Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Freedom – John 10:10 – That They May Have Life – Growing As Disciples
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. John 10:10 (ESV)
Steal, Kill And Destroy
I have come so that you will have a full and abundant life in me. I have broken the power of sin and darkness over your life. I have rescued you from a life without me both now and forever. You are no longer walking on the path that you once walked. You are no longer stuck in the muck of your old life. I have set you on a firm foundation. I am your rock. I am your fortress. I am your deliverer. I have forgiven your sins. I have cleansed you of all your unrighteousness. I am your Savior and Lord. Yes, you are and I am so thankful for all that you have done for me. It is my joy to live the life that you have given to me. It is the desire of my heart to live my life with and for you. That’s very good.
There is something you must do. There is something I want to point out to you. What’s that? You must be on guard. You must be vigilant. You must stand your ground. You must be prepared to do battle. You must be willing to put up a fight. What is the nature of the battle? How must I be prepared to fight? The devil and all his evil is your enemy. He and all his evil will try to steal, kill and destroy you. How so? His weapons will come in every size and shape of sin and doubt. Do not ever think that you can stand and fight against him with your strength alone. You must be prepared to fight with all the strength that I will give to you. You must rely on me. You must take up the weapons that I will give to you. What weapons will you give to me? I want you to answer that question. You have given me your word. Your word will be like a sword in the Holy Spirit’s hand. Your word will fight in me, with me and for me. That’s right, what else? I will take up the shield of faith that will extinguish whatever the devil tries to throw at me. I will put on the helmet of salvation which will protect my mind from his evil thoughts. I will let you guard my heart, from his evil desires, with the breastplate of righteousness. I will put on the shoes of the gospel of peace so that I remain focused on doing what you give me to do for you. I will walk securely with the belt of truth around me so that I do not fall for the devil’s deceptive lies. At all times, I will pray in the Spirit with the prayers that you give me to pray. As I put on this armor, use these weapons and remain vigilant in prayer I know that you will guard and guide and protect my life. Yes, I will.
Lord, I have let life stealers, killers and destroyers rob my joy. I know you have secured a brand new and abundant life for me to live. I will be on guard against anyone or anything that attempts to steal life from me as I continue to love, follow and serve you. Amen
