The Sovereign LORD has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught. Isaiah 50:4 (NIV)
Awakened
You have awakened me. How so? You have given me a hunger and thirst for you. You have made me to want to know and love and follow and serve you. You have birthed this desire within me. I did not make it up. I did not conceive it. I could not have planned it. I did nothing to prepare for it. This hunger and thirst and desire for you, that is now within me, comes solely from you. Are you glad? Are you thankful? I am more than glad and thankful. Words cannot adequately express how good it has been to taste of your kindness, mercy and love. I will be forever grateful and thankful that you drew me to you. That’s good.
What do you want now? I want to know you. I want to love you. I want to follow and serve you. I want your hand to be on me. I want your favor to rest on me. I want to be powerfully used by you. I want to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. I don’t want all of these in some small measure. I don’t want to know you a little bit. I don’t want to sort of love you. I want to know and love you with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. I don’t want to have a little bit of power and bear a little bit of fruit and bring a little bit of glory to you. I want all that you have for me. I don’t want to fall short. I don’t want to go unused. I don’t want to hold back or have the slightest bit of regret. I want all of these things in abundance. I want none of these things for myself. I want all of these things for you. You have fanned the flame of these desires in me. So, I’m asking you to make me burn brightly as a witness for you in this world. That is very good.
How will all of these things happen? I don’t know for sure. What will be your plan of action? You will awaken me in the morning, of that I am sure. I will come and meet with you. I will listen to your words. I will follow your instructions. I will wait for your guidance. I will go where you guide me. I will do all that you ask of me. You will teach and instruct and train me with your word. You will help me to think your thoughts, speak your words and do your deeds. Yes, I will, you can be sure of that. I will hear and answer your prayer. My hand will be on you. My favor will be with you. I will use you for my purposes. You will fulfill my plans. Thank you, Lord.
Lord, awaken me morning by morning so I can meet with you. Teach and instruct and train me by your word. Give me ears to hear and a heart to listen and obey you. Use me as your instrument to comfort, encourage and sustain the weary with your word. Amen
