Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Becoming Like Christ – Day 95 – 1 John 3:1-3 – We Shall Become Like Him – Growing As Disciples

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure. 1 John 3:1-3 (NIV)

Lavished With Love

There is no doubt about that. There is no doubt about what? There is no doubt that you have lavished me with your love. How have I lavished you with my love? You have lavished me with your love in ways too numerous to count. Name a few ways that I have lavished you with my love. You made it possible for me to be adopted into your family. You sent your Son into the world to pay for my sins so that I could be forgiven of all my unrighteousness. You broke down the barrier that prevented me from living in an intimate relationship with you. You rescued me from a life without you both now and forever. You have made me to be your child. You are my Heavenly Father. Yes, I am. Yes, I have done all these things for you. For that, I am very thankful. That is very good.

How else have I lavished you with my love? You put your Holy Spirit in me. Your Holy Spirit in me is like a deposit guaranteeing that I have an inheritance in heaven with you. One day I will come to live forever in heaven with you. One day, I will see you. One day, I will be completely changed. How so? I will become like your Son. Yes, you will. Knowing this fills me with hope and peace and joy. Knowing this fills me with praise and thanksgiving to you. This hope fills me with passion to live my life with and for you. I want to live a life that is fully pleasing to you. I long for the day when I will come to live in heaven forever with you. In the meantime, you are changing me day by day. You are molding and shaping me. You are helping me to live the life that you have called me to live. Even now, you have started the work of making me to be like your Son. Yes, I have. Your work will reach its completion on the day I come to live with you. Yes, it will. That will be a glorious day. Yes, it will.

Heavenly Father, thank you for lavishing me with your love. You made me to be your child. You are helping me to come to know, love, follow and serve you. You are molding and shaping my life. You are making me to be like your Son. I welcome your work in me. Amen

We Do Know That Will Be Like Him

The Sacramental Life - Day 320 - John 3:1-3 - We Know That We Will Be Like Him - Growing As Disciples

The Sacramental Life – Day 320 – John 3:1-3 – We Know That We Will Be Like Him – Growing As Disciples

See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him.  Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is.  And all who have this eager expectation will keep themselves pure, just as he is pure. 1 John 3:1-3 (NLT)

Like Me

Do you want to become like me? Do you want to speak like I spoke? Do you want to think like I thought? Do you want to act like I acted? Do you want to go where I went? Do you want to do what I did? Do you want to live like I lived? I am positive about two things. Such as? I do want to become like you. That is the highest and most passionate desire I have within me. I want nothing more than to become like you. In fact, it is the prayer of my heart that you will fan that flame of desire within me. Make it my earnest expectation that I will become like you in all that I think, and say, and do. Purify that desire within me. Burn out anything in my life that is not like you. That is quite a prayer. That is a good desire.  You said that there were two things of which, you are positive. Yes, I did. You have only mentioned one. I am positive that I have no idea what the implications are of my desire, and prayer, and eager expectation, of becoming like you. What do you have in mind? I have no idea where you will lead me. I have no idea of what you will ask of me. I have no idea of how you will change my heart, transform my mind, and guide my life so that day by day, I will become more like you. You know far more than you recognize at the moment. What do you have in mind? You know the goal. What is the goal? You tell me. My goal, and your goal, are for me to become more like you every day, as I love and follow and serve you. You know who to follow.  Yes, I will follow you to where you lead me and do what you ask of me. I will follow your example. I will think and speak and act like you. I will love like you love. I will give like you gave. I will serve like you served. You know the result of your living your life with and for me. Yes, one day I will fully become like you when I see you as you are. Yes, you will. Does this hope, does this eager expectation, spur you on? Do you have any doubts about my ability to help you to become more like me every day, as you follow me? Do you have any doubts about your becoming fully like me as you see me as I am? No, I do not. Then live with this hope and eager expectation in you. Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good.

Lord, it is my desire to become like you. I want to think, speak, and act like you. Change my heart, transform my mind, and guide my life. Help me to live as you lived and do what you did. Help me to fully live as a child of God. Fan the flame of this desire in me. Amen

Key Question…  How is your eager expectation that you will become like Christ transforming everything about you?

Living It Out…  Eagerly expect that Christ will make you more like Him now and fully like Him in the future when you see Him.

Seeing It Happen…  Have faith that you will become more like Christ now and fully like Him in the future when you see Him.

Get Ready To Share…  Share with another person or your small group how you are becoming more like Christ as you love and follow Him.

Prayer To Bless Others…  May you become like Christ as you continue to love, follow, and serve Him.

We Will Be Like Him

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 204 – 1 John 3:1-3 – We Will Be Like Him – Growing As Disciples

I Love You

Do you see it? Can you perceive it? Do you know it? You are going to have to be more specific. Do I see what? Can I perceive what? Do I know what? Do you know how much I love you? That is a very good question. I want to see and perceive and know how much you love me. Sometimes, I think that something is wrong with me, in that I don’t know how much you love me. It is the desire of my heart to know much more, how you love me. I have no doubt that there is no limit to your love for me. But my seeing and perceiving and knowing your love for me is muted and blurred, I could say it is not crystal clear. Let me ask you a question. I’m listening. You have my full attention. What is the best that I could do for you? If I could demonstrate my love to you, how could I do it? If you could ask me for anything, what would you ask? I would ask you to be my Heavenly Father. I would ask you to make me to be your child. I would ask you to help me to know and love and follow and serve you with all that is within me. I would ask you to help me to live in an intimate relationship with you. I would ask you to help me to hear your voice leading and guiding me through life. I would ask you to forgive my sins and cleanse my unrighteousness. I would ask you to make me as pure and as white as snow. I would ask you to be my Savior and Lord. I would ask you to make me to be like you, day by day, as I love and follow and serve you. I would ask you to one day, when I see you face to face, to make me to be just like you. I would ask you to have a place in heaven where I could one day come to live with you forever. You have asked well. Let me ask you two more questions. If I have been and will continue to do all these things for you, would you better see and perceive and know my love for you? Yes Lord, I would. Will I not do all these things for you today, tomorrow and forever? Yes Lord, I know you are doing all these things for me. Then your knowledge of my love for you is not as muted and blurred as you think. But you are correct, you do not see crystal clearly. But one day you will see clearly, when we meet face to face. Thank you, Heavenly Father, for your love for me. I will wait with eager expectation the day when I will be completely changed in your presence. That is very good.

Heavenly Father, thank you for loving me and making me to be one of your children. Thank you for helping me to be more like Christ. It is my eager expectation that one day I will fully be like Him when I see Him face to face. Help me to be pure as He is pure. Amen

Lavished On Us

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Love- 1 John 3:1-3 - Lavished On Us - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Love- 1 John 3:1-3 – Lavished On Us – Growing As Disciples

I Am Your Child

I am your child. You are my Father. That is difficult to comprehend. Why is that? It is so amazing that the God who created the universe, loves and cares for me. In the vastness of all creation, I am small and insignificant, or so, it seems to me. I could imagine that you are quite busy and would have no time for me. But, that is not true at all. No, it’s not. You love and care for me. Yes, I do. You are watching over my life. Your hand is on me. Your favor rests of me. You are guiding me to where you want me to go. You are giving me what you want me to do. Yes, I am. You went to great lengths to demonstrate your love for me. You paid a very high price so that I could be forgiven of my sins and cleansed of my unrighteousness. Yes, I did. It was that important to you, that I come to live in an intimate relationship with you. Yes, it is. That is amazing. That is astounding. That is head spinning. That is breathtaking. That is heart pounding. I’m glad you think so.

There is something just as amazing. What’s that? You want me to come to know you. Yes, I do. You want me to come into your presence. You want to mold and shape my life as I come to know you. Every day as I draw near to you, I will be changed to be more like you. You will help me to know your thoughts. You will help me to walk in your ways. You will help me to live the life you have called me to live. Yes, I will. Now, in this life I will see and know you only in part. Now, in this life I will become like you only in part. That is true. One day, I will see and know you fully. Then, on that day, I will be changed. I will become like you. Yes, you will. That is my hope. That is my desire. That is what causes my heart to burn with passion for you. I love you with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. That is very good.

Father, thank you for lavishing your love on me by making me to be your child. You are my Father! Help me to comprehend and accept all it means to be your child. May all the hope I have in you guide how I live for you now. Amen

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Be – 1 John 3:1-3 – Called – Growing As Disciples

Like Him

You are my child. I sought you out. I chased you down. I have called you by name. I have lavished you with my love. I sent my Son to die on the cross so that you could be forgiven of all your sins and cleansed of all your unrighteous. Though your sins were like scarlet, you have been made new and fresh and clean, as white as snow. When I look at you I don’t see your sin. You are covered by my Son’s righteousness. The distance between us has been bridged. My Son has made it so you can live in a close and intimate relationship with me. My Son has broken the power of sin over your life. He has made it so you can throw off the dirty, stinky clothes of your old life. I am giving you new thoughts to think. You can come to me. You can know my will and walk in my ways. I am using my word to change your heart. Instead of allowing yourself to be conformed to this word, you are allowing my word to transform your mind. My Son has made it so you can now put on the clothes of your new life. I am leading you. I am teaching you. I am training you. You are the work of my hands. You are my masterpiece. Don’t become discouraged at your progress. Don’t grow weary. Never give up. Day-by-day, I will be molding and shaping your life. Day-by-day, I will be making you to be more like my Son. I will keep on working in and through your life until the day that you come to meet me face to face. I will make you able to accomplish my purposes and fulfill my plans. My hand will be on you. I will be blessing your life. Your life will bear an abundance of fruit for my kingdom. Your life will bring glory to my name. Your life will shine brightly for me in the darkness of this world.

How does all this sound to you? It is beyond what I could have hoped for or even imagined. You are my God and Father. You are my Savior and Lord. You are all that I will ever need. I am your child. You are holding on to me as I hold on to you. You are drawing near to me as I draw near to you. Yes, I am. Keep on loving, following and serving me. Yes, I will.

Heavenly Father, thank you for lavishing your love on me and calling me to be your child. Thank you for making me to be more like your son, Jesus Christ. Keep on changing my heart, transforming my mind and guiding my life until I see you face to face. Amen

Children Of God

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - God's Will - 1 John 3:1-3 - Children Of God- Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – God’s Will – 1 John 3:1-3 – Children Of God- Growing As Disciples

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure. 1 John 3:1-3 (ESV)

Look Like

Have you ever wondered what you will look like? I’m not sure what you mean. You do know that I am molding and shaping your life every day. You are the work of my hands. You are my masterpiece. I am making you into the person I have called you to be. I am helping you to live the life that I have called you to live. Yes, I know it is true that you are doing your work in me, for me and through me. There is not one part of my heart and mind and life that you are leaving untouched. Day-by-day you are changing my heart, transforming my mind and guiding my life. That’s right. So, I will ask you again, “Have you ever wondered what you will look like when you are my completed work?” That seems obvious to me. Really? Tell me what you will look like. I think you are asking me a trick question. Why do you say that? If you asked me to tell you who I would look like the answer might be too obvious. I’m sure that you wanted me to think about your question a little longer and far more deeply. That’s right. Anyhow, I know that you want me to look like your Son, Jesus Christ. That’s true.

How have I been changing you day-by-day? How have I been changing your heart, transforming your mind and guiding your life? You have been changing me day-by-day as I have come into your presence. I have met with you in your word. I have met with you in prayer. I have met with you in worship. You have allowed me to draw near to you. You have drawn near to me as I have drawn near to you. I cannot be in your presence and remain unchanged. That’s right. As I am in your presence you are making me to be like your Son. This work of yours will only end when I come to see you face to face. Then I will be completely changed. Now, I see in part, then I will see in full, then I will be completely changed. Yes, you will. Make this your hope. Yes Lord, I will.

Lord, it is so exciting that I will come to look like you. That is the desire of my heart and mind. That is the goal of my life. I want to think your thoughts, speak your words and do your deeds. Day by day make me like you until I come to see you face to face. Amen

Be Like Him

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Discipleship - 1 John 3:1-3 - Be Like Him- Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Discipleship – 1 John 3:1-3 – Be Like Him- Growing As Disciples

Like Me

Do you want to become like me? Yes Lord, I want to become like you. How do you want to become like me? I want to become like you in my thoughts. I want to become like you in my words. I want to become like you in my deeds. That is very good. You and I want the very same thing. I want you to become like me.

How do you think you will be able to become like me? I will never become like you by my own efforts. No, you will not. Only you can make me to be like you. That’s right. You started off making me to be like you on the day that you adopted me into your family. You made me to be your child. Yes, I did. A child always becomes like their parent. That’s true.

How do you think you will become more like me every day? That is a good question. I think I have a role and responsibility in becoming more like you. How so? I will become more like you as I spend time with you. I will become more like you as I draw near to you. I will become more like you as I am in your presence. I can’t spend time with you and remain unchanged. You will draw near to me as I draw near to you. Yes, I will. I can’t remain unchanged as I am in your presence. That’s right. So, your role and responsibility is to come to me. You need to make yourself available to me so that I can change your heart and mind and life. As I remain in your presence you will change everything about me. You will change the thoughts of my mind, the words of my mouth and the deeds of my life. Yes, I will.

When do you think I will finish my work? When will you be completely changed? Now, I see you in part. Now, I am being changed in part. One day, I will see you completely. Then I will be completely changed. That’s right. That is the hope I have in you. That is very good.

Lord, thank you for your love in making me to be your child. You loved me. Now, I love you. I know day by day you are changing me. You are making me to be like you in my thoughts, words and deeds. Keep on doing your work in me until I see you face to face. Amen
