Discipleship Study – 365 Days Of Guidance – Day 37 – Psalm 103:1-5 – Renewed Like The Eagle’s – Growing As Disciples

Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits– who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. Psalm 103:1-5 (NIV)

Don’t Forget

Does all that is within you praise me? Do you think about all that I have done for you? Do you remember to give thanks to me? Not all that is within me gives praise to you. A lot of the time, I don’t think about or remember all that you have done for me. I’m sorry about that. I ask for your forgiveness for being so forgetful. You have my forgiveness. I am thankful for all that you have done for me. I want to live with the conscious awareness of all that you have done, are doing, and will do for me. Keeping my heart and mind on your activity in my life will only bring joy and blessing into my heart. Why is that? Living more aware of your activity will help me to know that you are always with me. Living more aware of your activity will help me to join you in what you are doing all around me. Living more aware of your activity will give me joy and fill me with the desire to thank and praise you. Yes, it will. I don’t want to live in a fog of forgetfulness. I don’t want to be blind to your working. I don’t want to be empty and joyless and ungrateful because I can’t see and remember your blessings. I need your help. Open my eyes. Help me what you have done, are doing, and will do in my life and in the world around me. Is that a prayer? Is that what you are asking of me? Yes, it is the desire of my heart to know you, to walk in your ways, to join you in what you are doing, and to live a life filled with joy and thankfulness. I want my life to give you glory, and to overflow with thanksgiving and praise to you.

If that is your prayer then here is what I want you to do. I’m listening. Yes, I can see that. At the end of each day reflect on what you have to be thankful for. Consider all that I have done. Make a list if you must. Then give thanks and praise to me. In this way you will learn to see and remember all that I have done. In this way you will learn to give thanks and praise to me. As you give thanks and praise to me you will be filled with joy. You will become aware of what I am doing. You will join me in the work that I have prepared for you to do. Will you do what I am asking of you? Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good.

Lord, you have blessed my life. You have pulled me out of darkness and redeemed my life. You have forgiven my sins and cleansed my unrighteousness. You have renewed my life and granted me the desires of my heart. I give all my thanks and praise to you. Amen

Remembering

That is what I will do. What will you do? I will remember all that you have done for me. I won’t quickly forget what you have done for me. I won’t leave what you have done for me behind me as a distant memory. What benefit is there in remembering all that I have done for you? So, tell me now, what have I done for you? You rescued me from a life without you. You pulled me out of the muck and mire and set me on solid ground. You led me out of the darkness of this world and brought me into the light of your presence. You redeemed and healed my bruised and battered and broken life. You revived and refreshed and renewed and restored my soul. You have filled me with your Spirit. You set me on the path of life so I could love and follow and serve you. You adopted me into your family. You have made me to be your child. You gave my life purpose and meaning and hope. You have made me able to bear fruit for your kingdom. You have made me able to bring glory to your name. My old life without you is gone. My new life with you is here. You are now leading and guiding my life. My future is in your hands. Yes, I have done and am doing all these things for you.

What do you have to say about all that I have done for you? I am grateful and thankful, beyond any words that I can express. It is my joy to live my life with and for you. Thank you, for your kindness, mercy and love. You have filled my life with your goodness. I love you with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. That is very good.

Forget Not All His Benefits

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - The Sacramental Life - Day 350 - Psalm 103-1-5 - Forget Not All His Benefits - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – The Sacramental Life – Day 350 – Psalm 103-1-5 – Forget Not All His Benefits – Growing As Disciples

Not Forget

That is something that I need to remember. What do you need to remember? I need to remember to not forget your benefits. Is that a difficult task? Is that hard to accomplish? It must be. Why do you think it must be difficult and hard to not forget my benefits? Well, the Bible is filled with people who forgot and even took your benefits for granted. Forgetting and taking your benefits for granted seems as common today as it was back then. It should not be so. I wish it were not true. I am embarrassed to say that I haven’t praised and thanked you enough for who you are and all that you have done for me. I know that failing to give you praise and thanks for your goodness is a sin which I willingly and freely confess to you now. Forgive my lack of praise and thanks to you. You are forgiven. What would you like to change? I would like to make praising and thanking you a regular part of my daily prayers to you. That will be very good.

Let me ask you a few questions? Go right ahead, I’m listening. Do you sometimes feel weary and worn out? Do you sometimes lack hope and peace and joy in your life? Would you like to be refreshed and revived and restored to full strength? You know my answer to each one of your questions. Yes, I often feel weary and worn out. Yes, I would like my life to overflow with hope and peace and joy. Yes, I would like to be refreshed, revived, and restored to full strength. I would like to run and not grow weary. I would like to walk and not faint. I would like to be like an eagle soaring in mid-flight. I have no doubt about that. Do you know what you are missing? Yes, I do. I lack all these things in my life because I am not abundantly praising and thanking you. That’s right. Daily, enter my presence with praise and thanksgiving and I will refresh and revive and restore you. As you praise and thank me, I will fill your life with hope and peace and joy. That I will do. That will be very good.

Lord, I know how easy it is to forget and fail to give praise and thanks to you for who you are and all you have done for me. Daily, in my prayers, I will remember all that you have done for me. Fill my life with joy as I give abundant thanks and praise to you. Amen

Key Question…  How are you making sure that you are regularly giving praise and thanks to God for His goodness to you?

Living It Out…  Make praising and thanking God a regular part of your daily prayer life.

Seeing It Happen…  Have faith that God is worthy of all your praise and thanks because of who He is and all He has done for you.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how you are continually praising and thanking God for His goodness.

Prayer To Bless Others… May you praise God and remember all that He has done for you.

All His Benefits

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 103 - Psalm 103:1-5 - All His Benefits - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 103 – Psalm 103:1-5 – All His Benefits – Growing As Disciples

Richly Blessed

How are you doing? That is quite a broad question. Are you happy in life? Are you thankful and grateful for all I have done for you? Do you remember all I have done for you? Are you encouraged by all I have done for you? Is your faith growing stronger because you can recognize and remember all I have done for you? Do you have greater peace and hope and joy because all I have done for you is firmly fixed in your heart and mind? Now, I better understand your question. That is good.

So, how are you doing? You are doing well. Me, not so much. What do you mean by that? I have been making a serious mistake. How so? I have not recognized and remembered all that you have done for me. I have not continually given thanks and praise to you for all that you have done for me. I have not lived a life filled with gratitude. Why is that a serious mistake? Well, first I know that you desire that I give thanks and praise to you. You want me to be thankful and grateful. Yes, I do. What will happen to you if you are not thankful and grateful. What will happen to you if you lightly regard all I have done for you? What will you have less of when you fail to recognize and remember and give thanks for my many blessings on your life? I will have less hope and peace and joy when I don’t recognize and remember and give thanks and praise to you for all you have done for me. Why is that? I will forget how active and present you are in my life. I will lose track of how much you do love and care for me. That is true. What else? I will have less faith when I don’t recognize and remember and give thanks and praise to you for your many blessings. That is also true. Why is that? Recognizing and remembering how much you have been helping me in the past and present will give me greater faith to rely on you for my future. I will know, without a doubt, that you are with me to help me. You love and care for me. Your hand is on me. Your favor rests on me. Your kindness and mercy and love has been with me and will be with me in the future. That is true. Will you give me thanks and praise to me for how I have richly blessed your life? Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good.

Lord, you have richly blessed my life. You have forgiven my sins and cleansed my unrighteousness. You have brought your healing into my life. You redeemed my life from the pit. You have given me good gifts. You have renewed my life. Thank you so much. Amen

Praise The Lord

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 62 - Psalm 103:1-5 - Praise The Lord - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 62 – Psalm 103:1-5 – Praise The Lord – Growing As Disciples

Reflect And Remember

Do you take time to reflect and remember all I have done for you? Do you consciously consider how I have richly blessed your life? Do you remember that I have forgiven your sin and cleansed your unrighteousness? Do you know that I have healed what was your bruised and battered and broken life? Can you think back to when I redeemed your life? I pulled you out of a pit of muck and mire. I set your feet on solid ground. I have shown you my loving kindness. You have felt my compassion. You have received my mercy. Is it not true that I have richly blessed your life? Have I not satisfied your desires? Have I not revived, refreshed and renewed your life? Is all this lost and forgotten in the busyness of your life? Yes Lord, I will reflect and remember all you have done for me. It is true that the noise and busyness of my life could cause me to fail to remember all you have done for me. That would be tragic. That would be a huge mistake. That will not happen to me. Your great and many blessings fill me with gratitude. Your kindness and mercy and love fill my heart and mind and life with praise. Always do I want to be grateful. Always do I want to be thankful. Always do I want to give you all the praise and honor and glory you so richly deserve. That is very good.

There are a few things I know about praise. There is something more that I would like to say. Go ahead, I’m listening. I was meant to give you praise. Giving you praise is part of my make-up, it’s part of my being. If I want to live a healthy and whole and joyful life, I will give you praise. If I want my heart and mind and life to be revived and refreshed and renewed, I will give you praise. There is healing in giving you praise. There is hope in giving you praise. There is confidence and comfort and confidence in giving you praise. My faith is increased as I give you praise. My boldness to go and do what you ask of me is empowered as I give praise and thanksgiving to you. If I want to live in an intimate relationship with you, it will be filled with thanksgiving and praise. You know more than a few things about praise. Yes, and I will praise and thank you with all that is within me. That will be very good. Thank you, Lord. Praise you Lord.

Lord, I will take a pause. I will reflect. I will look back and remember all you have done for me. You have richly blessed my life. You have forgiven me. You have healed me. You have shown me your love and compassion. All praise and honor belong to you. Amen

Forget Not

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Prayer - Psalm 103:1-5 - Forget Not - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Prayer – Psalm 103:1-5 – Forget Not – Growing As Disciples

Remember

I don’t ever want to forget. I want always to remember all that you have done for me. I don’t want to be thoughtless. I don’t want to be callous. I don’t want to be forgetful. I want to think deeply about all that you have done for me. I want to return to give you thanks and praise for your many blessings. You have given me so much. You have richly blessed my life. How? How have you blessed my life? Yes, that is my question. I’m sure you know. Yes, I do know. It will be a good thing for you to remember all that I have done for you. Do you have a specific reason in mind? Yes, I do. But, you tell me why it is a good thing for you to remember all that I have done for you.

You like to hear me express my thanks and praise to you. Acknowledging your love and compassion is one way for me to tell you that I am relying on you. I know that my help comes from you. I have not redeemed my life from the pit. I did not pull myself off the road that led away from you. I could do nothing to earn your forgiveness. I could not scrub myself clean of my unrighteousness. I could not heal my own diseases. I could adopt myself into your family. Only you could make me to be your child. You have lavishly and generously demonstrated your compassion and love to me. That’s true. You have heard my prayers. You have both given and granted the desires of my heart. Like what? What desires of your heart have I given and granted? It is the desire of my heart to live in an intimate relationship with you. I want to love you with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. I want to live my life with and for you. I want to know you. I want to listen to your voice. I want to go where you guide me. I want to do what you ask of me. In every way, I want to do what is pleasing to you. I also want to give all my thanks and praise to you. I want to acknowledge every way that you have blessed my life. None of these desires have come from me. No, they have not. You have both given and are granting these desires in my heart. Yes, I am.

Lord, you have done so much for me. I almost don’t know where to begin to give thanks and praise to you. Except, I know I can start with your biggest gift. You have forgiven my sins and cleansed me of all my righteousness. You redeemed my life from the pit. Amen
