Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – The Mind – 2 Corinthians 4:4-6- Blinded The Minds Of Unbelievers – Growing As Disciples

The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:4-6 (NIV)

Bright Light

Do you want to shine as a light in the world for me? Do you want others to be drawn to me through my light shining in and through you? Yes, I want to shine as a light in the world for you. Yes, I want others to be drawn to you through your light shining in and through me. I know one thing for sure. What’s that? This cannot be about me. I am not a source of light. For me to shine, you must be shinning in and through me. That’s right.

What must you do if you want my light to shine in and through you? I must spend time in your presence. What will happen to you as you spend time in my presence? I will become more and more like you, as I draw near to you. I cannot spend time in your presence and remain unchanged. That’s true. In your presence you will change everything about me. How so? I will come to think your thoughts, speak your words and do your deeds. My heart will be changed. My mind will be transformed. You will guard and guide my life as I draw near to you. You will make me able to live the life you are calling me to live. You will make me able to live a life that is pleasing to you. You will accomplish your purposes and fulfill your plans in and through my life, as I continue to spend time in your presence. I will bear fruit for your kingdom. I will bring glory to your name. I will shine brightly like a star in the universe, as I live my life with and for you. Yes, you will.

Why do you want to spend time in my presence? Why do you want to become like me? Why do you want to shine brightly in this dark world for me? I love you because you first loved me. I love you with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. It is no burden or sacrifice to live my life with and for you. It is my passionate desire and desire of my heart to live a life that is pleasing to you. I will ask for only one thing. What’s that? I will ask for your help. Make me able to know and do your will. Make me to be a bright light that shines for you in this dark world. I will hear and answer your prayer beyond what you could ask for or even imagine. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, use my life as a light in this world to those who are walking in darkness. Show me who I can speak to on your behalf. Help me to tell them about your glory and goodness. Help me to explain to them your offer of salvation. Amen
