I Am The Gate

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 140 - John 10:7-10 - I Am The Gate - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 140 – John 10:7-10 – I Am The Gate – Growing As Disciples

Therefore Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep.  All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them.  I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture.  The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.   John 10:7-10 (NIV)

Fullness Of Life

Do you want life? Do you want to live in the fullness of life that I have for you? Do you want life that starts now and continues forever? Yes, I want life. Yes, I want to live in the fullness of life you have for me. Yes, I want life that starts now and continues forever. How can I have such life? You already have eternal life in me, that will continue forever. You have come to believe in me. You turned your life over to me. You left your old life of sin. You turned away from darkness. You have me as your Savior and Lord.  But something is missing in my life, isn’t it? Maybe I should rather say, I am not receiving all that you want to give me. That would be true. Tell me what I am missing?

You have been listening to what is not true. You have been listening to lies from the devil and all his evil. You have been allowing words that steal, kill and destroy to come into your heart and mind and life. That is not good. You will be unable to receive the fullness of life that I have for you now as long as you continue to listen to words that will kill and steal and destroy life in you. How can I guard against life killing, stealing and destroying words from coming into my life? That is a very good question. You are wondering how you can stop thinking destructive thoughts. That’s true. The more I determine to not think a thought, the more I think it. Yes, you will never win that battle. Instead of not thinking destructive thoughts I want you to replace those thoughts with the thoughts that I think about you. How do I do that? Listen to me. Listen to my voice. Hear what I am saying to you. Meet with me daily in my word. Take my word deep into your heart and mind and life. My word will cleanse your mind. My word will strengthen your mind. My word will transform your mind. My word will push words that steal and kill and destroy far from your heart and mind and life. Will you listen to me? Will you meet with me? Will you allow me to give you fullness of life both now and forever? Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good.

Lord, oftentimes I have listened to what was not true. I have allowed the devil and his evil to speak words, that steal, kill and destroy, into my life. No more! You are my Savior and Lord. I will listen only to your voice. Give me fullness of life both now and forever. Amen

Key Question… How are you listening to life giving words from the Lord instead of life destroying words from evil?

Living It Out… Receive Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord so He can give you life both now and forever.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that Jesus Christ is your door to truth and life both now and forever.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how you are allowing the Lord to speak truth and life into you.

Prayer To Bless Others… May you enter into the life Jesus Christ wants to give you both now and forever.

The Lord Gives Wisdom

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 139 - Proverbs 2:6-11 - The Lord Gives Wisdom - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 139 – Proverbs 2:6-11 – The Lord Gives Wisdom – Growing As Disciples

For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds victory in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,  for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones. Then you will understand what is right and just and fair–every good path.  For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.  Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you. Proverbs 2:6-11 (NIV)

My Wisdom

How do you want to live your life? That is quite a broad question. I will narrow the scope of my question. Will you rely on your wisdom or will you rely on my wisdom to guide the course of your life? Will you allow my wisdom to form all your thoughts and words and actions or will you follow your own counsel and live by your own guidance? How is that? Have I made my questions clear enough for you to consider? Can you see two distinctly different choices before you relating to the leadership of your life? I could also ask, “Who will be in charge of your life?” Will you be in charge of your life or will I be in charge of your life? Your questions are now quite clear. I have no confusion about what you are asking of me. I do see two very clear and opposing choices before me. There is no doubt about that. That’s good. I believe that I have already answered your questions, once and for all time. How so? On the day that I asked you to come into my life and be my Savior and Lord, I turned the leadership of my life over to you. I acknowledged and confessed my sins to you. I left my old life of sin and darkness, in the world, and began to walk in the light with you. I told you that I wanted to know you. I told you that I wanted to walk in your ways. I told you that I wanted to live a life that is good and right and pleasing to you. My old life is gone. My new life with you is here. Does that seem like an adequate answer to your questions? It is more than an adequate answer to my questions. You have answered my questions well. That’s good.

You have answered my questions well on a once for all time basis and that is very good. But what about on a day to day basis? I’m not sure what you mean. Would it be good for you to keep on reaffirming your once and for all time decision to rely on my wisdom? Would it be good for you to commit to ask for, receive and act on my wisdom everyday as you love, follow and serve me? Yes, that would be very good. Why is that? I need to continually remind myself that I will be relying on your wisdom as I walk through life with you. That is something I must never forget. That is something I must always do. I must always ask for and continue to live by your wisdom. That will be very good.

Lord, I desperately need your wisdom. Without your wisdom I will make many foolish mistakes and take many dumb missteps. So, I am asking for your wisdom to guide all my thoughts, words and actions. Guide the entire course of my life with your wisdom. Amen

Key Question… How are you relying on God’s word to give you the wisdom you will need in life?

Living It Out… Ask the Lord to give you wisdom to guide all your thoughts, words, and actions.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that the Lord will give you wisdom to guide your thoughts, words and actions.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how you are asking for, receiving and acting on God’s wisdom.

Prayer To Bless Others… May you ask for and receive and act on all the wisdom the Lord wants to give to you.

Told You

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 138 - Micah 6:8 - Told You - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 138 – Micah 6:8 – Told You – Growing As Disciples

The LORD has told you, human, what is good; he has told you what he wants from you: to do what is right to other people, love being kind to others, and live humbly, obeying your God. Micah 6:8 (NCV)

What I Want

Do you know what I want? I’m not sure what you have in mind. I do know many things that you want from me. What have you heard? What have I told you? What have I shown you? You have told and shown me that you want me to do what is right, I know that without a doubt. What does that mean? Well, if I have the conviction that you do or don’t want me to do something and I do the opposite, that would be a sin. Not doing what you ask of me is not pleasing to you. Doing what you have told me not to do is also not pleasing to you. Following and obeying you is what you want from me. That is true. What motivates you to follow and obey me? Why do you want to do what is right? I want to do what is right and follow and obey you because I love you. My love for you causes me to not only follow and obey you but to also look for ways to please you. That is the desire of my heart and mind and life. That is very good.

How will you know if you are doing what is right? I will live as you lived. I will do what you did. I will think and speak and act like you. I will love like you loved. I will give like you gave.  I will treat others to the same kindness and mercy and love that I have received from you. I can’t go wrong by patterning my life after yours. No, you cannot. I will follow your example. That will be very good.

How will you live before me? How will you live before others? How will you live as my witness in the world? What will be your attitude? I will live humbly before you. I will live humbly before others. You did not come into this world to be served. To the contrary, you took on the form of a servant. You did not insist on rights or privileges for yourself. You lived to serve your Heavenly Father. You lived to serve the needs of mankind. You gave your all. You held nothing in reserve. You lived with no regrets. You made no retreats. You kept on moving forward with your Heavenly Father to go where He guided you to do what He asked of you. That is the same kind of life I want to live before you and others so I can bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. That will be very good.

Lord, I will do what is right. I will follow your example. I will do what you have asked of me. I will be kind to others in thought, word, and deed. I will show mercy just as you have shown mercy to me. I will live humbly as I love, follow, serve and obey you. Amen

Key Question… How are you making every effort to treat others with loving kindness?

Living It Out… Make very sure that you are doing what is right, being kind to others, and walking humbly with God.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that the Lord will help you to do what is right, be kind to others, and walk humbly with Him.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how you are doing right, being kind, and walking humbly with God.

Prayer To Bless Others… May you do what is right, be kind to others, and walk humbly with God.

Gentle Whisper

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 136 - 1 Kings 19:11-12 - Gentle Whisper - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 136 – 1 Kings 19:11-12 – Gentle Whisper – Growing As Disciples

The LORD said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake.  After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 1 Kings 19:11-12 (NIV)

Hear From Me

Do you want to hear from me? Yes, of course, I want to hear from you. Then I will ask you a couple questions. I’m listening. That’s good. What will make you able to hear from me? What will you unable to hear from me? I will start with your second question first. I will be unable to hear from you if I don’t believe that you will speak to me. I will be unable to hear from you if I am making no attempt to listen to you. I will be unable to hear from you if I never quiet myself before you. Why is that? This life is noisy. This life is busy. This life is distracting. This life is all consuming. If I don’t set aside a time and place to quiet myself before you, it will be very difficult for me to hear from you. That is true. There is something else that I have learned. What is that? Being able to hear and recognize your voice is something that grows over time. How so? The more I quiet myself before you and the more I listen to you, the more I will hear your gentle whispers speaking to me. That is also true. I know a couple other points are true, without a doubt. Tell me about them. If I am unwilling to obey you, I will be unlikely to hear from you. Why would you speak to me if I am unwilling to listen to you? Good point. Not obeying you is a sin, which brings me to the next point. If I have unconfessed sin in my life, I am unlikely to hear from you. Why is that? Unconfessed sin will more likely make me want to run from you rather than draw near to you. You are wise to know that to be true.

Let me hear what will make you able to hear from me? A burning desire to hear from you will make me able to hear from you. I will certainly find you if I seek you with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. I will certainly find you if I seek you with all that is within me. Yes, you will. A willingness to quiet myself before you will make me able to hear from you. A willingness to confess all my sins to you will make me able to hear from you. A commitment to set apart a daily time and place to meet with you will make me able to hear from you. Will you do all these things? Will you have this desire and this willingness in you? Yes, I will. That will be very good. Then you will hear from me.

Heavenly Father, I know life is busy. I know that life is noisy. I know that I am hard of hearing. So, I will set aside a daily time and place to meet with you. I will quiet myself before you. I will listen carefully to you. I will hear your gentle whispers speaking to me. Amen

Key Question… How has your Heavenly Father guided the course of your life as you have listened to His quiet whispers?

Living It Out… Quiet yourself before your Heavenly Father so you can hear His gentle whispers speaking to you.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that your Heavenly Father will speak to you in gentle whispers when you quiet yourself before Him.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group when you are quieting yourself before your Heavenly Father.

Prayer To Bless Others… May you listen carefully so you can hear your Heavenly Father speaking to you.

Light Of The World

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 135 - John 8:12 - Light Of The World - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 135 – John 8:12 – Light Of The World – Growing As Disciples

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12 (NIV)

Light

Do you want to walk in the light? Yes, of course, I want to walk in the light. How can I walk in the light? You can only walk in the light with me. You live in a world filled with darkness. Daily your heart and mind and life are being bombarded by the darkness of this world. If you were not careful, if you paid no attention, one day you would come to think and speak and act like everyone else in this world. Your thoughts and words and actions would be no different than everyone else living in the darkness of this world. You would stumble around. You would misspend your life. You would end up doing what amounted to nothing of eternal value. Your life would be a waste. You would have born no fruit for my kingdom or brought no glory to my name. You would have missed your calling to be a light in the world, as you follow me. I certainly do not want that future. I don’t want that destiny to be true of me. Yes, I know.

So, that brings me to my next and more precise question. How can I walk in the light with you? That is a very good and important question. The answer to that question will change all your thoughts and words and actions. The answer to that question will give your life hope and meaning and purpose. The answer to that question will guard and guide your life away from darkness into the light. The answer to that question will guarantee that you will not misspend your life doing what is of no eternal value. The answer to that question will guarantee that you will bear an abundance of fruit for my kingdom and bring glory to my name. I am ready for the answer to my question. Walk in the light with me. Live in an intimate relationship with me. Draw near to me in prayer. Draw near to me in worship. Draw near to me in my word. Draw near to be in the gathering of fellow believers. Draw near to me in service. Follow me to where I lead. Follow me in doing what I ask of you. Will you do all these things that are part of walking in the light with me? Yes Lord, I will. Then you will have the light of life. Then you will have me guiding you though the darkness into my light. Then you will also be a light for me in the world. Thank you, Lord. These things, I will do. That will be very good.

Lord, you are the light of the world. Not only that, you are the light of my life. Thank you for giving my life hope and meaning and purpose and direction as I have followed you. Keep me on course as I follow you to where you lead me to do what you ask of me. Amen

Key Question… How is following the Lord kept you from stumbling around and wandering into the darkness of this world?

Living It Out… Follow the Lord so you can live and walk in the light with Him.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that the Lord will give you light to guide your life as you follow Him.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how the Lord is giving you light to guide your life as you follow Him.

The Bread Of Life

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 134 - John 6:35-40 - The Bread Of Life - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 134 – John 6:35-40 – The Bread Of Life – Growing As Disciples

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.  But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe.  All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away.  For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.  And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day.  For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.” John 6:35-40 (NIV)

Hunger And Thirst

Your hunger and thirst drew you to me. Without me, you had no hope and purpose and meaning in life. Without me, you had a void within you that nothing from the world would ever be able to fill. Without me, you were living a bruised and battered and broken life. You were wandering from one meaningless endeavor to another. You were walking on a path of darkness that was leading away from me. You were hungry. You were thirsty. You were searching. Is this all true? Yes, all that you have said is true. Without you, I was lost, there is no doubt about that.

But I was unwilling to let you go. I was unwilling to let you live a life without me, both now and forever. I pursued you. I sought you out. I allowed your hunger and thirst to do its work within you. I gave you the awareness that something was drastically missing from your life. I fostered your search for something else, and something more. I placed a desire for more within you. You did not know it at the time, but you were searching for me. I allowed you to hunger and thirst for me. The void of emptiness that you were feeling was me not being in your life. The lostness you were feeling was you not living your life with and for me. Is all that I am saying true? Yes, all that you have said is true. Without you, I was empty inside, there is no doubt about that.

Will you continue to love and follow and serve me? Will you continue to live your life with and for me? Will you continue to walk with me through life? Yes Lord, it will be my joy and pleasure to love and follow and serve you. I will walk through life with you. I will live my life with and for you. You are my Savior and Lord. I will follow you to where you lead me. I will do whatever you ask of me. That will be very good.

Lord, before I came to know and love and follow and serve you as my Savior and Lord, I thought I had many hungers and thirsts. What I did not know is that my hunger and thirst was for you. Thank you for filling my life with hope and meaning and purpose. Amen

Key Question… How did your Heavenly Father use your hungers and thirsts to draw you to Christ?

Living It Out… Believe in and follow Christ as your Savior and Lord so He can satisfy your hunger and thirst for Him.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that your hunger and thirst will be satisfied as you believe in and follow Christ as your Savior and Lord?

Recognized By Its Fruit

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 133 - Matthew 12:33-37 - Recognized By Its Fruit - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 133 – Matthew 12:33-37 – Recognized By Its Fruit – Growing As Disciples

“Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.  You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.  The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.  But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken.  For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.” Matthew 12:33-37 (NIV)

Fruit

What fruit is your life bearing? I’m not sure what you mean. Is your life bearing good or bad fruit? Can you be more specific? Yes, I can be more specific. Are your thoughts and words and actions, good and right and true? Are your thoughts and words and actions, helpful and healing? Are your thoughts and words and actions, uplifting and encouraging? Are your thoughts and words and actions building others up rather than tearing them down? Now, I understand what you are asking of me. Do you have an answer for me? To all your questions, I have one answer, I would have to say sometimes, maybe most the time, but not always. Occasionally, and maybe more frequently than that, something regrettable comes out of my mouth. I don’t know where these thoughtless and careless and regrettable words originate. I don’t know why these hurtful and harmful words come out of my mouth. I do. You do? Yes, I do. Whatever is in your heart, good or bad, will one day come spilling out of your life, in your thoughts and words and actions. So, does my heart need changing? Good question.  Yes, your heart needs changing. How will that happen? How can that be possible? Whatever you store in your heart will one day come out of your life, guaranteed, without a doubt, without any exceptions. What should I store in my heart? You tell me. I should store your word in my heart. Storing your word in my heart will change my heart. Storing your word in my heart will transform my mind. Storing your word in my heart will guide the course of my entire life. If your word is stored in me, it will always come spilling out of me. Your word will give me your thoughts to think, your words to speak and your actions to take. Your word will do its work in me so that I can bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. Yes, it will. Will you store my word in you? Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good.

Lord, I want my life to bear good fruit for your kingdom and glory. I want good thoughts and words and actions to overflow my life. I will store your word in my heart. Use your word to change my heart, transform my mind and guide the course of my entire life. Amen

Key Question… What good things, stored in your heart, are overflowing your thoughts, words and actions?

Living It Out… Store up good things in your heart so the fruit of good thoughts and words and actions will come out of your life.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that the good you store in your heart will come out in your thoughts and words and actions.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how the Lord is helping you to store good things in your heart.

What God Has Prepared

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 132 - 1 Corinthians 2:9-10 - What God Has Prepared - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 132 – 1 Corinthians 2:9-10 – What God Has Prepared – Growing As Disciples

However, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him”–  but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.  1 Corinthians 2:9-10 (NIV)

Prepared For You

Do you know what I have prepared for you? Do you know what is coming next? Can you dream of or even imagine the life I have for you? No, I cannot, at least not with any degree of detail. What you have given to me, where you have led me and what you have done in and through me has largely been a complete surprise to me. Not everything I have done, am doing and will do in and through you is a complete surprise to you. There is much that I have, am, and will reveal to you. Tell me what you do know. You have been and will continue to change my heart, transform my mind and guide my life. This work in me began on the day I came to welcome you into my life as my Savior and Lord. On that day, your Holy Spirit came to live and dwell inside of me. On that day, little by little, and more and more, I began to be able to think your thoughts. speak your words and do your deeds. You have helped me to live a life that is good and right and pleasing to you. Say more about that. As I have lived my life with and for you, you have helped me to come to know and love and follow and serve you. As I have walked through life with you, our relationship has grown more intimate. How so? I can hear your voice speaking to me. I can see your hand guiding me. I am following you to where you lead me. I am doing whatever you ask of me. As I have walked through life with you, I have become more like you. Your life lives in me. Your light shines through me. As I have walked through life with you, it has become my passionate desire to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. This has been your work in me. This work, of yours, in me will continue day by day until I come to live forever in heaven with you. Now that day will be amazing. What you have prepared for me then and there is far beyond my comprehensive. That will certainly be beyond what I could have asked for, dreamed of, or even imagined. Nothing of beauty from this earth will compare with the beauty of heaven and living with you there. That I am looking forward to with great expectation. In the meantime, I welcome your work in me. That is very good.

Heavenly Father, thank you for giving me far beyond what I could have ever asked for, dreamed of, or even imagined. You made it so I could love and follow and serve you. You have given me a completely new life to live both now and forever in heaven with you. Amen

Key Question… When has God prepared something for you that was beyond what you could have asked for or imagined?

Temple Of The Holy Spirit

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 131 - 1 Corinthians 6-18-20 - Temple Of The Holy Spirit - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 131 – 1 Corinthians 6-18-20 – Temple Of The Holy Spirit – Growing As Disciples

Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body.  Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 (NIV)

Honor Me

Do you want to honor me? Do you want to honor me with all your thoughts and words and actions? Do you want to honor me with all that is within you? Do you want to honor me with your body? Yes, I want to honor you with all that is within me. I want all my thoughts and word and actions to honor you. I want my body to honor you. How can all this be true of me? How can I make sure to honor you? First, you must do what you have just done. What have I just done? You have made a decision. You have stated your intent. You have committed to a plan. It is your decision and your intent and your plan to honor me. Yes, this is what I have done. That is very good.

Do you know why it is important that you have stated your decision and intent and plan? I’m not sure. Temptation will certainly come your way. Evil desires will try to entice. Sexual immorality will seek to ensnare you. It is then when you need to remember your decision, intent and plan. It is then that you will need to put your decision and intent and plan into action. How will I put my decision and intent and plan into action? How will I make sure that I will honor you with all that is within me? That is a good question that you must answer. I can think of only one answer. Let me hear your answer. I must flee evil desires that try to entice me. I must run from sexual immorality when it seeks to ensnare me. Why is that? Lingering around evil desires and sexual immorality is the surest way to be enticed and ensnared by them. I must not allow myself to enter tempting circumstances. I must not place myself in the midst evil and enticing desires. I must immediately run from this evil and these temptations. It is not good enough to simply run away. I know that, without a doubt. To where will you run? I will run to you. I will leave evil and enticing desires far behind me, as I run to you. By running away, I will be resisting the devil. By running to you, I will be submitting myself to you. When I do both, the devil and all is evil will flee from me. That is true. That is good. That is right. That is how you will put your decision and intent and plan to honor me into action. That is how you will be able to honor me with all that is within you. That is my decision, intent and plan. That is very good.

Lord, I will honor you with my body. That is my advance decision. I know that your Holy Spirit lives and dwells within me. I don’t want any of my thoughts or words or actions to grieve you. So, I will immediately flee sexual immorality whenever it approaches me. Amen

Key Question… When have you immediately fled sexual immorality as you saw it approaching you?

Listen To My Instruction

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 130 - Proverbs 8:32-36 - Listen To My Instruction - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 130 – Proverbs 8:32-36 – Listen To My Instruction – Growing As Disciples

Now then, my sons, listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways.  Listen to my instruction and be wise; do not ignore it.  Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway.  For whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the LORD.  But whoever fails to find me harms himself; all who hate me love death.” Proverbs 8:32-36 (NIV)

Be Wise

Would you like to be wise? Would you like your life to be blessed? Would you like to find life? Would you like to receive my favor? Yes, I want all these things to be true of my life. Who wouldn’t want to be wise? Who wouldn’t want your blessing on their life? Who wouldn’t want to find life? Who wouldn’t want to receive your favor? Someone not wanting these things would have to be very foolish. Is that all? No, someone not wanting these things would need to be very stubborn. Is there anything else? Well yes, someone not willing to receive all these blessings from you must have some form of hatred toward you. They must live in darkness. They must not want to come into the light. They must love doing what is evil. Their evil life, that is filled with death, must repulse them from you. That is hard to imagine. But I have no doubt that it is true. Yes, unfortunately it is true. Those that love the darkness of evil will never come into the light to receive me and the blessings that I want to give to them. That is so sad. Yes, it is.

But let’s talk about you. What about me? What must you do if you want to be wise? What must you do if you want your life to be blessed? What will you do so that you can find life and receive my favor? I will give my heart and mind and life to you. I will follow you as my Savior and Lord. I will live my life in full devotion to you. It will be my pleasure and joy to love and follow and serve you with all that is within me. I will listen attentively to you. I will follow your wisdom. I will receive your instruction. I will allow your word to guard and guide my life. I will live day by day in an intimate relationship with you. I will follow you to where you lead me. I will do whatever you ask of me. My life will be in your hands. I will allow you to mold and shape me into the person you want me to become. That will be very good. Then you will be able to receive all that I have to give you. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, I know I have been proud. I know I have been stubborn. I know I have foolishly followed my own wisdom. No more! Now, I will listen

Key Question… How has the Lord’s favor blessed your life as you listened to and followed His wisdom?

Living It Out… Make it the priority of your life to listen to and follow the Lord’s wisdom.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that the Lord’s favor will bless your life as you listen to and follow His wisdom.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how you are listening to and following the Lord’s wisdom.

Prayer To Bless Others… May you listen to and follow wisdom from the Lord so His favor will rest on you.
