Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 68 -2 Timothy 3:16-17 – Thoroughly Equipped – Growing As Disciples

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)

Preparing You

Why have I given you my word? What do you think I want to accomplish in you by my word? You have given me your word to make yourself known to me. Without your word I would know very little about you. You want to teach me your will and show me your ways. You want to rebuke me when I’m wrong. You want to correct me and set me on the path of righteousness as I love, follow and serve you. Yes, I do.

What must you do in order for my word to accomplish my work in you? I’m not exactly sure what you mean. What will short circuit my word working in your life? I need to spend time meeting with you in your word. I need to let your word dwell in me richly. I need to meditate on your word day and night. What else? I need to hear and obey all that you are saying to me.  I need to put into practice whatever you show me. I need to be a hearer and a doer of your word. Yes, that’s right.  As your word dwells in me, I will be strengthened to go where you guide me to do what you ask of me. I will be able to stand against temptations in this world and the evil that the devil throws at me. Yes, you will.

Is my word just for you? Do I have another very important purpose in mind that I want to accomplish in you, by my word? Your word is not just for me. You want to change my heart and transform my mind and guide my life by your word. Yes, I do. Then what? You do have another very important purpose in mind. What’s that? You want to use me for your kingdom and glory. You want me to bear an abundance of fruit for you.  Yes, I do. So, what is my word doing in you now? Your word is preparing and equipping me to do the work that you have given me to do for you. You have good works planned for me to do for you. Yes, I do. Whatever you guide me to do, you will prepare me to do. Yes, I will.

So why is it so important that you spend time with me in my word? You will use your word to change who I am. You will use your word to prepare me to do what you have given me to do. Yes, I will.

Lord, I delight to hear your word. Your word has changed the course of my life. Your word is teaching and training me to live the life you have called me to live. Thank you that your word is equipping me to do the work you have given me to do for you.  Amen

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.      2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)

Thoroughly Equipped

That is what I want. What do you want? I want to be ready for your use. I want to be thoroughly equipped. I want to be able to do every good work you have prepared for me to do for you. That is a very good desire you have in you. How will you be prepared and made ready for my use? What will I use to mold and shape you? What will I use to teach and train you? What will I use to guard and guide you? Are these difficult questions for you to answer? No, they are not difficult questions for me to answer. You will use your word to make me ready for your use. You will use your word to change my heart and transform my mind. Your word will transform the thoughts of my mind, words of my mouth and deeds of my life. I will teach your word. Most importantly, I will put your word into practice. What do you mean by that? I will live my life according to your word. I will think and speak and act according to your word. To sum all my thoughts up, I will grab ahold of your word so your word can grab ahold of me. Without a doubt, your word will be the foundation on which every aspect of entire life is built. That will be very good.

How have I used my word to fight for you? You have used your word like a sword. How so? Your Holy Spirit taken your word and used it like a sword to fight in me, with me, for me and through me. Your word has helped me to resist temptation and stand against evil. You have taught me with your word. You have rebuked and corrected me with your word. You have used your word to train me to live a life that is good and right and pleasing to you. Everything that you have done, are doing and will do in and for and through me has been according to your word. So, I will continue to richly welcome your word into my heart and mind and life. Breathed Out By God

The Word Centered Life - Day 13 - 2 Timothy 3:16-17 - Breathed Out By God - Growing As Disciples

The Word Centered Life – Day 13 – 2 Timothy 3:16-17 – Breathed Out By God – Growing As Disciples

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (ESV)

Thoroughly Equipped

That is what I want. That is what I need. That is what I cannot do without. What do you want and need and cannot do without? I need to be thoroughly equipped by you to do the work you have given me to do for you. Without being equipped by you, I will be unable to do the work you have given me to do for you. It is very good for you to know this to be true. How did you come to learn this to be true? I have failed many times by trying to do your work under my own power without your training. I have often run ahead of you and failed to rely on you. That is not good. But you have helped me to see the error of my own ways. How have I helped you to see the error of your own ways? For one, you have given me hopelessly large assignments that I couldn’t possibly accomplish without your help. Your assignments have drawn me to you. What you have asked of me, has caused me to cry out to you. The good work you have given me to do for you has required me to remain in your presence. I have met daily with you in your word. A very good choice. Your word has taught me what I have not known. Your word has reproofed any behavior in me that was not pleasing to you. You have corrected the way that I have thought and spoken and acted. You have helped me to live a life that is good and right and pleasing to you. You have helped me to walk away from darkness to live in your marvelous light. I have confessed my sin to you. You have forgiven my sins and cleansed my unrighteousness. Your word has made me able to resist temptation and fight against evil. In every way you have, are now, and will in the future train me in righteousness so that I can live the life you have given me to live for you. Yes, I will use my word to do my good work in you, so you will be able to do good work for me. How does that sound? That sounds fantastic. I welcome all your good work in me. That is very good.

There is one small, but very important point, I want to make clear to you. What’s that? My teaching and training will never end until we meet face to face. Don’t wait to begin serving me. I will train keep on training you as you do the good work, I have given you to do for me. You may never feel fully ready. You may never feel fully prepared. But I am asking you to start doing now the work I have given you. That I will do. That will be very good.

Lord, I want to be thoroughly equipped to do every good work that you give me to do for you. Use your word to teach, rebuke, correct, and train me to live a life that is good and right and pleasing to you. Help me to be thoroughly trained in righteousness. Amen

Key Question…  How are you allowing yourself to be thoroughly equipped by God’s word to do every good work for Him?

Living It Out…  Allow the Lord to use His word to thoroughly equip you to do the good work He has given you to do for Him.

Seeing It Happen…  Have faith that God’s word will thoroughly equip you to do the good work He has given you to do for Him.

Get Ready To Share…  Share with another person or your small group how God’s word has been equipping you to do His good work.

Prayer To Bless Others…  May you allow yourself to be thoroughly equipped by God’s word.

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – God’s Word – 2 Timothy 3:16-17 – God Breathed – Growing As Disciples

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)

Useful

I know that your word is God breathed because it comes from you. I know that you want to use your word to speak into my life. I know that your word is useful beyond what I could ever think, dream or even imagine. I know that your word is living and active. I know that your word has the power to change my heart and transform my mind. I know that your word will make me able to separate myself from evil and stand against temptation. I know that your Holy Spirit will use your word like a sword to fight in me, with me and for me. I know that you will use your word to mold and shape me into the person that you have created me to be. I know that you will use your word to make me able to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. You know a lot of important things that my word will do for you. Yes, I do.

Since you know that my word will do all these things for you, what will you do with my word? Every day I will set apart a time and a place to meet with you in your word. I will let your word dwell in me richly. I will read your word. I will study your word. I will meditate on your word. I will memorize your word. I will pray your word. I put your word into practice and I will teach your word to others. That will be very good. I would like to hear you say more about praying my word.

How will you pray my word? These verses are a very good example that provide a great opportunity for me to pray your word. How so? You are promising to use your word to teach, rebuke, correct, train and prepare me so that I will be thoroughly equipped for every good work. That’s right. I can turn each part of this promise into a prayer. I can turn the whole verse into a prayer. In my prayer to you, I would like to invite you to use your word to accomplish your purposes and fulfill your plans for my life. Use your word fully. Teach me, correct me, rebuke me, train me, and prepare me with your word. Use your word to remove anything from my life that is not pleasing to you. Use your word to make any course corrections that are needed in my life. Use your word to teach me what I do not know. Guard and guide my life with your word. Use your word to prepare me to do the work that you will give me to do for you. Use your word to help me to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name.  I am opening my heart and mind and life to your word. Speak Lord, I’m listening. That’s is very good. Keep on meeting with me in my word. I will hear and answer your prayer.

Lord, I am so very thankful for your word. I have set aside a daily time and place to meet with you in your word. I am eager to listen attentively to you. Use your word to teach, rebuke, correct, train and prepare me to live an abundant and fruitful life for you. Amen

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Discipleship - 2 Timothy 3:16-17- Thoroughly Equipped - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Discipleship – 2 Timothy 3:16-17- Thoroughly Equipped – Growing As Disciples

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)

Equipped

Do you want to be thoroughly equipped and completely prepared to go and fruitfully serve me? That’s not a hard question to answer. Yes, of course I want to be thoroughly equipped and completely prepared to serve you. Who would say otherwise? Who would say no to such a question? You are right, not many would use their words to say no to my question. Many however do not back up their words with their actions. I’m not following you. How will I thoroughly equip and completely prepare you to go and serve me? What tool will I use to teach you? How will I rebuke and correct you? What will I use to train you to live the life that I have called you to live? Those are good questions. Do you have any answers? Yes, I do. You will use your word to teach me. You will use your word to rebuke and correct me. You will use your word to train me to live the life that you have called me to live. That’s right. I will use my word to accomplish those purposes in your life.

Can someone honestly say that they want to be thoroughly equipped and completely prepared to go and fruitfully serve me if they spend almost no time meeting with me in my word? I think not. You are correct in your thought. How will you answer my question with both your words and your actions? I will set apart a special time and place to meet with you every day in your word. Every day? Why would it be necessary for you to meet with me every day in my word? That sounds like a trick question. Not really. I do expect an answer. I have asked you a very important question. I want your answer to be in the forefront of your heart and mind. Well, I’m positive that there isn’t a day that I don’t need to hear from you. Every day, I need to be taught by you. Every day, I need to be rebuked and corrected by you. Every day, I need to be trained to live the life that you are calling me to live. Every day, I need to be thoroughly equipped and completely prepared to go and fruitfully serve you. I don’t want anything to hinder your work in me. I don’t want anything to short circuit my preparation. So, I will meet with you every day in your word. That will be very good.

Lord, thank you for your word. Your word has taught me. Your word has rebuked and corrected me. Your word has trained me. Your word changed my heart, transformed my mind and guided my life. Your word has equipped me to go and fruitfully serve you. Amen

All Scripture Is God Breathed

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - God's Word - 2 Timothy 3:16-17 - All Scripture Is God Breathed - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – God’s Word – 2 Timothy 3:16-17 – All Scripture Is God Breathed – Growing As Disciples

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)

Thoroughly Equipped

Do you want me to teach and train you? Do you want me to guide and correct you? Do you want me to prepare and thoroughly equip you to do the works that I have given you to do for me? Yes, I want you to teach and train me. Yes, I want you to guide and correct me. Yes, I want you to thoroughly prepare and equip me to do the works you have given me to do for you. Who would ever say no to these kinds of questions from you? You would be surprised. How would I be surprised? Let’s talk some more about my teaching, training, guiding, correcting, preparing and equipping you. I’d like that.

How do you think you might sign up for my class? Where do you think our class might meet? What would be the textbook for my class? Now, I know how and why people might say no to your teaching, training, guiding, correcting, preparing and equipping them. Why is that? The work that you want to do in each and every one of your followers will require some very had work on their part. Why do you say that? I will answer your questions. Go right ahead. I will sign up for your class when I take your word off the shelf and open it. That’s right. We will meet together in your word. Your word is the location of our class. Yes, it is. Your textbook is your word. Right again. When your followers are unwilling to open your word they are saying no to you. They are saying no to your teaching and training. They are saying no to your guiding and correcting. They are saying no to your preparing and equipping them to do the good works that you have given them to do for you. Yes, you’re right.

What must you do if you really want to sign up for the work that I want to do in and through your life? What must you do if you really want to live the life that I have given you to live? What must you do if you really want to be able to bear fruit for my kingdom and bring glory to my name? I must meet with you in your word. How often must you meet with me in my word? Is there ever a day that I don’t need to be taught, trained, guided, corrected, prepared or equipped by you? You tell me. No, I need to meet everyday with you in your word. I need to welcome your work in and through my life every day. Will you meet with me in my word everyday? Yes Lord, I will.

Lord, thank you for your word. It is my delight to meet with you in your word. Use your word to teach and train me. Use your word to guide and correct me. Use your word to prepare and thoroughly equip me to do good works you have given me to do for you.  Amen
