Hunger

I had this hunger within me. I felt empty. My life was meaningless. I felt hopelessness. No matter what I did, or what I tried I could not fill the void that was within me. I searched for answers. I went on a journey to find myself, whatever that meant, I’m not sure. I do know now, that finding myself was not the answer. There was nothing within me to find that would give me hope and meaning and purpose. I was living a self-sufficient, self-centered and self-indulgent life, all of which made it even more difficult for me to see what was missing in my life. I did not realize that the empty hole in my life was God shaped. I did not know that as I was searching for answers, you were pursuing me. I was thinking that I might find myself. You were knowing that one day I would reach rock bottom and cry out to you. Yes, I was watching and waiting for you to turn your life around and over to me. I knew that it would be just a matter of time before you would cry out to me to ask for my help. I know that the day would come when you would leave your self-sufficient, self-centered and self-indulgent life behind. You wanted something more. You wanted something else. You wanted something different. You wanted me.  Yes, I did. Yes, I do. That is very good.

You have done some very special things for me. You have given me this great gift. Tell me about it. You have given me this insatiable hunger for you. I hunger and thirst for you and the life that you have called me to live. I am filled with passion to want to know you. I am filled with desire to do your will. The things of this life mean nothing to me. You mean everything to me. It is the joy of my life to do what is pleasing to you. I want to go wherever you guide me. I want to do whatever you ask of me. You have filled my life with hope and meaning and purpose as I love, follow and serve you. I don’t know what tomorrow will hold. I don’t know all the plans you have for me. I don’t know the next step that you will guide me to take. I only know that I am following you. My life is in your hands. I am filled with a continual hunger for you, that you are continually satisfying. For that, I am thankful now and forever. That is very good.

Lord, there was an emptiness in my life. There was a big hole and empty void. It took me quite a while to figure out that you were the only one who could fill my empty life. Thank you for giving me a continual hunger for you, that you are continually satisfying. Amen
