your will. Yes, I will.

Heavenly Father, thank you for giving me assignments that are far beyond my gifts, talents, abilities, and resources. In doing so, you have caused me to cry out to you and ask for your help. In doing so, you have caused my faith to grow as I have relied on you. Amen
