Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Becoming Like Christ – Day 301 – 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3 – We Continually Remember – Growing As Disciples

We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers. We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3 (NIV)

Mentioning

That has not been my continual everyday practice, I can tell you that for sure. What has not been your continual everyday practice? I have not been mentioning my fellow coworkers in Christ, every day in my prayers. Do you believe that it is critically important to pray for your fellow coworkers in Christ? Yes, I do. Do you believe that I am asking you to pray for your fellow coworkers in Christ? Yes, I do. Do you know that I will hear and answer your prayers as you continue to pray for your fellow coworkers in Christ? Yes, I do. If you believe and know all of these things, why have you not been continually praying every day for your coworkers in Christ? I’m not sure. I may not have been thinking deeply about engaging in that kind of prayer. I will tell you one thing for certain. What’s that? I will start praying continually and daily for my fellow coworkers in Christ. That will be very good.

There is something else that I know I will need. What’s that? I will need your help. I will need you to give me prayers to pray. I will need you to guide my prayers. I will need you to teach and train me how to pray. Do you believe that I will do all these things for you as you meet with me in prayer? Yes, I do. What else do you believe? I believe that you will hear and answer my prayers. I believe that fruit will be born for your kingdom and glory will be brought to your name through the prayers that you give me to pray. I believe that work produced by faith will grow. I believe that labor prompted by love will grow. I believe that endurance inspired by hope in the Lord Jesus Christ will grow as you hear and answer not only my prayers but also all those who call on your name as they meet with you in prayer. Yes, all these things, and much more than you could hope for or even imagine will be accomplished as you and your fellow coworkers in Christ meet with me in prayer. Will you meet with me? Will you pray as I guide you? Yes, Heavenly Father, I will. That will be very good.

Heavenly Father, I will continue to pray for my fellow coworkers. Make us all faithful and fruitful workers in your kingdom. Help us to bear abundant fruit for you. Use our faith and hope and love in and for you to keep us joyously and energetically serving you. Amen

Key Question… How are you continually praying for your coworkers who are loving, following and serving the Lord?

The Prayer Filled Life – Day 97 – 1 Thessalonians 1-2-3 – We Continually Remember – Growing As Disciples

We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers. We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.                                  1 Thessalonians 1:2-3 (NIV)

Continually Remember

I am going to need help on this. You are going to need help on what? I am going to need help on continually remembering to pray for others. Why is that? Continually doing anything with great consistency does not come naturally to me. Even if I did continually remember when to pray, I am certain that, on my own, I would not know how to pray. So, you will need my help on both when and how to continually pray for others. That’s it. Do you know why you would not be successful on either one, without my help? I’m not sure. I’m not certain. You used the phrase, “on my own”. Yes, I did. Will prayer of any kind be something that you will do on your own, without my help? You are pointing out something that I need to continually remember. What’s that? You will give me prayers to pray. You will teach me when, and where, and how to pray. You will help me to pray prayers that you will hear and answer. Prayer doesn’t start with me. It is you that both gives and grants prayers to pray. It is your spirit living and dwelling in me that will guide my prayers. That is correct. So, I am never alone, all on my own, when I am praying. No, you are not. I will always have your help when I am praying. Yes, you will. As I draw near to you in prayer, you will draw near to me. Yes, I will. You will teach me. You will train me.  Yes, I will.

Let’s talk about how you can pray. I’m listening. Can you pray that other’s faith in me will lead to their doing good works for me? Yes, I can. Can you pray that other’s love for me will result in their engaging in joyous labor on my behalf? Yes, I can. Can you pray that other’s hope in me will have great endurance in serving me? Yes, I can. These are great places for you to start in your praying for others. Can you give thanks for all those who love and follow and serve me? Can you give thanks for all those who bear fruit for my kingdom and bring glory to my name? Yes, I can. Start praying for others in these ways. As you continue in prayer, as you keep on listening to me, I will show you how to pray even more specifically for those who are loving and following and serving me. Will you do this? Will you meet with me in prayer? Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good.

Lord, help me to continually remember in prayer those who love, follow, and serve. I will pray that their faith produces good work, their love prompts joyful labor, and that hope will inspire their endurance. Help us all to bear much fruit for your kingdom. Amen

Key Question…  How are you continually remembering in your daily prayers those who love, follow, and serve the Lord?

Living It Out…  Continually pray for the specific needs of those who love, follow, and serve the Lord.

Seeing It Happen…  Have faith that the Lord will hear and answer the specific prayers you pray for those who love, follow, and serve Him.

For All Of You

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Gratitude - 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3 - Encourage Others - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Gratitude – 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3 – Encourage Others – Growing As Disciples

We always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers. We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3 (NIV)

Encourage Others

What keeps you going? Why do you keep on loving, following and serving me? You keep me going. You have made me able to keep on loving, following and serving you. Without your help, I would have turned back long ago. You have strengthened my faith as I have served you. You have helped me to see that your hand has been on me as I have served you. Your love has prompted my labor. How so? Because you first loved me, I now love you. I am living in an ongoing love relationship with you. Whatever I have done, am doing or will do, is because I love you. I want to do what pleases you. I want to serve you in whatever way I am able. Every day as I follow you I am filled with hope. I can see that you are guarding and guiding my life. I know that you are leading me to where you want me to go to do what you want me to do. You are making me able to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. Yes, I am.

I am with you to help you. I will strengthen your faith. I will fan the flame of your love for me. I will fill you with hope that will give you strength to endure. I have no doubt about these things. That’s good. I do have a question for you. What’s that? Are you alone in your journey of faith? No, I am not. You are with me. Is anyone else with you? I’m not sure what you are asking me. Have I placed anyone in your life who has spurred you on in your faith? Yes, you have placed people in my life that have helped my faith and love and hope in you to grow strong. Who are they? What are their names? What have they done for you? I want you to think deeply about these questions. Remember these people in your prayers. Do for them, what they have done for you. Spur others on in their faith. Show others my love. Encourage others in their faith. You have received many blessings from others. Give to others the blessings you have received from me. Will you do this do me? Will you do this for others? Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good.

Lord, thank you for the people you have brought into my life. Their faith has grown mine. They have shown me your love. Their example has given me hope and spurred me on to keep on loving, following and serving you. I will continue to pray for them. Amen
