Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – If – Romans 12:6-8 – God Has Given You – Growing As Disciples

In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly. Romans 12:6-8 (NLT)

Gifts

I have designed you. I have made you. I am molding and shaping you. I have given you gifts with which you can serve me. I have given you gifts with which you can serve others. You are a tool in my hand. My hand is on your life. I will use you for my purposes. I have a plan for your life that is very good. You will know me. You will walk in my ways. You will bear an abundance of fruit for my kingdom as you allow me to work in and through your life. That sounds very exciting to me. I want to be used by you.

Do you have any questions? I have several questions. How will I know the gifts that you have given to me? How will I understand how you want to use me? How will I know what to go and do for you? You will follow me. You will listen to me. You will go where I guide you. You will do what I ask of you. As you serve me you will begin to know the spiritual gifts that I have given to you. As you serve me you will also begin to know what are not your spiritual gifts. You must learn to say yes to me. You must learn to say yes to what fits the way I have designed you and will make use of the gifts I have given to you. Don’t think that you will always be doing what ideally suits you. You will serve me in many different ways as you follow me. It will be just as important for you to learn what does not fit you as what does fit you. Once you begin to know your spiritual gift, allow me to grow and develop and refine the spiritual gifts that I have given to you. Give yourself fully to growing in the use of your spiritual gifts. Do you understand what I am saying to you? Yes Lord, I understand.

I have one more thing to say to you. What’s that? I know you. Don’t look around and compare yourself with others. Be thankful for the gifts that I have given to you. Don’t wish you had the gifts that others have. I will powerfully use you with the gifts that I have given to you. You will have great joy as you bear an abundance of fruit for my kingdom and bring glory to my name. You can count on that. Yes Lord, I will.

Lord, thank you for helping me to discover my spiritual gifts. Guide me to where I can use my spiritual gifts. Grow and develop my spiritual gifts so I can bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. Thank your for the joy I have in serving you. Amen
