When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet: Psalm 8:3-6
My Best Work
As I lie back on the grass and look up at the night sky, I am overwhelmed by the vastness of your creation. Some of what I am seeing took hundreds maybe even thousands of light years to reach me. My head feels like it is going to spin as I consider the enormity and beauty of the work of your hands. It’s so amazing my mind cannot begin to comprehend all that you have made. It’s quite a gift to sit here and gaze at. Forgive me for all the times that I have taken the beauty of your creation for granted. I am thankful that you are such an artist.
You don’t have to look very far to see some of my best work. How far would I have to look? Do you have a mirror? Me, you’ve got to be kidding. No, I’m not kidding. Mankind is the pinnacle of all my creation. You are more worthy to be looked at in wonder than anything else that you will ever see in the night sky. Now there’s a thought, to think in wonder, being looked at as something more spectacular than all the stars in the sky. You’re having a hard time taking that thought in aren’t you?
Yes, when I consider the universe and the works of your hands I feel very small and insignificant. I imagine that I’m less than a speck of sand in the scale of your creation. Do you think maybe you’re not worth even noticing? Yes, I’ve thought that. Do you think that I might think about you just in passing, now and then? What would you think if I told you that you were on my mind all the time? I’d be speechless. My thoughts about you out number all the grains of sands on all the seashores. They can never be counted. Now that is really causing my head to spin. I need to hold on to something to stabilize myself. I thought you might. You can hold on to me because not only do I think about you all the time, I also care about all the intimate details of your life. I have my eyes on you. You are never ought of my sight.
I thought it was a big deal to consider the beauty and vastness of your creation. Yes, it is. But, knowing that you, the creator of the entire universe, think and care about me just blows me away. I am a mess. I’m undone. Tears of joy fill my eyes. My heart aches to know that I am loved and accepted by you. My lips are filled with thanks and praise. My mind is caught up in wonder. My body has gone limp as I fall to my knees. You are my Father and my God. All glory and honor belongs to you. My life is in your hands. It will be my joy to do your will and to walk in your ways.
About that? Yes? I created you for a purpose. I have a plan for your life. I have work that I want you to do for me. I have made and designed you to bear fruit for my glory. Are you ready to begin? Yes Father, I am. Guide me to the work that you have given me to do for you.
Heavenly Father, the beauty of your creation is all around me. Often in the busyness of life I forget to take notice and take for granted all you have made. Thank you for the gift of your creation. Help me to take care of my part of it. Amen
