Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Becoming Like Christ – Day 91 – 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 – Perfect In Weakness – Growing As Disciples

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 (NIV)

Power

Well, this is certainly good news. What is good news? It is good news that your power is made perfect in my weakness. I take that to mean that your power and glory are best seen when you are doing in and through me what I could never have done on my own. Everyone, including me, will know that you have done in and through me what only you could have done. That’s right. In that way you will receive all the praise and honor and glory. That’s true.

Let’s talk more about this. I’m listening. Knowing what you know, what can you expect from me? I can expect you to give me assignments that I cannot accomplish with my own efforts alone. Why is that? You want me to come to rely on you. You want me to live in an intimate relationship with you. You want me to ask you for your help. You want to work in and through my weakness. Yes, I do.

What attitude must you have when I ask you to go and do something for me? I must have an attitude of faith to believe that you will make me able to do whatever you ask of me. What will happen to you as you go and do what I ask of you? I will come to know you more intimately as I rely on you. I will grow in my faith in you as I allow you to accomplish in and through me what I could have never done by myself. Yes, you will.

What will be the result of your allowing me to work in and through you? I will be an instrument in your hands. Your work will be accomplished. Your purposes and plans will be fulfilled. People will be drawn to you. Lives will be changed. Others will turn away from their life without you. Others will turn to follow you as their Savior and Lord. I will be able to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. I will store up treasure in heaven with you. One day I will hear you say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Yes, you will.

Will you do what I ask you? Will you take on the assignments I give you? Will you allow me to work in and through you? Yes, I will. That will be very good.

Lord, I have plenty of room for you to operate in my life. I have many weaknesses in which your power can be on display through my life. Thank you for being strong when I am weak. Thank you for making me able to bear much fruit for your kingdom and glory Amen

My Power

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Freedom - 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 - My Power - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Freedom – 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 – My Power – Growing As Disciples

My Weakness

I have so many weaknesses. I can’t imagine why I ever thought I could rely on my own strength. But, that’s exactly what I have done for many years. How many setbacks and failures has it taken for me to realize that I desperately need your help? At least you are learning lessons from your setbacks and failures. Some never come to realize that they need my help. They will live fruitless lives that will accomplish nothing of lasting, eternal value. Those who trust in themselves may look like they are accomplish a great deal. All that they will have done will amount to nothing without my power working through them. I don’t want to live that kind of life. I don’t want to walk down that path. I don’t want to go down that road. My life is in your hands. I want you to work in and through me. I want to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. That’s very good.

How will you rely on me? How will you allow me to replace your weakness with my strength? I will come to you to ask you for your help. I will ask you to make me able to do what you have given me to do for you. I will listen attentively to your instructions. I will closely follow your guidance. I will follow you to wherever you lead me. I will not run ahead of you. I will not lag behind you. I will do whatever you ask of me. In every hardship and difficulty, I will ask for your help. If I experience insults or suffer persecution I will ask for your strength. I will place all my hope and trust in you. You are my strength. You are my deliverer. I know that you will be with me every step of my life. That’s right.

What will happen as you rely on my power and strength? I will be able to do what I could not do by myself. I will know it. Others will know it. You will receive all the credit. You will receive all the praise and honor and glory for showing your power and strength in my weakness. So, now I know that I can be thankful for all my weaknesses that have caused me to come to rely on you. That is very good.

Lord, I have many weaknesses. I desperately need your power in my weakness. In my own strength, I am weak and can accomplish nothing. In my weakness with your power I can accomplish whatever you give me to do for you as I love, follow and serve you. Amen

Christ’s Power

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises - 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 - Christ's Power - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises Day 198 – 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 – Christ’s Power – Growing As Disciples

Your Power

You feel weak quite often don’t you? I’m not exactly sure what you mean. You feel unable to do what I am calling you to do, isn’t that right? Yes, that is right. It’s not all bad that you feel weak. Why is that? What’s the alternative? The opposite of feeling weak is feeling strong. You would much rather feel strong than weak, isn’t that true? Yes, that’s true. Would you rather that I gave you easier assignments? Would that make you feel stronger? Would you only like to do tasks for me that were easy to accomplish? That sounds boring to me. That’s what I knew you would say.

What has happened to you when I have given you a difficult assignment? My first reaction has been to feel weak and unable to do what you have asked me to do. Sometimes, I have tried to duck the assignment by asking to do something else that was easier. How has that worked out for you? You have not usually let me off the hook. You have continued to give me the difficult assignment. What has been your second reaction? Once I have said yes to you, I then begin to pray and ask for your help. Yes, that’s very good. So, would you say that your weakness has caused you to rely on my strength? Yes, that’s exactly what I would say. Isn’t that a very good thing? Yes, it is. If I gave you only easy tasks to do for me, who would you rely on for your strength? I would rely on myself. That’s not good is it? No, it is not.

When my power works through your weakness what happens? I am then able to bear an abundance of fruit for you. Who gets the glory for the fruit that I bear in and through your life? All the fruit that I bear is for your kingdom and your glory. People know that only your power working in and through me has accomplished what you have given me to do. Yes, that’s right. Would people see me working in and through your life in the very easy and boring tasks that you have sometimes wanted to do for me? No, they would not.

What has happened to your faith as I have worked powerfully in and through your weakness? My faith in you has grown as I have seen you do in and through me what only you could have done. Would your faith in me grow if I gave you only easy tasks to do for me? No, it would not.

Can you see that your weakness provides an opportunity for me to work in and through your life? Your weakness makes you rely on me. Your weakness helps you to bear more fruit for me. Your weakness allows your life to be a clearer and brighter witness for me. What do you think about your weakness now? My weakness allows your power to be on display in and through my life. Yes, it does. So, I am thankful that I am weak and you are strong. That’s very good.

Lord, I have so many weaknesses. You have so many different ways that you can powerfully work in and through my life for your glory. I will rely on you and your strength to enable me to do whatever you call me to do for you. Amen
