Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NIV)
Your Work
Is it a waste of your time? It is not worth your efforts? What’s that? The work I have given you to do for me. Is it a waste of your time? Is it not worth your effort? Certainly not, nothing is a better use of my time and the expenditure of my efforts than going and serving you. Why do you say that? What makes you so certain? You are my example. You did not waste your time. You did not misspend your efforts. What did I do? You did the will of your Father. You listened attentively to your Father. You met regularly with Him in prayer. You received your guidance and direction from Him. You went where He guided you. You did what He asked of you. Yes, I did. I will follow your example. I will meet with you in prayer. I will listen attentively to you. I will go where you guide me. I will do what you ask of me. That will be very good.
Will you be alone in your efforts? Not at all. You will be with me to help me. You will sustain and strengthen me. You will guard and guide me. You will make me able to go and do the work you will give me to do for you. Only you can make me steadfast and immovable. Only you can make me unshakable. I know the road will not be easy. I am certain that I will face setbacks and disappointments and discouragement. You will keep me moving forward with you. Yes, I will.
Will you receive any rewards for your efforts? It will be rewarding enough for me to know that I have been able to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. It will be rewarding enough to know that I have gone and done what you have asked of me. It will be rewarding enough to have lived my life by walking in an intimate relationship with you. That’s true. But, what else do you know? My labor will never be in vain. One day, I will hear you say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” It will be enough to hear you say those words to me. It will be enough to know that I have lived a life that was pleasing to you. That’s true. But, what else do you know? One day you will reward me for whatever I have gone and done for you. Yes, I will. Will you keep on loving, following and serving me? Yes, I will. That will be very good.
Lord, I will stand firm in you. I will be immovable and unshakeable. I will go all out. I will not wear out. I will not give up. I will never quit. I will not slack off. I will give myself fully to you. Thankfully, I know that all the labor I do for you will never be in vain. Amen
