Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises Day 200- 1 John 1:1-4 – Fully Share Our Joy – Growing As Disciples

We proclaim to you the one who existed from the beginning, whom we have heard and seen. We saw him with our own eyes and touched him with our own hands. He is the Word of life. This one who is life itself was revealed to us, and we have seen him. And now we testify and proclaim to you that he is the one who is eternal life. He was with the Father, and then he was revealed to us.  We proclaim to you what we ourselves have actually seen and heard so that you may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.  We are writing these things so that you may fully share our joy.  1 John 1:1-4 (NLT)

Fullness Of Joy

Do you want to have fullness of joy? Do you want my joy to overflow your life? Yes, I want your fullness of joy to overflow my life. How can such a thing happen to me? How can this be true in my experience? First, I have many more questions for you. I’m listening. Do you have anything that you have heard and seen or received from me that is worth sharing with others? Have I touched your life? Did I lift your life out of the muck and mire? Did I set your feet on solid ground? Have I healed your brokenness? Have I revived and refreshed and restored your soul? Have I forgiven your sins and cleansed your unrighteousness? Am I your Savior and Lord? Have I completely turned your life around and given you a brand-new life to live? Do you now have a new hope filled future, that will last forever? Do I have a plan and purpose for your life? Am I using you to accomplish my purposes and fulfill my plan? Is it now your joy to love me with all your heart and mind and soul and strength? Are you now running the race I have set before you? Is your life on course? Yes Lord, you have done and are doing all these things for me. Yes, all that you have done and are doing for me is giving me great hope and peace and joy. You are certainly my Savior and Lord. My life is in your hands, nothing could make me more grateful and thankful. I do love you with all that is within me. That is very good.

Now then, lets come back to the topic of having your life overflowing with joy. I’d like that. Keep on remembering all that I have done and am doing for you. Don’t forget. Then simply tell others all that I have done and am doing for you. Then my fullness of joy will overflow your life. Can you do that? Can you remember? Can you tell others about all that I have done for you and the new life you have in me? Yes Lord, I can and will do that. Then you have my fullness of joy overflowing your life. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, thank you for using others to help me to come to know and love and follow and serve you. In the same way that you used others to help me to come to know you, use me to help others come to know you. Then together, we will all have fullness of joy. Amen

We Proclaim To You

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Becoming Like Christ - Day 214- 1 John 1:1-4 - We Proclaim To You - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Becoming Like Christ – Day 214- 1 John 1:1-4 – We Proclaim To You – Growing As Disciples

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched–this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make our joy complete. 1 John 1:1-4 (NIV)

Proclaim You

That is what I want to do. What do you want to do? I want to proclaim you to others. Why is that? What is motivating your desire to proclaim me? First of all, I am far beyond grateful and thankful for all that you have done for me. You left heaven. You gave up all your rights and privileges. You came into this world as a man. You lived and died for me. You made it so my sins could be forgiven and my unrighteous cleansed. I now live in an intimate relationship with God. I have been adopted into His family. I have been made to be His child. My future in heaven is secure because of all that you have done for me. You have given my life, purpose and meaning and hope. It is now the focus of my life to come to know and love and follow and serve you. How could I keep such wonderful news secret? How could I not want for others all that you have done and given to me? The truth is, I can’t keep such good news a secret. That is very good.

So, what will you now do? I will make you known. I will help others to come to know you through both my words and actions. I will live the life you have called me to live. I will go and do whatever you ask of me. Most of all, I will not remain silent. I will proclaim to others what I have heard and seen of you. I will proclaim to others all that you have done for me. I will tell others of your kindness and mercy and love. I will tell others of the salvation that is found only in you. What will happen to you as you proclaim me to others? I will have purpose and mining and direction. I will have a mission to accomplish. I will have work to do on your behalf. What else? I will be filled with joy as I tell others all that you have done for me. I will be filled with joy as I see others coming to know and to love and to follow and serve you. That will be very good. Thank you, Lord, for coming into this world to save me.

Lord, thank you for leaving heaven and coming into this world. You lived and died for me. You made it possible for my sins to be forgiven. You made it possible for me to have a new life in you. Use me to proclaim to others the salvation they can have in you. Amen

Key Question… What joy have you found in proclaiming Christ to others so that they could come to know Him?

Living It Out… Allow the Lord to use you to proclaim Him to others.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that you will have fullness of joy as you proclaim Christ to others so that they can come to know Him.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how the Lord has used you to proclaim Him to others.

Prayer To Bless Others… May you proclaim Christ to others so that they can come to know Him.

Concerning The Word Of Life

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - The Sacramental Life - Day 319 - 1 John 1:1-4 - Concerning The Word Of Life - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – The Sacramental Life – Day 319 – 1 John 1:1-4 – Concerning The Word Of Life – Growing As Disciples

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life—  the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us—  that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.  And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete. 1 John 1:1-4 (ESV)

Fullness Of Joy

That is what I have received from you. What have you received from me? I have received fullness of joy from you. What does that mean? How have you received fullness of joy from me? Before I came to know you, I was living a bruised and battered and broken life. I lived for my own comfort and pleasure. I followed my own advice. I listened to my own counsel. I was strong willed. I was independent. I was self-reliant. I went my own way. I did whatever I wanted, when I wanted. I was completely full of myself. My foolish, prideful, and sinful life brought me nothing but pain and suffering. One could say that I suffered for my many sins. There was no doubt about that.  All my hopes and dreams and desires fell flat and amounted to nothing of lasting value. I bounced from one unproductive endeavor to another. I was miserable and without hope in the world. One day that all changed. How so? Surely you know, nothing is hidden from you. That is true. But I love hearing you tell your own story. Your word says that you are close to the broken hearted. It does. I am. I found that to be true. In my brokenness, I cried out to you. I asked you to show yourself to me. That cry was more like an angry shout.  But you must have received it as a heartfelt legitimate prayer. I did. From that day forward you did begin to show yourself to me. No doubt, you tried to get my attention at many and in various ways before. That is true. But then at that time, you did have my attention. Yes, I did.  It wasn’t long before I asked you to come into my life. I asked you to be my Savior and Lord. I turned away from my life of sin so that I could follow you with all my heart. I have been loving and following you since that day. Have I always loved you well or followed you perfectly? Not hardly. But you have continued to show yourself to me. You have allowed me to hear and see and feel you working in my life and in the world around me. Now, it is my joy to live my life with and for you. Now, it is my joy to come to know you more intimately as I live my life with and for you. Now, it is my joy to be your witness in the world. I have fullness of joy as I bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. That is what I meant when I said that I have fullness of joy. That is how I have received fullness of joy from you. I am living the life you have called me to live. I am walking through life with and for you. That is very good. Yes, it is. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, you are the word of life. Coming to know you has completely changed my life. You have helped me to hear and see and feel your activity in my life. Help me to come to know you intimately. Double my joy as I tell others about your kindness, mercy, and love. Amen

Key Question…  How has the Lord touched your life in ways that have changed you forever?

Living It Out…  Make yourself fully attentive to the Lord so you can hear and see and feel His activity in your life.

Seeing It Happen…  Have faith that you will have fullness of joy as you come to know the Lord more intimately.

Get Ready To Share…  Share with another person or your small group how you are coming to know the Lord more intimately.

Prayer To Bless Others…  May you come to know the Lord intimately so you can live in His fullness of joy.
