The Lord Is With Us

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Guidance - Numbers 14:8-9 - The Lord Is With Us - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Guidance – Numbers 14:8-9 – The Lord Is With Us – Growing As Disciples

If the LORD is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us. Only do not rebel against the LORD. And do not be afraid of the people of the land, because we will swallow them up. Their protection is gone, but the LORD is with us. Do not be afraid of them.” Numbers 14:8-9 (NIV)

Too Big

What would you do if I gave you an assignment that was too big for you? What would you do if I gave you an assignment that seemed completely overwhelming? Is this a trick question? Are you kidding me? No, I am not asking you a trick question. No, I am not kidding you? Why would you think that? You used the word, ‘if”. Yes, I did. There is no, “if”, about your question. “If” indicates that there may be a possibility that you might give me an overwhelming assignment that is too big for me. You have a problem with my use of the word, “if”? No, not really. I do think you could replace that word, “if”, with, “when”. Yes, I could. Why is that? You have already given me assignments in the past that were overwhelming and too big for me. You are certain to give me assignments that are overwhelming and too big for me in the future. Yes, I will.

What have you done and when I have given you an assignment that is overwhelming and too big for you? Sometimes, I have run from overwhelmingly large assignments. Sometimes, I have argued with you over overwhelmingly large assignments. I have doubted. I have been filled with fear. I have complained. I have debated. I have dodged and I have ducked. You have done all of these things and more with my large assignments. Is this what you will continue to do? No, it is not.

What will you do now, when I give you an assignment that is overwhelming and too big for you? I will say yes to you. I will rely on you. I will ask you for your help. I will have faith that you will give me all I will need to accomplish your purposes and fulfill your plans. That’s good. There is something I have come to know. What’s that? You have given me large and overwhelming assignments that are too big for me because you love me. What does my love have to do with the size of the assignments I have given to you? You want me to know you. You want me to draw near to you. You want me to live in a close and intimate relationship with you. Yes, I do. Nothing has drawn me closer to you than to have an overwhelming assignment that is too big for me. As I have come to rely on you for your help I have come to know you and your will and your ways. That’s right. So, count on receiving more large assignments from me. Yes, I will. That is very good.

Lord, I will not let fear and doubt prevent me from saying yes to what you are asking me to do for you. I will trust and believe that you are with me and will give me all that I need to accomplish the assignment you have given to me. Amen

Key Question… What assignment has the Lord given you that will require you to trust Him for His help?

Living It Out… Ask the Lord to help you to step forward in faith to do what He is asking you to do for Him.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that the Lord will give you all that you need to accomplish the assignment that He has given to you.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group an assignment that the Lord is helping you to accomplish for Him.

Prayer To Bless Others… May you have faith that the Lord is with you to help you to do what He asks of you.

If Anyone Loves Me

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Guidance - John 14:23-24 - If Anyone Loves Me- Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Guidance – John 14:23-24 – If Anyone Loves Me- Growing As Disciples

Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me. John 14:23-24 (NIV)

What I Want

I don’t obey you simply because I should or must. I don’t think you would find much pleasure in my feeling obligated to obey, follow and serve you. You would not be happy with however much I gave to you if I gave it to you with a reluctant heart. Not that I can give you anything that you don’t already have. Not that I can give you anything that you haven’t already given to me. I know that all I am, have and hope to be comes from you. Yes, it does.

It would never work if my obeying, following and serving you was motivated by a feeling that I should or must obey you. Why is that? I am not that strong willed. I am not that disciplined. I am not that consistent. I would never be able to keep on doing something simply out of a sense of obligation. No, you would not. I’m not saying that I obey or follow or serve you perfectly. It would be foolish to think I had done or would be able to do that. Yes, that would be foolish.

You are passionately following. It is your desire to serve me. You do want to do what is pleasing in my sight. I have even heard you say that there is no place you would rather be than in my presence. You have also said that there is nothing that you would rather do than my will. I know these things about you. Why is it that you want to obey, follow and serve me? Why do you want to know me? Why do you want to know and do my will? I want to obey, follow and serve you because I love you with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. I love you because you first loved me. You have lavished me with your love. You have allowed me to taste of your goodness, kindness and mercy. The desire of my heart is to draw nearer to you. The desire of my heart is to serve you more perfectly. The desire of my heart is to obey you more perfectly. Loving, obeying following, and serving you is what I want to do because you love me and I love you. That is very good.

Lord, I love you with all my heart, mind, soul and strength. Show me how I can live in your love. Come and make your home with me. I’m here to listen to all you have to say to me. May my love for you guide all my thoughts, words, deeds and course of my life. Amen

Key Question… How does your love for Christ motivate your desire to follow and serve Him?

Living It Out… Love Jesus Christ by following and obeying Him as you do whatever He asks you to do for Him.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that your love for Christ will grow stronger and more passionate as you follow and obey Him.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how your love for Christ has determined how you will live your life.

Prayer To Bless Others… May you love for Jesus Christ motivate your desire to follow and serve Him.

But They Shouted

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Guidance - John 19:14-16 - But They Shouted - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Guidance – John 19:14-16 – But They Shouted – Growing As Disciples

It was the day of Preparation of Passover Week, about the sixth hour. “Here is your king,” Pilate said to the Jews. But they shouted, “Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!” “Shall I crucify your king?” Pilate asked. But They Shouted “We have no king but Caesar,” the chief priests answered. John 19:14-15 (NIV)

Voices

You will hear many different voices in life. You will see and hear things from a variety of sources. Not everything you hear and see will be healthy and helpful for you as one of my followers. Does that surprise you? No, it doesn’t, not at all. Why is that? This is a broken and sinful world. I’m surprised by your saying, not everything I hear and see will be healthy and helpful for me, as one of your followers. You could have said, most of what I hear and see will not be healthy and helpful to me as one of your followers. Yes, that’s right, I could have said that. That is true.

You will have a choice to make about what you hear and see and take into your heart and mind and life. How so? You will not always be able to divert your eyes or close your ears to the sights and sounds of the world.  But, you will be able to make a choice about what sights and sounds you take into your heart and mind and life. Can you say more? I’m not sure that I understand what you are saying. I will ask a few questions for you to consider. Go ahead, I’m listening. Will you listen to the sights and sounds and voices you hear from the world? Will you follow their direction? Will you receive their guidance? Will you follow the crowd by going where they are going? Will you follow the crowd by doing what they are doing? Will your life be guided by the thoughts and opinions and values of the world? No, it will not. That will be very good.

It is not enough to say that you will not follow the sights and sounds and voices of the world. Why not? You will never be able to keep that commitment by yourself, with your own strength. If you try, on your own, you will be overwhelmed by the thoughts and opinions and values of the world. Your statement of commitment is only half of what you must do. What else must I do? You must draw near to me. You must listen to my voice. When you draw near to me, I will draw near to you. My voice will guide and guard you. My voice will teach and train you. My voice will lead you to where I want you to go. My voice will give you what I want you to do. Will you choose to listen to my voice over the voices from the world? Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good.

Lord, I have allowed myself to hear and see things that have been unhealthy and unhelpful to my walk with you. Help me to remove that garbage from my life. Instead, I want to hear and see what you want me to receive as direction from you. Amen

Key Question… How has following the loud voices and shouts of the crowd led you where you did not want you to go?

Living It Out… Eliminate from your life unhelpful and unhealthy messages and images that are harming your walk with the Lord.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that the Lord will help you to eliminate from your life what He does not want you to hear and see.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how you are hearing and seeing what the Lord wants you to receive.

Prayer To Bless Others… May you stop listening to the voices of the crowd so you can hear from the Lord.

Listen To My Voice

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Guidance - John 10:14-16 - Listen To My Voice- Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Guidance – John 10:14-16 – Listen To My Voice- Growing As Disciples

“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me– just as the Father knows me and I know the Father–and I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd. John 10:14-16

Listen To You

Here I am Lord. I have taken time to stop. I have withdrawn from the noise and busyness of my life. I have left the hustle and bustle behind. I have quieted myself before you.  I am here at your feet. I am ready to listen. I don’t want to miss a word that you have to say to me. You have my complete attention. My heart and mind and life are focused on you. Speak to me, I’m here with my heart filled with desire to listen to you. That is very good.

What brought you to this place? Why are you so eager to hear from me? What has filled your heart with desire to listen to me? You brought me to this place. You made it possible for me to come to you. I was like a lost and lonely wandering sheep. I was bruised and battered and broken by life. I was lost on a path that was leading away from you. But, you sought me out. You pursued me. You would not let me go. You rescued me from a life without you. In your presence, you restored my soul. You have refreshed and revived my life. You healed my bruised and battered and broken life. There is however something even better than that. Like what? In moments of quietness you have made it so I could come to know you. You brought me to a place where I could drink deeply of your kindness, mercy and love. You allowed me to taste of your goodness. I now love you because you first loved me. You have made it so I could know your will and walk in your ways. Now, I want to live each moment of my life with and for you. There is no place I would rather be than in your presence. There is nothing I would rather do than follow and serve you. That is very good.

So, I keep coming back to this place so I can listen to you. In your presence, I want to be changed. I want you to mold and shape my life. I want you to make me to be like you. I want to go where you went. I want to do what you did. I want to give like you gave. I want to serve like you served. I want to love like you loved. Use my life to accomplish your purposes and fulfill your plans. Guide and guard my life as I love, follow and serve you. These are my prayers. Those are very good prayers. I have probably done enough talking. Speak to me Lord, I am listening. That is very good.

Lord, you are my Good Shepherd. You take care of me. You lead me to where I need to go. You laid down your life for me and made it possible for me to know you. Your voice speaks to me. It is my delight to listen and follow you. Amen

Key Question… When do you stop, sit, and wait to listen for your Good Shepherd’s voice to speak to you?

Living It Out… Set aside time so that you can stop, sit, and wait to listen to the Good Shepherd’s voice and be taught by Him.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that the Good Shepherd is calling you to come to stop, sit, and wait to listen to His voice.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how you are listening to the Lord’s voice so that you can know Him.

Prayer To Bless Others… May you stop, sit, and wait to listen to the voice of your Good Shepherd speaking to you.

Your Ears Will Hear A Voice

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Guidance - Isaiah 30:21 - Your Ears Will Hear A Voice - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Guidance – Isaiah 30:21 – Your Ears Will Hear A Voice – Growing As Disciples

Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” Isaiah 30:21 (NIV)

The Way

Are you expecting that I will speak to you? Are you listening attentively to my voice? Are you waiting for my instructions? Are you trusting in my guidance? Do you believe that I will lead you on your journey through life? I know that you will speak to me. I know that you will guide me on my journey through life. I am counting on your guidance and waiting for your instruction. You have said that you will draw near to me as I draw near to you. That’s right. You want me to come to you in prayer. You want me to be taught by you. You want me to receive your guidance. These things are also true.

Why do you expect to hear from me? Why are you so certain that I will speak to you? Prayer to you is a dialogue, not a monologue. That’s right. Prayer is just as much listening as it is talking to you. Yes, it is. You want me to talk to you. Yes, I do. You also want me to listen to you. Yes, I do. I can’t receive your instruction or follow your guidance if you do not speak to me. That’s pretty obvious isn’t it? Yes, it is.

Why are you so willing to come to meet with me? Why are you so determined to hear from me? Nothing brings me greater joy than to be in your presence. Nothing is more encouraging than to hear you speaking to me. Nothing is more certain than your desire for me to live in a close and intimate relationship with you. So, I come and sit at your feet. I come to wait in your presence. I come to listen attentively to your voice. I am reminded of times when I have searched for something with the certainty that I am looking in the right place. The intensity of my search is strongest when I am certain that I will find what I am looking for if I don’t give up. I know with certainty that you will speak to me if I keep on listening and don’t give up. Yes, I will.

What do you want to hear from me right now? I want to hear whatever you have to say to me. You can tell me where to go. You can tell me what to do. You can tell me what you want to do in and through my life. You can tell me how you want to use me for your purposes. You can teach me. You can guide me. You can correct me. You can encourage and strengthen me. You know what I need to hear. You know that I am listening attentively to you. Yes, I do.

Lord, I will patiently wait, watch, and listen for your guidance and direction. Teach me Lord to walk and live according to your will and ways. It is my desire to live my life fully for you. Use me according to your purposes and plans. Amen

Key Question… How hard is it for you to stop and wait to listen for guidance and instruction from the Lord?

Living It Out… Stop and wait to listen for the Lord to give you guidance and direction for your life.

Seeing It Happen Have faith that the Lord will guide your life as you stop and wait for His guidance and direction.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how you have received guidance from the Lord.

Prayer To Bless Others… May you listen attentively to the voice of God speaking to you.

Speak For Your Servant Is Listening

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Guidance - 1 Samuel 3:8-10 - Speak For Your Servant Is Listening - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Guidance – 1 Samuel 3:8-10 – Speak For Your Servant Is Listening – Growing As Disciples

The LORD called Samuel a third time, and Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; you called me.” Then Eli realized that the LORD was calling the boy. So Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, ‘Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.'” So Samuel went and lay down in his place. The LORD came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.” 1 Samuel 3:8-10 (NIV)

Quiet

You live in a noisy world. You run at a frantic pace. Will you be able to hear me over the noise of this world? Will you listen to me while you run at your frantic pace? Those are good questions. Yes, they are. Do you expect me to answer them? Yes, I do. From a lifetime of experience, I know that the answer is no to both your questions. Why is that? I’m hard of hearing. Listening is not my strength. I will never hear you over the noise of the world or while I am running at a frantic pace. That’s true.

Do you want to hear from me? Do you want to hear my instructions? Do you want to follow my guidance? Yes, of course I want to hear from you. I want to know you. I want to know your will. I want to walk in your ways. I want to do what is pleasing in your sight. Then you have a problem. I do? Yes, you do.

What will you need to do if you want to hear from me? What changes will you make in your life so you can hear from me? I will stop running around. I will leave behind my busy life. I will quiet myself before you. I will turn off the noise from the world.  I will set apart a sacred time and a special place to meet with you. That will be very good.

Do you think it will be difficult to make yourself ready to hear from me? I’m sure that slowing down so that I can listen to you will be very difficult. My heart and mind and life will not stop on a dime. Are you expecting immediate results? What do you mean by that? You haven’t been quiet. You haven’t been listening. You have been racing. You have been running. Your heart and mind and life have been filled with noise. Will you have perfect hearing on the first day that you start listening to me? No, certainly not. I’m sure that it will take time to recognize and hear your voice. Will that discourage you? Will you give up? Will you quit trying to know me and walk in my ways? No, I will not quit. No, I will not give up. I will keep on meeting with you in our sacred place at our special time. That will be very good. You will hear from me.

Lord, I know that at many points you have tried to get my attention so that you could speak to me. But, I was so busy, preoccupied and not ready to listen. Now, you have my full attention. Speak to me Lord. I am listening. Amen

Set Foot

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Guidance - Joshua 3:11-13 - Set Foot - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Guidance – Joshua 3:11-13 – Set Foot – Growing As Disciples

See, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth will go into the Jordan ahead of you. Now then, choose twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one from each tribe. And as soon as the priests who carry the ark of the LORD–the Lord of all the earth–set foot in the Jordan, its waters flowing downstream will be cut off and stand up in a heap.” Joshua 3:11-13 (NIV)

Step Of Faith

You will never know until you take a step of faith. I will never know what until I take a step of faith? You will never know that I am with you. You will never know that I will help you. You will never know that I will work in you. You will never know my power to accomplish my purposes and fulfill plans through your life. Then a step of faith is required. A step of faith is not optional. Steps of faith will always be required if I want to move forward with you, is that right? That’s right.

Steps of faith are uncomfortable. Steps of faith are demanding. Steps of faith are challenging. Steps of faith are scary. Steps of faith will lead me to where I have never been to do what I have never done before, is that right? That is right.

Is that what you want? Is what, do I want? Do you want to be comfortable? Do you want to take it easy? Do you want to amount to little? Do you want to accomplish next to nothing? I want none of that. I want to accomplish your purposes. I want to fulfill your plans. I want you to use my life to the fullest extent possible. I want to do all the good works that you have planned for me to do. I want to bear an abundance of fruit for your kingdom. I want to bring glory to your name. One day I want to hear you say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” I don’t want to have left any of the gifts, talents and resources that you have given me to go unused. Those are all very good desires.

You will accomplish none of what you hope if you do not follow me. I will follow you. I will go where you guide me. I will do what you ask of me. That is very good. As you follow me, what can you expect? I can expect that I will be taking steps of faith with you. That’s right. Will the steps of faith get smaller or larger as you continue to follow me? I am sure that the steps will be larger as I continue to follow you. That’s right. What can you also be sure of as you follow me? I can be sure that you will be with me every step of my way. You will help me. You will work in and through me. You will make me able to know and do your will. You will help me to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. Yes, I will. Follow me. Yes Lord, I will.

You are Lord of all the earth and creator of the universe. You have your plans and purposes. Help me to come to you to stop, sit, wait and listen for your guidance. Help me to take steps of faith with you so that I can be used by you. Amen

By Faith Noah

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Guidance - Hebrews 11:7 - By Faith Noah - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Guidance – Hebrews 11:7 – By Faith Noah – Growing As Disciples

By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith. Hebrews 11:7 (NIV)

Faith

That is what it will take? What is what it will take? It will take faith. It will take faith to do what? It will take faith to do whatever I ask you to do for me. It will? Yes, it will. Why is that? You tell me. I’m not sure. Take a guess. You don’t give me many little assignments? You don’t give me easy things to do. You don’t give me what I can do all by myself, without your help. That’s right.

You have a large assignment from me right now. Yes, I do. It is not only a large assignment. It is also a very long assignment. Yes, it is. Could you do the assignment that you are on right now, without my help? Certainly not. I could not have even dreamed up this large and long assignment that you have given to me. That’s right.

Why have you taken on this large and long assignment that I have given to you? My answer is in your question. How so? I believe with all my heart and mind and soul and strength that you have given me this large and long assignment. You have been weary and worn out by my assignment. My assignment has cost you a tremendous amount of time and energy and resources. I agree with both your statements. What has kept you going? Why have you not given up? You have helped me. You have been with me. You have encouraged me. You have revived and strengthened me. That’s right.

Have you received a lot of encouragement from others as you have worked on this large and long assignment? No, I have not. I have received some encouragement. But, I have received more discouragement than encouragement. How do you feel about that? The discouragement has been surprising. I would have never expected it. How have you been able to keep on going in the face of discouragement? I have kept my eyes on you. I have not listened to criticism. I have not accepted discouragement. I have not considered the overwhelming nature of this assignment. I have not dwelt on how long it might take me to complete your assignment. What have you done? I have taken one step at a time, one day at a time, as I have kept on doing the work that you have given me to do. That is what I will keep on doing. That will be very good.

Lord, regardless of the difficulty of the assignment I will say yes to all that you are asking me to do for you. In the face of doubt, fear and weakness I will rely on you for all that I need to accomplish the task you have set before me. Amen

Now Go

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Guidance- Exodus 4:10-13 - Now Go - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Guidance- Exodus 4:10-13 – Now Go – Growing As Disciples

Moses said to the LORD, “O Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.” The LORD said to him, “Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the LORD? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.” But Moses said, “O Lord, please send someone else to do it.” Exodus 4:10-13 (NIV)

I Will Help You

So, you feel inadequate to go and do what I am asking you to do for me? You feel unprepared to accomplish my purposes? You feel unable to fulfill my plans? Am I hearing you correctly? Yes, you are hearing me loud and clear. Would you believe that you are the first person that I have called into my service who has felt inadequate, unprepared and unable to accomplish my purposes and fulfill my plans? No, I wouldn’t believe that, not for a second. That’s good. Would you believe that if you feel completely adequate, fully prepared and totally able to accomplish my assignment, then something is wrong. Like what? Like, I’m not calling you to do what you feel completely adequate, fully prepared and totally able to accomplish. That’s not me. You can be sure that the very easy assignments that are before you are not what I have in mind for you. What do you have in mind for me?

Let me ask you a few questions. I’m listening. You have my full attention. When have I given you a super easy assignment? When have I given you an assignment that didn’t cause you to come to rely on me? When have I given you an assignment that you could do without my help? I can’t remember you ever giving me an assignment like that. That’s good, because those are not the kind of assignments that you will receive from me. What kind of assignments will I receive from you? I have assignments in mind for you that will stretch your faith. I have assignments in mind for you that will cause you to come to rely on me. I have assignments in mind for you that will be far beyond what you could possibly imagine. I expect that you will have some fear about the assignments that I will give to you. I expect that you will have some doubts about the assignments that I will give to you. Will you face your fears? Will you confront your doubts? Will you have faith in me? Will you come to rely on me? Do you believe that I will work in and through your life? Do you believe that I will help you do whatever I ask you to do for me? Yes Lord, I believe that you will be with me to help me. I will say yes to you. I will say yes to the assignments that you give to me. That is very good. I will help you.

Lord, I will go and do whatever you ask me to do. I will not hesitate. I will not debate with you, even though, I don’t feel adequate or prepared for this assignment. I will need your help every step of my way. I will trust you, to give me all I will need to serve you. Amen

Led By The Spirit

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Guidance - Romans 8:12-14 - Led By The Spirit - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Guidance – Romans 8:12-14 – Led By The Spirit – Growing As Disciples

Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation–but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. Romans 8:12-14 (NIV)

My Leading

Where do you think I will lead you? What do you think I will do with your life? How will your life change as you love, follow and serve me? How am I supposed to know the answers to those questions? You are asking me about the future. How am I to know what to expect? How can I have any idea what you have in store for me in my future? You know much more than you think you know. I do? Yes, you do. Let me ask you a few more questions. Go ahead, you have my full attention. You do know that I will be leading you, don’t you? You did say that you wanted to follow me, didn’t you? Yes, I want to follow you. Yes, I know that you will be leading me through life. What will you leave behind as you start to follow me? I will be leaving my old life behind. I will be leaving all my old sinful thoughts, patterns and practices. Is it true then to say that I will be leading you away from your old life? Yes, I’m sure that is true. That’s part of your future. There is no mystery or hiddenness about this part of your future, is there? No, there is nothing mysterious about this direction that you will be leading me. So, you do know something very important about your future with me? Yes, I do. That’s good. I agree. If I will be leading you away from your old life, where will I be leading you? I don’t think I know. You can’t leave one thing without going to another, can you? No, I cannot. I get it. You will be leading away from my old life to the new life that you have given me to live. Yes, I will. Do you know why it is so important that I lead you away from your old life into your new life? I’m not sure. Do you think that you would be able to stop living your old life if I didn’t help you to live the new life that I was giving to you? No, I don’t think so. Why is that? Well, I can’t simply leave my old thoughts, patterns and practices behind without them being replaced by something else. If I had no real new life to live, I would wander back to living my old life. You don’t want that. No, I don’t. I want to live the new life you have for me to live. Why is that? I love you. I want to follow and serve you. You loved me and gave yourself fully and completely to me. You are my Savior and Lord. You are my God and Father. You made me to be your child. You adopted me into your family. Yes, I did. Now, I want to live my life fully and completely for you. I want to do what is pleasing in your sight. I want you to replace my old sinful life with the brand-new life that you have for me to live. Is that your prayer? Yes, it is. I will hear and answer your prayer. Now you know where your life is headed, don’t you? Yes, I do. That is very good.

Lord, thank you that I have no obligation to live according to my old sinful nature. You have broken me free from my old sinful life. By your Spirit, you have led me away from all my old thoughts, patterns and practices. You have given me a brand-new life to live. Amen
