Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 174 – Jeremiah 18-1-6 – I Will Give You My Message – Growing As Disciples

This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD:  “Go down to the potter’s house, and there I will give you my message.”  So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel.  But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him.  Then the word of the LORD came to me:  “O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter does?” declares the LORD. “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel. Jeremiah 18:1-6 (NIV)

Mold And Shape You

Will you allow me to mold and shape you? Will you allow me to make you into the person I have called you to become? Will you allow me to use you according to my purposes to fulfill my plans? Will you go where I guide you? Will you do what I ask of me? Will you place all your faith and hope and trust in me? Don’t answer me too quickly. Deeply consider all my questions. Get this, I will ask you to go, and you will not know where you are going. I will ask you to do, and you will feel incapable and incompetent. You will feel unprepared, unqualified and certainly uncomfortable. Why is this, you may ask. That thought did come to my mind. I want you to learn to rely on me completely. I want you to place all your trust in me. You have often asked me to grow your faith, have you not? Yes, that prayer has been in my heart and on my mind. Know this, the road on which I will lead you will certainly answer this prayer of yours. Will you listen attentively to me? Will you watch carefully to what I will show you? Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good.

How are you feeling about all that I have said to you? I am filled with wonder and anticipation. I would be lying if I did not say that I am more than a little nervous. How do you think I would like you to feel about what I have said to you? I don’t know. Take a guess. I think you want me to be filled with comfort and peace and joy. Why is that? You want me to always remember that it is you who will be molding and shaping my life. You are the potter. I am the clay. I will be the work of your hands. Isn’t that good? Isn’t that great! Yes, it is far beyond what I could have ever hoped for, dreamed of or even imagined. That is very good.

Lord, I give you permission to mold and shape my life according to your purposes and plans. I welcome you to do your work in and through my life. I want to be used by you. I want to go where you lead me. I want to do all you ask of me. I am at your service. Amen
