Never Will I Leave You

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 76 - Hebrews 13:5-6 - Never Will I Leave You - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 76 – Hebrews 13:5-6 – Never Will I Leave You – Growing As Disciples

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”  So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?”      Hebrews 13:5-6 (NIV)

Content

Are you content with what you have? Are you thankful for what you have been given? Do you believe that I will help you? Do you know that I will never leave you? Are you sure that I will never forsake you? You have asked me several questions. They seem unrelated. But I know that they are not. Tell me how my questions are related. Sometimes, I have not been content with what I have. I have not been satisfied with what I have been given. In fact, it could be said, at points in my life, that I have been on a continual lust for more. It could have been asked, “How much is enough?” The answer has often been, “Just a little bit more.” That is like a treadmill that never ends. That road leads to nowhere. There is no hope and peace and joy or contentment on that road. No, there is not. But in you there is hope and joy and peace and contentment. I don’t need to continually desire more. I don’t need to try to find peace and hope and joy and contentment in things. Things will never supply me with what I really need. Things will never truly satisfy my soul. Beyond that, I am also sure that my quest for more was deeply rooted in my being worried that I might not have enough. Would I run out? Would I go without? So, I told myself that I’d better make sure that I had enough and that I needed to be very diligent in providing for my needs. But am I really the provider of my needs? That is a very good question. The answer is, “No, I am not the provider of my needs. You are the provider of my needs. I can have faith and hope and trust in you. You will never leave me. You will never forsake me. You will take care of me. You will watch over me. You have and will continue to bless my life. Can there be any greater contentment? No, there is no greater. I have found peace and joy and hope and contentment in you. You will supply my needs. You will satisfy my hunger and thirst that is in my soul. It is you I have been looking for all along. Thank you, Lord, for being all I need. Thank you, Lord, for supplying all I need. I will rely on you completely. That will be very good.

Lord, isn’t that the absolute truth? Isn’t that the final and ultimate reality? You are with me. You will help me. You will watch over me. You will provide for all my needs. Never will you ever leave me. Never will you ever forsake me. I can be fully content in you. Amen

Key Question… How has knowing that the Lord will never leave or forsake you helped you to be content?

Living It Out… Be content with what you have because the Lord will never leave or forsake you.

Wise And Discerning Heart

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 75 - 1 Kings 3:10-12 - Wise And Discerning Heart - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 75 – 1 Kings 3:10-12 – Wise And Discerning Heart – Growing As Disciples

The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this.  So God said to him, “Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be.  1 Kings 3:10-12 (NIV)

Act Justly

What do you want from me? What do you want to ask of me? I want your wisdom. I want your discernment. I want to be able to know and do your will. I want to go wherever you guide me. I want to do whatever you ask of me. I don’t want to be distracted. I don’t want to be diverted. I want to be powerfully used by you. I need your help. Those are all very good desires. How do you suppose that I will use you? Well, I know how you have made me. I would guess that you will use me how you have made me. That is an interesting thought. How have I made you? You have made me with the desire to think and speak and act justly. You have placed a burning passion in me to bring justice into unjust situations. I will tell you one thing. What’s that? Nothing gets me hotter and makes me angrier than seeing injustice in the world around me. That is in my make-up. That is how you created me. Righting wrongs is what motivates me. Do you think I created you to be angry? No, not at all. The anger within me causes me to act. The anger within me does not cause me to be angry. Does that make sense? Yes, it makes sense. So, the anger in you, at injustice in the world, will not be noticed as unrighteous anger. The anger in you, at injustice in the world, will be noticed as righteous action. You will do something about injustices you see in the world. That is correct. But there is a problem. What’s the problem? I need your wisdom so I will know how to act justly. I need the righteous anger that is in me to be under your control. I need the righteous anger, that is in me, to be under your direction. I need the righteous anger, that is in me, to bring about your justice in an unjust world. I need the righteous anger, that is in me, to be an expression of your love that brings your hope and healing and reconciliation into the world. That is my prayer. That is my hope. That is my desire. This is how you have made me. This is what I am asking of you. I will hear and answer your prayer. I will help you to act justly in an unjust world. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, I need your wisdom and discernment. I need your help. How can you use me to bring about justice in an unjust world? Help me to think and speak and act wisely. Give me a wise and discerning heart. Use me for your purposes to accomplish your plans. Amen

Key Question… Why can you be sure that the Lord will give you wisdom when you ask Him for it?

Living It Out… Allow the Lord to use you to bring about justice in an unjust world.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that the Lord will use you to bring about justice in an unjust world.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how the Lord has used you to bring about justice in an unjust world.

Prayer To Bless Others… May you allow the Lord to give you a wise and discerning heart so you can serve Him well.

Earnestly Seek Him

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 74 - Hebrews 11:6 - Earnestly Seek Him - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 74 – Hebrews 11:6 – Earnestly Seek Him – Growing As Disciples

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:6 (NIV)

Rewards

In everything I think, say and do I want to please you. Sometimes I have a hard time believing that it would be possible for me to please you. Why is that? You are perfect. You are Holy. I am imperfect. I am a sinner. If that were completely true then you are right, it would be impossible for you to please me. What isn’t completely true about what I said? You tell me. I am positive that you are perfect and holy. Yes, I am, that is not where you made a mistake. I also said that I am imperfect and I am also a sinner. Yes you did, what is wrong about that statement? Well, I have been forgiven and cleansed of all my unrighteousness. Yes, that’s right and what else? I have been made holy and perfect in your Son, Jesus Christ. His righteousness is now my righteousness. He has made me pure and holy in your sight. Yes, that is what He has done for you. So, now I can do what pleases you, is that correct? Yes, that is correct. Do you have faith to believe this? Yes, I believe that I can now do what pleases you. Yes, you can please me. Yes you do please me.

What do you think pleases me? I’m not positive. What must you do if you want to please me? Now, that I do know. If I want to please you I know that I must earnestly seek you. What does it mean to earnestly seek me?  I earnestly seek you with all my heart and mind and soul. Everything that is within me desires to seek you. The focus of all my attention is on seeking you. There is nothing I would rather do than seek you. There is no place that I would rather be than in your presence. Why is it that you are so earnest in your desire to seek me? I love you with all my heart and mind and soul. You have made me. You have saved me. You have forgiven me. You are molding and shaping me. You have made me to be your child. You are my Father. Yes, I am and all that is within me loves you. You have learned to love me because I have first loved you. Yes, of that I am positive.

What will happen to you as you earnestly seek me? I will know you. I will know your will and your ways. I will know for sure what you are calling me to do for you. You will help me to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. I will go where you guide me and do what you ask of me. Then I will know and do what is pleasing to you. Yes, you will.

What will you receive from me as you earnestly seek me and do what pleases me? You will reward me. I’m not sure what your rewards will look like. It is rewarding enough to be called your child. It is rewarding enough to be used by you. It is rewarding enough to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. It is rewarding enough to know that one day I will come to live forever in heaven with you. Yes, you will. Then you will be fully rewarded for earnestly seeking me.

Father, I do believe in and love you with all my heart and mind and soul. I am earnestly seeking you with all that is within me. It is my desire to live the life Christ has secured for me with and for you. Thank you for rewarding me. Amen

Key Question… How are you earnestly seeking God and the life Jesus Christ has secured for you on a daily basis?

Living It Out… Earnestly seek God with all your heart, mind and soul because you believe in Him and know He will reward you.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that God will reward you because you believe in, and are earnestly seeking, Him.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how you are earnestly seeking God with all your heart, mind and soul.

Prayer To Bless Others… May you come to God because you believe that He exists and will reward you as you earnestly seek Him.

God Is For Us

Discipleship Study - Promises - Day 73 -Romans 8:31-32 - God Is For Us - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Study – Promises – Day 73 -Romans 8:31-32 – God Is For Us – Growing As Disciples

What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all–how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?  Romans 8:31-32 (NIV)

Say What?

What is your response? What would you like to say about all that I have graciously given to you? What would you like to say about all that I have done for you? What I want to say can in no way express how thankful I am for all that you have given to me. Any words that I would say would be completely inadequate in response to all that you have done for me. I’m really left speechless rather being full of words. I feel more drawn to sit silently and thankfully in your presence. This feels like one of those times that I need your Holy Spirit to pray for me because I am without words to express how profoundly thankful that I am to you.

The idea that you are “for me” overwhelms me. Somehow, I haven’t fully taken that thought in. I want to rest in that thought and savor it and take it in with you. You being so “for me” is the only explanation for what you have given to me and what you have done for me. What have I given you? What have I done for you? Lets talk about that. You have made it possible for my sins to be forgiven. You have cleansed me of all my unrighteousness. I am clean in your sight. I no longer need to live under condemnation. You have set me free from the power of sin over my life. I no longer live and walk in bondage to sin. I can now live in a close and intimate relationship with you. I can talk to you. I can hear your voice speaking to me. I love you with all my heart and soul and mind. You are my Father and I am your child. Yes, you are. As your child I feel comfortable telling you that my words cannot fully express all the love and gratitude I have for you. How could I ever adequately express all my thanks to you? What you have done for me extends far beyond now into all eternity. Now, I know in part what you have done for me. Someday, I will know in full all that you have given to me. Yes, you will. This is when I will fully realize that you have given me all things, isn’t it? Yes, it is.

I could say more about what you have given me and what you have done for me. Go ahead. I’m thankful that your Holy Spirit is living inside of me. Why is that? Your Holy Spirit is changing my heart and transforming my mind. He is helping me to think your thoughts. He is giving me the desire to do your will. He is making me to be like your Son Jesus Christ. There is nothing that I want more in this world than to live in ways that please you. These thoughts and feelings I have are the work of your Holy Spirit in me. Yes, He is doing all of this for you. Your Holy Spirit is also like a deposit guaranteeing that I have a future and an inheritance in heaven with you. That’s right. You can hold on to that through whatever storm comes your way in life. Yes, I can and yes I do and yes I will. I know that because you are for me nothing will be able to stand against me. You are on my side. You will bring me through everything that life brings my way. Then one day very soon I will come to live with you forever. Yes, you will.

If my words are inadequate in expressing my thanks, which they are, I’m hoping that an open invitation for you to use my life according to your purposes and plans will say some of the thanks that my words cannot. I’m here. I’m all yours. Use me for your kingdom and your glory. Yes, I will.

Father, thank you for being for me. You have not held back on giving me good things. You have forgiven and freed me from sin. You have adopted me as your child. You are helping me to think your thoughts and making me to be like your son. I am so grateful. Amen

Key Question… What will you say in response to knowing that God is for you and will give you all things?

Living It Out… Give thanks to God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit for all the good things you have been given.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that God is for you and has given you so many very good things.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group when you have been most aware of the fact that God is for you.

Prayer To Bless Others… May you give thanks to God for all the very good things that you have been given.

Such A Time As This

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 72 - Such A Time As This - Can These Bones Live? - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 72 – Such A Time As This – Can These Bones Live? – Growing As Disciples

When Esther’s words were reported to Mordecai, he sent back this answer: “Do not think that because you are in the king’s house you alone of all the Jews will escape.  For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?” Esther 4:12-14 (NIV)

Use Me

I have brought you to this place. I have put you in this position. I have you right where I want you. I’m not sure that I am understanding what you are saying to me. What are you saying to me? I want to use you right now. I want to use you right where you are. This is your time. This is the place. This is the time and place for what? This is the time and place for you to be a witness for me in the world. This is your time to be of service to me. Don’t say that you are not ready. Don’t think that you are not adequately prepared. You could always say that. You could always think that. It is a trick and a trap. With that line of thinking you will never be ready and fully prepared. Wouldn’t that be a tragedy? What’s that? Wouldn’t it be a tragedy if you never took a step of faith to go and do what I asked of you? Wouldn’t it be a disaster if you never allowed me to use you because you thought you were not ready and fully prepared. I could say this to you, you are like a baby eaglet that I want to kick out of the comfort of the nest. You will never be called an eagle until you learn to soar with me. Is that a metaphor that you can understand? Yes, I understand. Do you want to soar with me? Do you want to go and do what I ask of you? Do you want to be of service to me? Do you want to be a witness for me in the world? Do you want to bear fruit for my kingdom? Do you want to bring glory to my name? Imagine this, one day from heaven we will look back over your life. Would you like to hear me say, “Well done good and faithful servant?” Would you like to know that you went and did what I asked of you? That is the desire of my heart. Yes Lord, use me right now, right where I am. Yes, I will. That will be very good. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, I know that you have brought me to this place. You have put me in this position. I know that you want both the conduct of my life and the words of my mouth to be a bold witness for you. Help me to take a step of faith you. I am at your service. Use me now. Amen

Key Question… Where has the Lord uniquely placed you so that you can be of service to Him?

Living It Out… Allow the Lord to use you as His witness right where you are in your circle of influence.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that the Lord has uniquely placed you where you are so that you can be of service to Him.

Whoever Believes

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 65 - John 3:16-18 Whoever Believes - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 65 – John 3:16-18 Whoever Believes – Growing As Disciples

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.  Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. John 3:16-18 (NIV)

Do You Believe?

It might be easy to believe that I love the world. But do you believe that I love you? Do you know that I sent my one and only Son into the world to live and die for you? He was ridiculed and rejected. He ultimately died on the cross as payment for your sins. He made it so you could be forgiven of your sins and cleansed of all your unrighteousness. Without His sacrifice, you stood condemned before me. Without His salvation, you would have lived a life forever without me. But I was unwilling to let that happen to you. It was always my plan that you would receive my Son as your Savior and Lord. It was always my hope that you would come to know and love and follow and serve me. It was always my desire that you would live and walk in an intimate relationship with me. What do you think of my plan and hope and desire for you? Your plan and hope and desire for me has become the desire of my heart. I have no doubt that you love me. Yes, it is my delight to follow Christ as my Savior and Lord. Now because you love me, it has become my burning passion and desire to love and follow and serve you. I am thankful and grateful for the life of salvation you have given me to live. I am constantly looking for ways to do what is pleasing to you. Why is that? I want to do what is pleasing to you because I love you. You are my Father. I am your child. You have adopted me into your family. You have made me your own. Yes, you are mine. What do you now look forward to as you love and follow and serve me? I look forward to where you will lead me. I look forward to what you will give me to do for you. I look forward to living the life of salvation that is unfolding before me now and forever. I look forward to bearing fruit for your kingdom and bringing glory to your name. Most of all, I look forward to coming to live forever in heaven with you. That will be a very great and glorious day. Yes, it will be.

Heavenly Father, thank you for sending your one and only Son into the world to die on the cross as payment for my sins. Thank you for the gift of salvation I have received through Him. He is my Savior and Lord. It is now my delight to love, follow and serve you. Amen

Key Question… How have you come to believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord?

Living It Out… Keep on living the life of salvation you have received as a gift by believing in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that believing in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord has secured you a place forever in heaven with Him.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how you came to believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord.

Prayer To Bless Others… May you believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord so you will have eternal life in Him.

Remains In Me

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 70 - John 15:5-8 - Remains In Me - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 70 – John 15:5-8 – Remains In Me – Growing As Disciples

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.  If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.  If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.  This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. John 15:5-8 (NIV)

Vitally Connected

I am like a vine. You are like a branch. It is your role to be vitally connected to me. How does that sound to you? Is my illustration clear enough to you? Yes, I understand exactly what you are saying to me. What am I saying to you? I am meant to live in an intimate relationship with you. How will you live in an intimate relationship with me? I will draw near to you. I will quiet myself before you. I will listen to all that you have to say to me. I will receive your instruction. I will follow your guidance. I will allow you to guide the entire course of my life. My heart and mind and life will be entirely focused on you. I will meet with you in prayer. I will meet with you in worship. I will meet with you in your word. I will meet with you in service. I will allow you to form the thoughts of my mind, the words of my mouth and the deeds of my life. I will be fully devoted to loving and following and serving you. I will have my eyes on you as I walk through life with you. That will be very good.

What will happen to you as you remain vitally connected to me? Beyond, what I have already mentioned? Yes, beyond what you have already mentioned. You will make me to be a witness for you in the world. Your life will be lived out through my life. Your light will shine through me in the darkness of this world. You will make me able to bear fruit for your kingdom. You will allow me to bring glory to your name. Yes, your life will bear an abundance of fruit as you remain vitally connected to me. Bearing fruit for me will be a sure sign to the world that you truly are one of my disciples. What else? You will make me able to pray prayers that you will hear and answer, as I remain vitally connected to you. Yes, I will. Why is that? As I remain vitally connected to you, I will know your will and walk in your ways. Prayers will be in my heart and mind, and on my lips that are according to your will, as I remain vitally connected to you. That is good. That is right. That is true. Thank you. Lord.

Lord, I know that apart from you I can do nothing of lasting and eternal value. My efforts will amount to nothing. Help me to remain vitally connected to you. Help me to bear fruit for your kingdom. Help me to pray prayers that can be heard and answered. Amen

Key Question… What spiritual practices help you to remain vitally connected to the Lord?

Living It Out… Remain vitally connected to the Lord so you will be able to bear fruit for Him.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that the Lord will make you able to bear fruit as you remain vitally connected to Him.

Called To Go

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 69 - Hebrews 11-8 - Called To Go - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 69 – Hebrews 11-8 – Called To Go – Growing As Disciples

By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. Hebrews 11:8 (NIV)

Ready To Go

Will you go wherever I guide you? Will you do whatever I ask of you? I assume you are asking me if I will go even if I don’t know where I am going, or will I do something even though I may not fully understand what I am doing. That is a very good assumption. That is exactly what I am asking you. You could have asked me if I will take steps of faith with you. Yes, I could have asked you that question, but I didn’t. What would you say if I was asking you to take more than steps of faith? Are you asking me If I will take leaps of faith with you? Yes, now you are more clearly understanding what I am asking of you. A leap of faith would require me to put all my faith and trust in you. Yes, it would. A leap of faith would require me to leave the comfortable and familiar for what might be uncomfortable and unfamiliar. How does that sound to you? It sounds a little scary. It sounds quite challenging. It sounds unpredictable. Yes, it is all those things, without a doubt. What do you say? I will not say no to you, that is for sure. Will you say yes to me? Yes, I will. Why will you say yes to me? I know that you will be with me. You will help me. I also know that you have a good plan for my life. Your will and your ways are better than my plan. You will do in and through me what I could never even imagine. How do you know that? Just looking back over my life, I could have never predicted where you would have led me and how you would have used me. Had I designed my own way; it would have been far less demanding. It would have been far more predictable. It would have probably been uninteresting and even boring. It would also have been unfruitful, and all of this would have been most regrettable. I am thankful and grateful that you have been leading and guiding the course of my life. That’s good. So, I will say it again, yes, I will go wherever you guide me to do whatever you ask of me. Without qualifications? Without limits? Yes, whenever and wherever. I am at your service. I am ready to go. That is very good.

Lord, I will listen to you. I will accept your instruction. I will follow your guidance. I will go and do whatever you ask of me, even when I do not fully understand where I will be going or what I will be doing. All I know is that I will be following and serving you. Amen

Key Question… When has the Lord asked you to go and do something for Him that you didn’t fully understand?

Living It Out… Go and do what the Lord asks of you even when you don’t fully understand.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that the Lord will bless your life as you go and do what He asks of you.

Thoroughly Equipped

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 68 -2 Timothy 3:16-17 - Thoroughly Equipped - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 68 -2 Timothy 3:16-17 – Thoroughly Equipped – Growing As Disciples

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)

Preparing You

Why have I given you my word? What do you think I want to accomplish in you by my word? You have given me your word to make yourself known to me. Without your word I would know very little about you. You want to teach me your will and show me your ways. You want to rebuke me when I’m wrong. You want to correct me and set me on the path of righteousness as I love, follow and serve you. Yes, I do.

What must you do in order for my word to accomplish my work in you? I’m not exactly sure what you mean. What will short circuit my word working in your life? I need to spend time meeting with you in your word. I need to let your word dwell in me richly. I need to meditate on your word day and night. What else? I need to hear and obey all that you are saying to me.  I need to put into practice whatever you show me. I need to be a hearer and a doer of your word. Yes, that’s right.  As your word dwells in me, I will be strengthened to go where you guide me to do what you ask of me. I will be able to stand against temptations in this world and the evil that the devil throws at me. Yes, you will.

Is my word just for you? Do I have another very important purpose in mind that I want to accomplish in you, by my word? Your word is not just for me. You want to change my heart and transform my mind and guide my life by your word. Yes, I do. Then what? You do have another very important purpose in mind. What’s that? You want to use me for your kingdom and glory. You want me to bear an abundance of fruit for you.  Yes, I do. So, what is my word doing in you now? Your word is preparing and equipping me to do the work that you have given me to do for you. You have good works planned for me to do for you. Yes, I do. Whatever you guide me to do, you will prepare me to do. Yes, I will.

So why is it so important that you spend time with me in my word? You will use your word to change who I am. You will use your word to prepare me to do what you have given me to do. Yes, I will.

Lord, I delight to hear your word. Your word has changed the course of my life. Your word is teaching and training me to live the life you have called me to live. Thank you that your word is equipping me to do the work you have given me to do for you.  Amen

Key Question… How has God used His word to prepare and equip you to do the work He has given you to do for Him?

Accomplish What I Desire

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 67 - Isaiah 55:10-11 - Accomplish What I Desire - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 67 – Isaiah 55:10-11 – Accomplish What I Desire – Growing As Disciples

As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.  Isaiah 55:10-11 (NIV)

Working in Your Life

My word is working in your life. My word will accomplish the purpose for which I have sent it. Do you know what I purpose and plan to do in your life with my word? Is that something I can know? What do you think? I don’t think you would ask me a question I could not answer, at least, not very often. Tell me then why I have given you my word? You have given me your word so that I can know you and your thoughts. You want to reveal yourself and your will to me. It is not your plan to hide yourself from me. So, I have made myself available to you so I can listen attentively to all that you want to say to me. I don’t want to miss out on even one word you want to say to me.  You have gone to great lengths to make yourself known to me. That’s right.  What else? You have given me your word so that I can think your thoughts and do your will. Knowing your thoughts and your will has shown me how much higher and better your ways are than mine. Knowing your thoughts and your ways has helped me to forsake my own thoughts and ways. I want your word to have free reign in my life. I now know that it is your plan to change my heart and transform my mind as I meditate on your word. Yes, it is. What else? As you change my heart and transform my mind with your word you are also making me able to bear fruit for your kingdom and glory. Just as a rainstorm or a snowstorm waters the earth so is your word refreshing, renewing, and sustaining my life. Your word is causing me to grow into the person you want me to be. Your word is helping me to do what you have called me to do for you. Your word has been my guide. You have taught me to wait and to listen to your word. You have shown me how to rest in your presence so that I can hear from you.  You are guiding every step of my life by your word. Your word has become my delight. Yes, it has. What else? As I bear fruit for your kingdom and glory I am filled with great joy and peace because I know that I am doing what pleases you. I am fulfilling the purpose for which you made me. There is nothing I want more in life than to know you and do your will. There is nothing I want more in life than to have your will accomplished in my life. So, I invite you to speak to me. I am here to listen to your word. I am ready to follow and obey you. I want what you want. I want your word to accomplish everything you have in your mind and in your plan that you have spoken. I welcome your word to work in my life. That is very good.

Lord, thank you for refreshing and sustaining my life by your word. Your word has been my guide. Your word has shown me that your thoughts and ways are higher than mine. Your word has helped me to bear fruit for you. Your word has given me peace and joy. Amen

Key Question… What purposes and plans has God’s word been able to accomplish in and through your life?

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that God will use His word to accomplish His purposes and plans in and through your life.
