AND JESUS summoned to Him His twelve disciples and gave them power and authority over unclean spirits, to drive them out, and to cure all kinds of disease and all kinds of weakness and infirmity. Matthew 10:1 (AMP)

Calling

I have called you to come to me. I have called you to be taught by me. I have called you to learn from me. There is a time to rest in my presence. There is a time to grow up in me. There is a time to be trained by me. I will mold and shape your life. I will make you into the person I want you to be. My work in your life will never cease. Day by day you will learn from me. Day by day you will be trained by me. Day by day you will become more and more like me. You will want to know me. You will love me with all your heart and mind and soul and strength. There will be no place you won’t go for me. There will be nothing you won’t do for me. You will want to go and do my will. What you have said is the desire of my heart. I do love you. I do want to go and do your will. I do want to become like you in every way on every day as I follow and serve you. Let’s talk more about your serving me.

You will wholeheartedly serve me. I have called you to go out for me. You will leave your comfort. You will let go of your pleasure. You will go and do all that I ask of you. You will be my witness. You will shine brightly for me in the world. I will use you. My hand will be on you. I will go with you. You will bear fruit for my kingdom. You will bring glory to my name. I will give you my power. You will have my authority. I will work in and through your life. You will go out to pray for the bruised and battered and broken. You will have my heart of compassion. You will pray for healing for those who are sick. You will pray for deliverance for all those who are held captive. You will see me at work. Others will be drawn to me through the work I will accomplish in and through your life. Send me Lord. Use me Lord. I am ready, willing and able to go and serve you. Yes, I will send you. Yes, I will use you. Yes, I will make you able to go and serve me.

Lord, I hear your call. I will take on your assignment. I know you are asking me to go and pray for the needs of others. I will allow you to use me. Give me your power and authority to pray for healing and deliverance of all those who are in need. Amen

Bring Life

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Healing - Proverbs 4:20-22 - Bring Life - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Healing – Proverbs 4:20-22 – Bring Life – Growing As Disciples

My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body. Proverbs 4:20-22 (NLT)

Penetrate Your Heart

I want to live the life that you have called me to live. I know that you want me to live a full and vibrant and healthy life that bears fruit for your kingdom and brings glory to your name. Yes, I do. I know that on my own, by myself, I cannot live that kind of life. Why is that? I’m sure that you know why. Yes, I do. But, I would like you to tell me why you can’t live a full, vibrant, healthy and fruit bearing life without me and my help. Well, first of all, I have no desire to live my life without you. I have been there and done that before. My life without you was a bruised and battered and broken life. On my own, I walked on a dark and depressing path. I was lost and without hope in the world. You, rescued me from all the that. Yes, I did. You set me on a new path. You bound up my wounds and healed my broken life. You gave me a completely new life to live. Yes, I did.

You know something you haven’t told me yet. What is it? Even though you have given me a completely new life to live in you, I must still live it. What do you mean by that? Well, it is possible, it seems, at least to me, that I could live less than the life you want me to live, if I do not do what you ask of me. You’re right about that. But what, do you have in mind? You want to continue to change me every day as I love, follow and serve you. That’s right. You want to make me to be like you. You want me to think like you thought. You want me to speak like you spoke. You want me to do what you did. Yes, I do. That cannot be a work that I do for myself. That’s right. You are the one that will change my heart and transform my mind. You are the one that will make me able to follow and serve you. I will do that for you. Yes, I know and for that I am very thankful.

How will I change your heart and transform your mind? There is no secret there, your word is very clear on the subject. Yes, it is. You will change my heart and transform my mind as I allow your word to penetrate my heart. This is where I have a responsibility. Yes, you do. I must allow your word to penetrate my heart. That’s right. If I do not allow your word to penetrate my heart, then I will live less than the life that you have called me to live. I don’t want that. No, you don’t. Will you meet with me in my word? Will you allow my word to penetrate your heart and mind and life? Yes Lord, I will. Then you will have my fullness of health in your life and my healing in your body. You will live the life that I have called you to live. You will do what is pleasing to me.

Lord, when I was living apart from you, I was living unhealthy life. I went where I shouldn’t have gone and did what I shouldn’t have done. You rescued me from that life. Thank you that your word is penetrating my heart and giving me a new healthy life in you. Amen

The Tongue Of The Wise

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Healing - Proverbs 12:18 - The Tongue Of The Wise - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Healing – Proverbs 12:18 – The Tongue Of The Wise – Growing As Disciples

Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. Proverbs 12:18 (NIV)

Reckless Words

Well, I have blown it. What have you blown? I have spoken reckless words. I have foolishly spoken words that pierced and cut others. There is no doubt about that. I can’t tell you the number of times that I have foolishly said something that I deeply regretted. It is hard to undo the damage done by reckless words foolishly spoken. Yes, it is. But, you can change. How can I change? How can I stop thinking and speaking and acting foolishly? I’m glad that you realize that all your thoughts and words and actions are tied together. Do you know why that is? Yes, I do. Tell me. Whatever is on my heart and in my mind cannot be hidden. What is in my heart and mind will eventually come out in my words and actions. That’s true. In fact, my words and actions are a very good barometer of the condition of my heart and mind. That is also true.

So, what needs to be changed? We can’t start with my words and actions that’s for sure. I need you to change my heart and transform my mind if I hope to think and speak and act wisely. Yes, you do. Let’s take a step back. I want to ask you a couple questions. Why do you want to think and speak and act wisely? I want to live a life that is pleasing to you. I want my thoughts and words and actions to be in alignment with your will and your ways. I want to think and speak and act just as you would in whatever situation I find myself in. That’s very good. What else? I don’t want my words to harm others. I want my words to bring healing into the lives of others. I don’t want to regret my words. I want to be thankful for the words that you have given me to speak. Ultimately, I want my words to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. Recklessly spoken foolish words will do nothing but hinder my fruit bearing and bring dishonor to your name. I definitely don’t want either of those to be true of the life I am living. That’s good.

So, what will you ask of me? I will ask you to change my heart and transform my mind. I will ask you to give me wise thoughts and words and actions to think and speak and do for you. I will also ask you to help me to speak words that bring healing into the lives of others, so I can bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. Those are good prayers. Keep on praying them to me. I will hear and answer your prayers and give you what you are asking of me.

Lord, I have spoken recklessly many times. I have pierced and cut others with foolish and thoughtless words. Forgive me. Change me. Give me wisdom. Help me to think and speak and act wisely. Give me wise words to speak that will bring healing to others. Amen

Health To Your Body

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Healing - Proverbs 3:5-8- Health To Your Body - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Healing – Proverbs 3:5-8- Health To Your Body – Growing As Disciples

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. Proverbs 3:5-8 (NIV)

Healthy Life

I would like to live a healthy life. I would like to be a whole person. What’s the alternative? I know what living an unhealthy life looks like. I know what it means to be a broken person. How so? In the past, I lived an unhealthy life that caused me to be a broken person. That’s not good. No, it’s not.

What led you to live an unhealthy and broken life? That is a good question with a surprising answer. What’s that? I led myself to live such a life. I trusted in myself. I relied on my own understanding. I was self-reliant, self-centered and self-indulgent. I went where I wanted to go. I did what I wanted to do. I bounced around from one meaningless endeavor to another.  You might say, I walked a crooked path that wasted all my time and consumed all my energy. My life was filled with pain and suffering and brokenness. One thing became very clear to me. What’s that? I had no purpose or meaning or direction to my life. My life was without hope and joy. My unhealthy life wore me ought. I was tired to the bone. That’s not good. No, it’s not.

What changed? How have you traded in your old unhealthy life for one that is healthy and vibrant, and hope filled? I stopped trusting in myself. I quit relying on my own understanding. I began to admit the obvious. Which was? I don’t know it all. I need wisdom. I need understanding. I need direction. Obviously, I need you. I was not made to live my life apart from you. Nothing about my life works without you being my Savior and Lord. Only you can lead me on a straight path. Only you can give me wisdom. So, I turned my life over to you. I began to acknowledge you. I began to desire to live according to you will. I wanted to walk in your ways. What else? I began to have a healthy fear of you that helped me to shun evil. I wanted to live a life that was pleasing to you. I want to love you with all my heart and mind and soul and strength because you first loved me. You gave yourself to me. Now, I am giving myself to you. Now, I am living the healthy life that you have given me to live. That is very good. I know.

Lord, I will trust in you with all my heart. I will not rely on my own understanding. Instead I will acknowledge you in all my ways. Make my path straight as I humbly follow you. I will fear you and shun evil, so I can live the healthy life you have for me to live. Amen
