Fix Your Thoughts On Jesus

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 108 - Hebrews 3:1 - Fix Your Thoughts On Jesus - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 108 – Hebrews 3:1 – Fix Your Thoughts On Jesus – Growing As Disciples

Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess. Hebrews 3:1 (NIV)

Fix My Thoughts

Will you allow me to do that for you? Will I allow you to do what for me? Will you allow me to fix your thoughts? Are you happy with all your thoughts? Are you content with what you are allowing your mind to think? Do you have thoughts that you would rather have pushed out of your heart and mind and life? Do you have thoughts that are discouraging and depressing? Do you have thoughts that are unhealthy and unhelpful? Do you have thoughts that are debilitating and defeating? I understand the point you are making. I know what you are saying to me. I am sure of what you are trying to show me. What point am I making? What am I saying to you? What am I trying to show you? My mind is filled with thoughts that are inconsistent with your call on my life. My mind is filled with thoughts that are not good and right and pleasing to you. You would like to fix my thoughts. Yes, I would. Yes, your mind is filled with thoughts that are unhelpful and unhealthy. I agree. That’s good.

How will you fix my thoughts? What work will you do in my heart and mind and life? How will you make me able to think and speak and act like you? That is a very insightful question. That question contains your answer. I’m not seeing it. Fix your thoughts on me and I will fix the thoughts of your mind. Keep your heart and mind and life focused on me and you will have my thoughts to think, words to speak and actions to take. If your thoughts are fixed on me, thoughts of the world cannot and will not remain in you. Fixing your thoughts on me will push worldly and sinful and evil thoughts out of your heart and mind and life. Fixing your thoughts on me will make you more and more like me every day as you love, follow and serve me. Fixing your thoughts on me will keep discouraging and depressing and debilitating and defeating thoughts out of your heart and mind and life. Fixing your thoughts on me will help you to live out your calling. You will know where I am leading you. You will know what I am asking of you. You will live the life I have called you to live. Will you fix your thoughts on me? Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good.

Lord, I will tell you what. My thoughts need fixing. I need to take my mind off the world and all its evil. I need to have undesirable thoughts pushed out of my heart and mind and life. So, I will fix all my thoughts on you. Transform all the thoughts of my mind. Amen

Key Question… How is fixing your thoughts on Jesus Christ helping you to become more and more like Him?

Living It Out… Fix your thoughts on Jesus Christ so you will come to think and speak, and act like Him.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that you will become more and more like Christ as you fix your thoughts on Him.

Self-Controlled And Alert

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 107 - 1 Peter 5:8-11 - Self-Controlled And Alert - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 107 – 1 Peter 5:8-11 – Self-Controlled And Alert – Growing As Disciples

Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.  Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.  To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 5:8-11 (NIV)

Strong, Firm And Steadfast

Are you weaker or are you stronger because you have endured suffering? Do you have lesser or greater faith because you have experienced trials? Have you relied on me less or more because you have been under attack by the devil and all his evil? Has suffering and trials and evil attacks caused you to be less or more self-controlled, alert, watchful and on guard? Are you more powerfully resisting evil and standing firm in your faith because of what you have had to endure in this life? Have you thought that it is strange that you have had to endure hardship? Have you felt that you are the only one who has had to go through great difficulty? Finally, my last question, is your relationship with me less or more intimate because of all the troubles and trials you have gone through in life? Alright, I see where all your questions are headed. I get the point that you are making. You are a quick study. Tell me what is the point that I am making. This life is filled with pain and suffering. I can expect to come under attack. You suffered. I will suffer. You endured attacks. I will endure attacks. No pain or suffering or trials or attacks of evil are unique to me. I am not alone. I am not the only one. So, I need not have any poor me attitude about them. What I need to do is be self-controlled and alert, watchful and on guard. I need to draw near to you in every adversity I will face in life. You will be with me to help me. You will sustain and strengthen me. You will make me strong and firm and steadfast in every trial I face. You will encourage me. My faith in you will grow stronger as I more fully come to rely on you. My life with you will grow more intimate as I allow you to be my rock and fortress and deliverer. I can take shelter in you. Even though I do not like pain and sufferings and trials, you will use them to accomplish your purposes and fulfill your plans in my life. So, I will trust you. I will rely on you. I will ask for your help. I will draw near to you as you draw near to me in every adversity in life. You do understand the point I was making. Yes, I do. That is very good.

Lord, I will remain self-controlled and alert. I will be watchful and on guard against the devil and all his evil attacks. I will not think it strange that I am going through suffering in this life. I will rely on you fully to make me strong, firm and steadfast in every trial. Amen

Key Question… How has God’s word helped you to stand firm in your faith and resist the devil and all his evil?

Living It Out… Be self-controlled and alert as you rely on the Lord to make you strong, firm and steadfast against evil attacks.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that the Lord will make you strong, firm and steadfast against attacks from the devil and all his evil.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how the Lord has made you strong, firm and steadfast against attacks.

Prayer To Bless Others… May you be self-controlled and alert, relying on the Lord to make you strong, firm and steadfast.

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 106 – Psalm 119:25-32 – The Path – Growing As Disciples

I am laid low in the dust; preserve my life according to your word.  I recounted my ways and you answered me; teach me your decrees.  Let me understand the teaching of your precepts; then I will meditate on your wonders.  My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word.  Keep me from deceitful ways; be gracious to me through your law.  I have chosen the way of truth; I have set my heart on your laws.  I hold fast to your statutes, O LORD; do not let me be put to shame.  I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free. Psalm 119:25-32 (NIV)

Path Of Life

Do you want your heart and mind to be set free? Do you want to live in freedom? Do you want to be guided and guarded away from the deceptive and deceitful ways that are in the world? Do you want to be lifted-up and encouraged when you feel like you have been knocked down and are lying in the dust? Do you want to receive hope and encouragement and joy when your soul is weary with sorrow? Do you want to be strengthened against all that this sin broken world might throw at you? Do you want to be able to know and live in the truth? Do you never want to be put to shame? Do you want to be able to run on the path of life with me? How could I not want all these things to be true in my life? How could anyone reject living this kind of life with you? Yes, I want all these things to be true for me. That is very good.

What must I do to live in this kind of freedom? How can I run on the path of life with you? How can I live in this kind of freedom? Meditate on my word. Take my word deep into your heart and mind and life. Allow my word to change your heart, transform your mind and guide your life. Allow me to teach you. Let me train you. My word will lift you up when you are down. My word will strengthen you when you are weak.  My word will guard and guide your life. My word will prevent you from following the deceptive ways that are in the world. My word will help you to know and live by the truth. Take a firm grip on my word. Allow my word to take a firm grip on you. Then you will be run on the path of life with me. Will you meditate on my word? Will you take my word deep into your heart and mind and life? Yes, Lord, I will. That will be very good.

Lord, I will meditate on your word. I will take your word deeply into my heart and mind and life. I will allow your word to change my heart and transform my mind. Use your word to guard and guide my life. Help me to run on the path of freedom with you. Amen

Key Question… How are you now allowing the truth of God’s word to guide the entire course of your life?

Living It Out… Meditate on God’s word so that your heart will be set free to run on the path of life with Him.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that meditating on God’s word will set your heart free to run on the path of life with Him.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how meditating on God’s word has been setting your heart free.

Prayer To Bless Others… May you meditate on God’s word so you can run in freedom on the path of life with Him.

Follow Me

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 105 - Matthew 16:24-27 - Follow Me - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 105 – Matthew 16:24-27 – Follow Me – Growing As Disciples

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.  For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it.  What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?  For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done. Matthew 16:24-27 (NIV)

Find Myself

You once went on a long journey of many months and thousands of miles to find yourself. Yes, I did. Did you find what you were looking for in yourself? No, I did not. What did you find? Something ironic happened to me. Before I set out on my journey to find myself, you found me. You drew me to yourself. I confessed my sins to you. I asked you to come into my life. I may have asked you to be my Savior and Lord. But I’m not sure. I had so little understanding of what had taken place. I now know that on the day I turned my life over to you, you did come into my life. Your Holy Spirit came to live and dwell in me. You forgave my sin. You cleansed my unrighteousness. You made me your own. You adopted me into my family. You did become my Savior and Lord. That was many years ago, almost a full lifetime ago. Yes, I did all these things for you.

Where have you gone and what have you done since the day you asked me to come into your life as your Savior and Lord. You may not remember clearly, but you did ask me to be your Savior and Lord. Since that day, I have been loving and following and serving you. Have I loved you fully? Have I followed you perfectly? Have I served you completely? The answer would be no. But it is the desire of my heart to deny myself, take up the cross and follow you. I want to go wherever you guide me. I want to do whatever you ask of me. Does this desire come from a sense of obligation? Do I want to live my life being fully devoted to you because I should or must? Am I willing to take up the cross and follow you in order to satisfy some requirement? No, I want to live a life that is good and right and pleasing to you because I love you with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. My love for you motivates my desire to deny myself, take up the cross and follow you. So, it does not feel like a heavy obligation or herculean sacrifice to me. I am following you to where you lead to do what you ask of me because it is the desire of my heart and mind and soul. With all that is within me, I want to live my life with and for you. That is very good.

I have more to say. I am listening. So, I hope to lose myself in serving you. I will not pursue the world and all that it has to offer. I will live a life that is fully devoted to you. I will bear fruit for your kingdom. I will bring glory to your name as you work in and through me. Yes, you will. So, I have found myself by losing myself in loving and following and serving you. That is very good. Yes, it is. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, I have come after you. I have given my life to you. You are my Savior and Lord. I will go and do whatever you ask of me. I will deny myself, take up the cross, and follow and serve you. Help me to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. Amen

Key Question… What are some specific things that the Lord has asked you to go and do for Him?

Living It Out… Deny yourself, take up the cross, follow and serve Christ, so you will be rewarded for what you have done in this life.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that you will be rewarded for denying yourself, taking up the cross, and following and serving Christ.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how you are denying yourself, taking up the cross, and serving Christ.

Prayer To Bless Others… May you deny yourself, take up the cross, and follow and serve Christ.

All His Benefits

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 103 - Psalm 103:1-5 - All His Benefits - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 103 – Psalm 103:1-5 – All His Benefits – Growing As Disciples

Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.  Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits–  who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,  who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion,  who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. Psalm 103:1-5 (NIV)

Richly Blessed

How are you doing? That is quite a broad question. Are you happy in life? Are you thankful and grateful for all I have done for you? Do you remember all I have done for you? Are you encouraged by all I have done for you? Is your faith growing stronger because you can recognize and remember all I have done for you? Do you have greater peace and hope and joy because all I have done for you is firmly fixed in your heart and mind? Now, I better understand your question. That is good.

So, how are you doing? You are doing well. Me, not so much. What do you mean by that? I have been making a serious mistake. How so? I have not recognized and remembered all that you have done for me. I have not continually given thanks and praise to you for all that you have done for me. I have not lived a life filled with gratitude. Why is that a serious mistake? Well, first I know that you desire that I give thanks and praise to you. You want me to be thankful and grateful. Yes, I do. What will happen to you if you are not thankful and grateful. What will happen to you if you lightly regard all I have done for you? What will you have less of when you fail to recognize and remember and give thanks for my many blessings on your life? I will have less hope and peace and joy when I don’t recognize and remember and give thanks and praise to you for all you have done for me. Why is that? I will forget how active and present you are in my life. I will lose track of how much you do love and care for me. That is true. What else? I will have less faith when I don’t recognize and remember and give thanks and praise to you for your many blessings. That is also true. Why is that? Recognizing and remembering how much you have been helping me in the past and present will give me greater faith to rely on you for my future. I will know, without a doubt, that you are with me to help me. You love and care for me. Your hand is on me. Your favor rests on me. Your kindness and mercy and love has been with me and will be with me in the future. That is true. Will you give me thanks and praise to me for how I have richly blessed your life? Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good.

Lord, you have richly blessed my life. You have forgiven my sins and cleansed my unrighteousness. You have brought your healing into my life. You redeemed my life from the pit. You have given me good gifts. You have renewed my life. Thank you so much. Amen

Key Question… What would you like to give thanks and praise to God for right now?

Living It Out… Give thanks and praise to God for all the numerous things He has done for you.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that your hope and joy and faith will increase as you give thanks to God for all He has done for you.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how you are continually giving thanks and praise to the Lord.

Prayer To Bless Others… May your soul praise the Lord for all He has done for you.

My Soul Thirsts For You

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 103 - Psalm 63:1-8 - My Soul Thirsts For You - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 103 – Psalm 63:1-8 – My Soul Thirsts For You – Growing As Disciples

O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.  I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory.  Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.  I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands.  My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.  On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night.  Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings.  My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me. Psalm 63:1-8 (NIV)

Satisfy Your Soul

You look thirsty to me. There is no question about that. I have this thirst in my soul that only you can satisfy. How do you know that to be true? Believe me, I have foolishly tried to satisfy my soul with just about everything other than you. I’m not proud of that fact. I tried to satisfy my soul with comfort and pleasure. I tried to satisfy my soul with possessions and power. I tried to satisfy my soul accomplishments and achievements. I tried to satisfy my soul with honor and applause from the world. I tried to satisfy my soul with human relationships. You get the idea. You name it, I’ve tried it. Nothing will fill the emptiness of the soul, other than you. The soul will be left desperately thirst without you. It pleases me that you have come to know this to be true. There is no doubt within you, I am the satisfier of the soul. I am the only one who can fill that emptiness inside of you. There is a God shaped void in each soul, that only I can fill. Yes, I now know that, without a doubt.

Will you allow me to satisfy your soul? How will you allow me to satisfy your soul? Those are two very good questions. Yes, I will allow you to satisfy my soul. But how do you satisfy a soul? I know. I will earnestly seek you. I will draw near to you. I will come into your presence with praise and worship. I will express my love and devotion to you. Moment by moment, day by day, month by month and year by year, I will live I an intimate relationship with you. I will hold on to you as you hold on to me, as we walk through life together. Surely then, you will continually satisfy my soul. There is no doubt about it. Yes, as you live in an intimate relationship with me, I will continue to satisfy your soul. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, I have this thirst for you that is in my soul. If I were to be crawling across a sun scorched desert floor, without water, I would not have a greater thirst. I will earnestly seek you. You will have all my praise and worship and love. Satisfy this thirst in me. Amen

Key Question… Why will God alone be able to satisfy the thirst that is in your soul?

Living It Out… Earnestly seek God so that He can satisfy the thirst that is in your soul.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that God will satisfy the thirst in your soul as you earnestly seek Him.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how God has satisfied your soul as you have earnestly sought Him.

In God Alone

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 102 - 62:5-8 - In God Alone - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 102 – 62:5-8 – In God Alone – Growing As Disciples

Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him.  He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.  My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge.  Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. Selah Psalm 62:5-8 (NIV)

Find Rest

Is that what you want? Do you want to find rest for your soul? What a timely question. Why is that? I don’t know when I have felt more tired. So yes, I do want to find rest for my soul. What must you do if you want to find rest for your soul? I must slowdown that is for sure. There is too much hurry in my life. I’m guessing that you want me to come to quietly rest in your presence. You want me to wait before you. That is a very good guess. What will happen to you when you quietly rest and silently wait in my presence? I will slow down. I will stop the flurry of activity that is my life. I will draw near to you. I will take time to hear from you. I will listen attentively to you. I will place all my hope and trust in you. I will stop relying on myself. I will come to know that you are my rock and fortress. You are my place of refuge. Storms my swirl about me. But in you I can find rest. In you there is hope. I can take shelter in you when no matter what storm might rage around me. In you, there is peace. In you, there is calm. In you, I will never be shaken. That is true.

What will you do when you come to rest in my presence? Besides, listening to you? Yes, besides listening to me. I don’t want to move too quickly past the idea of listening attentively to you. Why is that? I can never listen too long or too carefully to you. That is true. But I want to know what else you will also do as your rest in my presence. I will pour my heart to you. I will turn all my worries into prayers to you. I will lay my burdens at your feet. I will open my heart and mind and life to you. I will lay my soul bare before you.

What will I do for you as you come to rest in my presence? You will heal me. You will help me. You will revive and refresh and renew me as I take refuge in you. Yes, I will. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, I have not always placed all my hope and trust in you. Sometimes, I have relied on something or someone other than you. What a foolish mistake! Forgive me. Thank you for being my rock and fortress and refuge. I will place all my hope and trust in you. Amen

Key Question… When have you made the mistake of relying on someone or something other than the Lord?

Living It Out… Find rest in God alone who is your rock and fortress and refuge.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that you will find rest in God alone who is your rock and refuge and fortress.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how you have been finding rest in God alone.

His Way Pure

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 100 - Psalm 119:9-16 - His Way Pure - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 100 – Psalm 119:9-16 – His Way Pure – Growing As Disciples

How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word.  I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands.  I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.  Praise be to you, O LORD; teach me your decrees.  With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth.  I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches.  I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways.  I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word. Psalm 119:9-16 (NIV)

Keep Your Way Pure

Is that what you want? Is what do I want? Do you want to keep your way pure? Do you want a heart and mind and life that seeks me? Do you want a mind that thinks my thoughts? Do you want a mouth that speaks my heart? Do you want a life that does what is good and right and pleasing to me? Yes, I want all these things to be true of me. Do you have any idea how I will make you able to live this kind of life? I know one thing for certain. What’s that? Living this kind of life is not possible without you changing my heart and transforming my mind. You are very wise to know that this is true. How will I change your heart and transform your mind? What tool will do that work in you? Your word will change my heart and transform my mind. What will you do with my word so that it can do its work in you? I will hide your word in my heart. Your word will teach and train me. Your word will help me to not sin against you. Your Holy Spirit will take your word and use it like a sword to fight in me, with me, for me and through me. Your word will make me able to resist temptation. Your word will make me able to withstand evil. Yes, my word and the power of my Holy Spirit will use my word to change your heart, transform you mind and guide your life. I am thankful for your word. It is my joy to meet with you in your word. Having your word is far better than having great riches. I will delight in your word. I will not neglect your word. I will not stray from your word. Your word will be ever before me as I walk through life with you. Guard and guide my life with your word. Yes, I will. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, do I always live according to your word? Do I always hide your word deeply in my heart? Do I always keep my way pure? No, I don’t. Forgive me. But hiding your word in my heart, living by it, and keeping my way pure is the desire and direction of my life. Amen

Key Question… How is it now your practice to regularly hide God’s word in your heart?

Living It Out… Hide God’s word deeply in your heart so that you will be able to live according to it and keep your way pure.

Knowledge Of God

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 100 - Proverbs 2:1-6 - Knowledge Of God - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 100 – Proverbs 2:1-6 – Knowledge Of God – Growing As Disciples

My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you,  turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding,  and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding,  and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure,  then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.  For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:1-6 (NIV)

Know Me

Do you want to know me? I can think of nothing I want more in life. It is the desire of my heart to know you. I don’t just want to know about you either. That is not the same as knowing you. I really want to know you. I don’t want to know you a little bit either. I want to know you intimately. I want to walk through life with you. I want to follow you to wherever you lead me. I want to do whatever you ask of me. How do you think you will come to know me? I will need to make knowing you the priority of my life. I need to seek your insight and understanding and wisdom as if it were more valuable than silver or gold or any other hidden treasure, which by the way, it is. It pleases me that you have this understanding. I only understand what you have revealed to me. The riches of this life do not compare with hearing from you. So, I will draw near to you. I will quiet myself before you. I will listen to all that you have to say to me. How will I speak to you? When will I speak to you? How will you learn to hear my voice? I will meet with you in your word. I will store your word in my heart. I will learn to hear your voice as I listen to your word. What will my word do for you? Your word will give me insight and understanding and wisdom. Your word will give me a deep respect and a reverent awe of you. Your word will change my heart. Your word will transform my mind. Your word will guide the course of my life. Your word will make me able to know and love and follow and serve you. Your word will make me able to live a life that is good and right and pleasing to you. Yes, my word will do all these things in, for, and through you as you allow it to be stored in you. That I will do. That will be very good.

Lord, I will turn my ear to you. I will listen to your voice. I will store up your commands in me. I will listen to your wisdom. I will follow your instruction. I will cry out for insight and understanding that only comes from you. Help me to know and love and follow you. Amen

Minds Set

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 99 - Romans 8:5-8 - Minds Set - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 99 – Romans 8:5-8 – Minds Set – Growing As Disciples

Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.  The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God. Romans 8:5-8 (NIV)

Mind Set

What is your mind set? What are you allowing your mind to think? Is your mind set on the flesh? Are you thinking about sinful desires? Those are tough questions. You don’t beat around the bush. You get right to the point. I see that there is a choice before me. What choice do you have before you? I must choose what I will set my heart and mind and life on. There is no middle ground. My heart and mind and life will either be set on the flesh or on the Spirit. If I set my heart and mind and life on the flesh, I will be choosing a life not worth living. I will be choosing worldly and fleshly and sinful thoughts. Those thoughts will lead to worldly and fleshly and sinful words and actions. Choosing to live that kind of life will lead to death. There is no peace or hope or joy in that life. No, there is not. Leading that kind of life would make me hostile to you. A mind set on worldly and fleshly and sinful thoughts cannot please you. No, it cannot. Nothing could be farther away from the desire of my heart and mind and life. What is the desire of your heart and mind and life? I want to live a life that is pleasing to you. I want to think your thoughts, speak your words and take your actions. I want to go where you guide me. I want to do what you ask of me. I want to live the life you have given to me. I want to live in your peace. I want to experience your joy. I want to know and love and follow and serve you with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. In every way and on every day, I want to set my mind on what the Spirit desires. Those are very good desires. I’m sure that they come from you. Yes, they do. I know that you will help me to live the life that you have given me the desire to live. That is true. That is sure. That is certain. Thank you, Lord.

Holy Spirit, no longer will I allow my mind to be set on the flesh and sinful desires. Help me to set my mind on you. Help me to set my mind on what you desire. Give me a Spirit controlled mind, filled with your life and peace. Help me to submit to and please God. Amen

Key Question… Why will you need to continually choose what you allow your mind to be set on?

Living It Out… Set your mind on the Spirit so that you will be able to submit to and please God.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that the Holy Spirit will help you to set your mind on what He desires.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how setting your mind on the Spirit is bringing you life and peace.

Prayer To Bless Others… May you set your mind on what the Spirit desires.
