Lamp To Guide My Feet

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 189 - Psalm 119:105- 112 - Lamp To Guide My Feet - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 189 – Psalm 119:105- 112 – Lamp To Guide My Feet – Growing As Disciples

Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.  I’ve promised it once, and I’ll promise it again: I will obey your righteous regulations.  I have suffered much, O LORD; restore my life again as you promised.  LORD, accept my offering of praise, and teach me your regulations.  My life constantly hangs in the balance, but I will not stop obeying your instructions.  The wicked have set their traps for me, but I will not turn from your commandments.  Your laws are my treasure; they are my heart’s delight.  I am determined to keep your decrees to the very end. Psalm 119:105-112 (NLT)

Where Are You Going?

Do you know where you are going? Do you know what steps to take and which steps to avoid? Are you sure of what is the right path for you to follow? Do you know how to keep your life on course? What will keep you together when much of life is falling apart all around you? What will you do, how will you respond, when others and every kind of evil tries to throw you off track? What will keep you in the running? What will help you to run strong and finish well? Without, your word I have no idea where I am going. I have tried to go it alone, by following my own counsel and listening to my own advice. That has not worked well for me. I have taken many missteps. I have made many mistakes.  I have wandered off course. I have gotten entangled in the evil of this world. I have sinned against you. Forgive me. You are forgiven. Keep on answering the questions that I have set before you. Only your word, will keep me on course. Only your word, will keep me together when much of life is falling apart all around me. And these days, that is exactly what is happening. I can’t recall more widespread, world-wide crises, happening all at one time. On top of that, intolerance and hate are at almost unprecedented levels, at least in my life. It would be easy to become discouraged and depressed and defeated. But I am holding on to your word. Your word is encouraging and strengthening me. Your word is lifting me up. So, with a heart filled with joy, that I can’t really comprehend, I will keep on following and obeying you. I will keep on putting your word into practice. Your word will continue to have first place in my life. I will never stop listening to you. Your word will guard and guide me. Your word will show me the steps I should take. Your word will keep me on the path you have laid out for me. I know that you will help me to run strong and finish well. Yes, my word will accomplish all these things for you. Keep on listening to me. Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good.

Lord, thank you that your word is a lamp to my feet and light to my path. Your word has prevented me from stumbling in the darkness of this world. Your word has been light to my path to guide me through life. I will keep on following and obeying your word. Amen

My Constant Guide

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 188 - Psalm 119:97 - 104 - My Constant Guide - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 188 – Psalm 119:97 – 104 – My Constant Guide – Growing As Disciples

Oh, how I love your instructions! I think about them all day long.  Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are my constant guide.  Yes, I have more insight than my teachers, for I am always thinking of your laws.  I am even wiser than my elders, for I have kept your commandments.  I have refused to walk on any evil path, so that I may remain obedient to your word.  I haven’t turned away from your regulations, for you have taught me well.  How sweet your words taste to me; they are sweeter than honey.  Your commandments give me understanding; no wonder I hate every false way of life. Psalm 119:97-104 (NLT)

Your Guide

Do you love my instructions? Do you think about them all day long? Has my word made you wiser than your enemies? Are you allowing my word to be your guide? Has my word given you insight far beyond what you have ben taught by your teachers? Has my word helped you to walk on the path of life, far away from evil? Yes, I love your instructions. Yes, I do think of your word all day long. There is no place I would rather be or nothing I would rather do than meet with you in your word. Your word has given me new thoughts to think. Your word has given me new words to speak. Your word has given me new deeds to do. Your word has formed in me new prayers to pray. Yes, your words taste sweet, they are sweeter than honey to me. Nothing is of more valuable or more desirable to me than your word. Your commands have helped me to stand against temptation. Your word has helped me to turn away from evil of every kind. Your word has made me able to keep on walking on the path of life with you. My heart burns with desire to live my life with and for you. This the work of your word in my heart and mind and life. But that is not all. Your word has given me more insight than I could have ever hoped for from my teachers. Your word has given me even more wisdom than my elders. I will keep on holding onto your word. Your word has given me a new appetite and a distaste for the things of this world. Thank you, that your word has made me to hunger for you. I will keep on following and obeying you, all the days of my life. That will be very good.

Lord, I will keep your word ever before me. I will meditate on your word so that you can teach and train and guard and guide me. Your word will be my constant guide through life. Your word will help me to think and speak and act in ways that are pleasing to you. Amen

True To This Day

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 187 - Psalm 119:89-96 - True To This Day - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 187 – Psalm 119:89-96 – True To This Day – Growing As Disciples

Your eternal word, O LORD, stands firm in heaven.  Your faithfulness extends to every generation, as enduring as the earth you created.  Your regulations remain true to this day, for everything serves your plans.  If your instructions hadn’t sustained me with joy, I would have died in my misery.  I will never forget your commandments, for by them you give me life.  I am yours; rescue me! For I have worked hard at obeying your commandments.  Though the wicked hide along the way to kill me, I will quietly keep my mind on your laws.  Even perfection has its limits, but your commands have no limit. Psalm 119:89-96 (NLT)

Stand Firm

Do you believe that you can stand firm on my word? Is my word a secure foundation on which your life can be built? Have you found my word to be faithful and true? Has not my word, sustained and strengthened you through all the twists and turns of life? Has not my word filled your heart and mind with hope and peace and joy? Where would you be without my word guiding the course of your life? Has not my word guarded, guided and protected you from danger? Is there any limit to what my word can and has done for you? Lord, your word has done all these things in, for and though me. Your word has truly molded and shaped my life. Your word has changed my heart and transformed my mind. Your word has fought in and for me like a sword. Your word has purified my heart and mind and given me a passionate desire to love and follow and serve you with all that is within me. I give all my thanks and praise to you for your word. Your word has been and will continue to be on my heart and in my mind. I will meditate on your word throughout all the moments of my life. I will turn your word into the prayers and songs of my heart. Continue to use your word to help me to fully live the life you have called me to live. Draw me deeper and closer to you, as I meet with you in your word. Set my heart on fire to serve you, as I meet with you in your word, so I will shine like a star in universe for you. Use your word to help me to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. Use your word to me to accomplish your purposes and fulfill your plans. I have been and will continue to do these things for you, as you continue to take my word deep within you. That I will do. That will be very good. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, thank you for your word that is as powerful and relevant today as it has ever been. Your word has sustained me with joy. Your word has sustained and strengthened me through every twist and turn in life. I will keep my heart and mind fully on your word. Amen

How Long Must I Wait?

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 186 - Psalm 119:80-81 - How Long Must I Wait - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 186 – Psalm 119:80-81 – How Long Must I Wait – Growing As Disciples

I am worn out waiting for your rescue, but I have put my hope in your word.  My eyes are straining to see your promises come true. When will you comfort me?  I am shriveled like a wineskin in the smoke, but I have not forgotten to obey your decrees.  How long must I wait? When will you punish those who persecute me?  These arrogant people who hate your instructions have dug deep pits to trap me.  All your commands are trustworthy. Protect me from those who hunt me down without cause.  They almost finished me off, but I refused to abandon your commandments.  In your unfailing love, spare my life; then I can continue to obey your laws. Psalm 119:81-88 (NLT)

Waiting

This is not one of your strong points. What is not one of my strong points? Waiting is not one of your strong points. You’ve noticed? I think everyone who knows you has noticed. It would take no one any amount of detective work to notice your impatience. I’d didn’t realize my impatience was that pronounced and obvious. Now, you do, so today is a little bit of self-discovery for you. I guess so. I’m not happy to hear that I have such an obvious problem with waiting. Let me guess, you would like that problem corrected immediately. Now, that’s funny. Yes, it is.

How can I learn to wait? How can I be patient? How can be trusting? How can I learn to rest in your promises? How can I wait for you to fulfill your promises in my life? How can I rely more fully on you? Those are all very good questions. Do you have any doubt that I will help you to learn how to wait? I have no doubts about that. How do you think I will help you to learn how to wait? Do I have to answer that question? Yes, you do. You will help me to learn how to wait by having me wait. That’s correct, isn’t it? It’s obvious isn’t it? Yes, it is. What will happening to you as you wait? I will draw nearer to you. I will ask for your help. I will pray more passionately and persistently. Will your faith grow stronger as you wait before me in my presence? Will you come to rely on me more fully as you wait for me to act? Or will you become discouraged and attempt to take matters into your own hands? Now, that seems to be the heart of the issue. Will I trust you? Will I rely on you? Will I depend on you rather than on myself? You are making even more self-discoveries today. Yes, I want you to learn to wait patiently as you trust me rather than yourself. That I will do. I will wait for you to act. I will wait for you to fulfill your promises in my life. That will be very good.  Thank you, Lord.

Lord, I will place all my faith in you. I know that you are faithful. I know that your promises are trustworthy. I know that I can rely fully on you. You will help me. You will protect me. You will watch over me, even when I am going through great difficulties. Amen

Your Unfailing Love

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 185 - Psalm 119:73-80 - Your Unfailing Love - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 185 – Psalm 119:73-80 – Your Unfailing Love – Growing As Disciples

You made me; you created me. Now give me the sense to follow your commands.  May all who fear you find in me a cause for joy, for I have put my hope in your word.  I know, O LORD, that your regulations are fair; you disciplined me because I needed it.  Now let your unfailing love comfort me, just as you promised me, your servant.  Surround me with your tender mercies so I may live, for your instructions are my delight.  Bring disgrace upon the arrogant people who lied about me; meanwhile, I will concentrate on your commandments.  Let me be united with all who fear you, with those who know your laws.  May I be blameless in keeping your decrees; then I will never be ashamed. Psalm 119:73-80 NLT

My Love

Do you know that my love for you is never failing? Do you know that my tender mercy for you is never ending? Yes, I know that your love for me will never fail me. Yes, I know that your tender mercy toward me will never end. That’s good. But I know that you have much more to say on this subject. Yes, I do. What I know about your never-failing love and never-ending mercy is not where I want it to be. Where is my never-failing love and never-ending mercy? I am more than a little sad to say that much of this knowledge is in my head. In my mind, I know without a doubt that you love and care for me. In my mind, I know that your tender mercy will never end. You will always forgive me. You will never forsake me. You will always help me to keep me moving forward with you. But you are not satisfied with this knowledge? No, I am not, not for a second. I want to know your love for me deep within my heart. I want to be overwhelmed by love. I want to be knocked over by your love. I want to be bowed down by your love. I want to be in constant and ongoing awe, knowing that you love and care for me. I want to live each moment of every day with the conscious awareness of your tender mercies toward me. Let me be clear, my dissatisfaction is with me, not with you. What are you going to do with your dissatisfaction? I am going to keep on drawing near to you. I am going to keep on seeking you with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. What do you think I will do for you? I know that you will draw near to me as I draw near to you. I know that when I seek you with all that is within me, I will find you. I know that as I continue to draw near to you and seek you, my love for you will move more fully from my head into my heart. I know that you will give me what I am asking for. I know that you will help me to know and love you even more, as I continue draw near to you and seek you. Yes, I will answer this prayer and desire of your heart as you draw near to me and seek me with all that is within you. Thank you. Lord.

Heavenly Father. I know your love for me is unfailing. I know your tender mercy toward me never ends. Help me to comprehend these two truths with all that is within me. Help me to live more fully in your love. I love you with all heart, mind, soul and strength. Amen

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 184 – Psalm 119:65-72 – I Used To Wander Off – Growing As Disciples

You have done many good things for me, LORD, just as you promised.  I believe in your commands; now teach me good judgment and knowledge.  I used to wander off until you disciplined me; but now I closely follow your word.  You are good and do only good; teach me your decrees.  Arrogant people smear me with lies, but in truth I obey your commandments with all my heart.  Their hearts are dull and stupid, but I delight in your instructions.  My suffering was good for me, for it taught me to pay attention to your decrees.  Your instructions are more valuable to me than millions in gold and silver. Psalm 119:65-72 (NLT)

On Course

What will keep you on course? What will prevent you from wandering away from me? What will keep you from drifting along in your faith?  What will prevent your heart from becoming become dull and stupid? What will give you good judgement and sound knowledge? What will strengthen you against any evil that will come against you? What will help you to come to know of my kindness and mercy and love? How will you be able to taste of my goodness? What will do all these things for you? You have asked me many questions, all of which have the same answer. Let me hear your answer. It is your word that will show me all the good things you have done for me. It is your word that will help me to come to know and love and follow and serve you. Nothing is more valuable to me than your word. From your word, I will hear and receive your very good and great promises. It is your word that will keep my faith in you vibrant and alive. Your word will guard and guide me. Your word will protect me from any evil that this world will try to throw at me. No twist or turn or up or down in life will divert me. Your word will keep me on course. I will not wander away from you, as I continue to meet with you in your word. Never will my heart become dull and stupid as I hear and receive all you have to say to me from your word. I will closely follow your word. I will listen very carefully to you. I will follow and obey your word with all that is within. My heart and mind ad life will be focused on you and your word. I will live my entire life according to your word. All the trials of life will only serve to draw me closer to you as I hold on to you and your promises. Here I am now, ready to hear and obey your word. That is very good. You have answered my questions well. You will receive from my word all that I have for you. Thank you, Lord, for your goodness to me.

Lord, there is no doubt about it, I used to wander off. I would lose focus. I would drift away. My heart would become dull and stupid. I would become attracted to the things of this world. Help me now to closely follow your word so I can stay on course with you. Amen

How I Spend My Life

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 183 - Psalm 119:49-56 - How I Spend My Life - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 183 – Psalm 119:49-56 – How I Spend My Life – Growing As Disciples

Remember your promise to me; it is my only hope.  Your promise revives me; it comforts me in all my troubles.  The proud hold me in utter contempt, but I do not turn away from your instructions.  I meditate on your age-old regulations; O LORD, they comfort me.  I become furious with the wicked, because they reject your instructions.  Your decrees have been the theme of my songs wherever I have lived.  I reflect at night on who you are, O LORD; therefore, I obey your instructions.  This is how I spend my life: obeying your commandments. Psalm 119:49-56 (NLT)

Spend

That is a very important word. What is a very important word? The word spend is a very important word. What makes that word so important? You have a choice of how you will spend your life. You only have one life to live. There are no “do overs.” How you chose to spend your life is very important. One day you will have the opportunity, with me, to look back over your entire life. Together, we will see if you did spend your life on what was worthwhile. That seems like an overwhelming thought to me. How can I possibly have any hope of knowing now that I am spending my life well? At many times and in many ways, I know that I have lived unwisely. How can there be any hope for me? Notice, I said that you will not receive any do overs. You will not get a second life to live.  I did not say that you will not receive any second chances. Not only will you receive second chances, you will receive many opportunities to begin again with Me. You have and will continue to make mistakes, take missteps and sin. You can and have asked for and received my forgiveness and cleansing. You have and will continue to begin again and keep on moving forward with me. You have an abundance of hope. You have a never-ending source of wisdom available to you. Tell me about my abundance of hope and never-ending source of wisdom. You have Me. You have my word. Hope in the promises of my word. Hope in Me. I will lead and guide you through life. My word will revive you. My word will comfort you in every trouble. My word will instruct you. Spend your life following and obeying my word. Make that the priority of your life. That I will do, with all that is within me. That will be very good. Then your life will be well spent. Then you will never have any regrets. Then one day looking over your life with me will be a cause of great rejoicing. I look forward to that day. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, thank you for your word. The promises of your word sustain me. I find hope, joy and peace in your promises. Your word gives me comfort and encouragement. I will spend my life obeying your word. Help me to never turn away from your instructions. Amen

Walk In Freedom

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 182 - Psalm 119:41-48 - Walk In Freedom - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 182 – Psalm 119:41-48 – Walk In Freedom – Growing As Disciples

LORD, give me your unfailing love, the salvation that you promised me.  Then I can answer those who taunt me, for I trust in your word.  Do not snatch your word of truth from me, for your regulations are my only hope.  I will keep on obeying your instructions forever and ever.  I will walk in freedom, for I have devoted myself to your commandments.  I will speak to kings about your laws, and I will not be ashamed.  How I delight in your commands! How I love them!  I honor and love your commands. I meditate on your decrees. Psalm 119:41-48 (NLT)

Walk In Freedom

Do you want to walk in freedom that I have secured for you? Do you want to live the life of salvation that I have given to you? Yes, I want to walk in freedom. Yes, I want to live the life of salvation you have given to me. What must I do If I want to walk and freedom and live the life of salvation you have given to me? Continue to do what you have done and what you have been doing. What have I done? What have I been doing? I know that you know the answers to both those questions. Usually, I will not answer questions when you already know the answers to them. But in this case, I will make an exception. I know that you want to hear what I have to say to you. My words to you will encourage you. My words will lift you up. It will be my delight to life you up and encourage you. Are you ready? Yes, I am ready. Speak to me, I am listening. You have my full attention. That’s good. On the day that you asked me to be your Savior and Lord you turned your life and all its management over to me. You left your old life behind and began to live the completely new life that I gave you to live. Have you done this perfectly? Certainly not. Have you taken missteps, made mistakes and sinned? Certainly yes. But you have asked for and received my forgiveness and cleansing. You have kept on moving forward with me over all these many years. How do my words sound so far? Very encouraging and uplifting. Keep on moving forward with me. Yes, I will. That is very good. There is something else that you have been doing and must continue to do. What’s that? You have been allowing my word to dwell in you richly. You have been allowing my word to change your heart, transform your mind, and guide your life. You have been allowing my word to set up boundaries to guard and protect your life. You have allowed my word to make it possible for you to live in the freedom that I have secured for you. Keep on taking my word into your heart and mind and life as you live the life of salvation, I have given to you. Yes, I will! That will be very good.

Lord, thank you for the salvation I have in you. You have helped me to leave my old life behind. You have given me a new life to live. Use your word to change my heart and transform my mind. Guard my life by your word so that I can walk in freedom with you. Amen

Put Them Into Practice

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 181 - Psalm 119:33-40 - Put Them Into Practice - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 181 – Psalm 119:33-40 – Put Them Into Practice – Growing As Disciples

Teach me your decrees, O LORD; I will keep them to the end.  Give me understanding and I will obey your instructions; I will put them into practice with all my heart.  Make me walk along the path of your commands, for that is where my happiness is found. Give me an eagerness for your laws rather than a love for money!  Turn my eyes from worthless things, and give me life through your word.  Reassure me of your promise, made to those who fear you.  Help me abandon my shameful ways; for your regulations are good.  I long to obey your commandments! Renew my life with your goodness. Psalm 119:33-40 (NLT)

Worthless Things

Would you like me to help you turn your eyes away from worthless things? Would you like to make sure that you do not spend your life on what is of no value? Would you like to be able to think and speak and act according to my purposes and plans for you? Would you like to completely leave behind your old life and the shameful ways in which you once lived? Would you like to move forward with me? Would you like to live a life that is good and right and true and pleasing to me? Yes, I would like all these things to be true of my life. This is how I want to use my life. This is how I will spend my life. I do not want to one day find out that I pursued what was worthless and would have no lasting and eternal value. I want to be able to look back over my life and agree with you that I lived a life that was well spent. You have very good desires within you. Yes, and they could have only come from you. That is correct.

So, how will you help me to turn my eyes away from worthless things? How will you help me to make sure that my life has been well spent? There should be no mystery about that. I will counsel you. I will watch over you. I will teach and train you. I will help you to know and do my will. I will guide you through life. How will you do all these things for me? Have I not given you my word? Do you not hear me speaking to you? Have I not given my instruction? Do you not have understanding? Yes, you have given all of this to me. I hear you speaking to me. I hear you teaching and training me. I see you guarding and guiding me. You have given me your understanding. That’s good. Keep on putting my word into practice. Keep on going and doing what my word tells you to do. Keep on living your life according to my word, then you will have no worries about how you will spend your life. You will spend your life loving and following and serving me. Yes, I will. That will be very good. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, I am eager for your word. Teach me your word. Help me to think and speak and act correctly. Use your word to guide the course of my life as I put it into practice. Use your word to help me to turn away from the love of money and all other worthless things. Amen

Revive Me

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 180 - Psalm 119:25-32 - Revive Me - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 180 – Psalm 119:25-32 – Revive Me – Growing As Disciples

I lie in the dust; revive me by your word.  I told you my plans, and you answered. Now teach me your decrees.  Help me understand the meaning of your commandments, and I will meditate on your wonderful deeds.  I weep with sorrow; encourage me by your word.  Keep me from lying to myself; give me the privilege of knowing your instructions. I have chosen to be faithful; I have determined to live by your regulations.  I cling to your laws. LORD, don’t let me be put to shame!  I will pursue your commands, for you expand my understanding. Psalm 119:25-32 (NLT)

Perspective

I can see that you are discouraged. I notice that you are depressed. It is that obvious? Yes, it is that obvious. It is written all over your face. Not, that I would need to see it written on your face to see and take notice of your thoughts and feelings. I know your thoughts and feelings before you think and feel them. I have no doubt about that. It is time to change your perspective. It is time for you to think new and different thoughts. How can I think new and different thoughts? That is a good question. Meditate on my word. Take my word deep into your heart and mind. Take a firm hold of my word. My word will change your perspective. How will your word change my perspective? My word will keep the truth ever before you. My word will prevent you from thinking or speaking or acting on what is untrue. My word will remind you that I love and care for you. My word will help you to know that I am with you to help you. You are not all alone. You have not been forsaken. Keep in mind that in this life you are in a battle. The battle is over your heart and mind. The devil and all His evil would like to use what is untrue to steal and kill and destroy the life I have for you to live. Don’t let him. Allow my word to guard your heart and protect your mind. Let my word revive and refresh and restore your soul. Let my word change your perspective and replace your sorrow with joy. That I will do. I will meditate on your word. I will take your word deep within my heart and mind. I will believe what is true. I will live the joy filled life that you have called me to live. That is very good. Right now, I know that you are reviving and refreshing and restoring my soul. Yes, I am. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, thank you for your word. Revive my soul with your word. Help me to better understand your word. Use your word to change my outlook so I will have joy instead of sorrow. Guard my mind with your word so I will not think or speak or act on what is untrue. Amen
