Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Becoming Like Christ – Day 176 – 2 Corinthians 5:7 – We Live By Faith – Growing As Disciples

We live by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV)

Steps Of Faith

Here I am. I am ready. You are ready for what? I am ready to take steps of faith with you. Really, what has made you ready to take steps of faith with me? Maybe saying I was ready to take steps of faith with you was somewhat of an overstatement. Maybe I should have said I am willing to take steps of faith with you. Why is that? I’m pretty sure that only you can make me fully able to take steps of faith with you. I know that taking steps of faith has not been my strongest quality or best ability. I have been reluctant. I have been hesitant. I have been timid. I have been fearful. I want no more of that. That’s good. I am ready to place all my faith in you. I know that you will help me to take steps of faith with you. I know that you will lead me to where you want me to go. I know that you will give me what you want me to do. No longer will I shrink back from your call on my life. I want to keep on moving forward with you. That is very good.

How do you suppose you will be able to keep on moving forward with me? I will hold on to you. I know that you will hold on to me. I will draw near to you. I know that you will draw near to me. I will follow you. I know that you will lead me. Yes, I will do all these things for you. I will also keep my heart and mind and life focused on you. I will take your word deep into my heart and mind and life. I will hold on to your promises. I will allow your promises to strengthen and sustain me. I will allow your promises to guard and guide me. I will allow you to strengthen me by your word. I will allow your Holy Spirit to take your word to use it to fight in me, with me, for me and through me as I go and do whatever you ask of me. To sum it all up, I will rely on you completely to help me to take steps of faith with you. So, I am asking you to grow my faith. I am asking you to help me to live by faith rather than by sight. I will hear and answer these prayers of yours. Thank you, Lord. Lead me, I will follow you. That will be very good.

Lord, I will not shrink back. I will not remain frozen in position. I will move forward with you. Help me to take steps of faith with you. Help me to live by faith rather than by sight. Lead me to where you want me to go. Give me all that you want me to do for you. Amen

Not By Sight

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Faith - 2 Corinthians 5:7 - Not By Sight - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Faith – 2 Corinthians 5:7 – Not By Sight – Growing As Disciples

We live by faith, not by sight.  2 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV)

Stop And Start

How will you live your life? How will you walk through life? Will you be filled with fear and doubt? Will you be timid and afraid? Will you be strong and bold? Those are all good questions. I know one thing for sure. What’s that? I would like to change how I have been walking through life. How so? I have been timidly walking through life. I have been filled with fear and doubt. I have been far from being strong and bold. Why is that? I have been trusting in myself and my abilities. I have been depending on what I can see and feel and touch. I have been relying on my experience. That’s not good. There is no wonder why you have been walking timidly through life. You will always come up short when you trust in yourself. You will always miss the mark when you rely on your experience. Your own gifts and talents and abilities will not carry you through life. What you can see and touch and feel is not a secure foundation for your faith. I know that is true. There is no doubt in me about that.

You have said that you want to change the way that you have been walking through life. That is true. What must you do differently if you want to walk boldly through life? I must not rely on myself. I must not trust in my experience. I must not depend on my own gifts, talents and abilities. That is what you must not do. I asked you what you must do? There is a big difference between those two questions. Why is that? You won’t be able to stop doing what must not do unless you start doing what you must do. I’m not sure that I understand. You won’t be able to stop trusting in yourself, unless you start trusting in me. You won’t be able to stop relying on your own gifts, talents and abilities unless you start allowing me to work in and through your life. You won’t be able to stop depending on what you can see and feel and touch unless you start listening to my voice and watch for my activity. You need to know in your heart and mind and soul that I am with you to help you. You are not on your own. You are not walking through life by yourself. I am with you to lead you. I am with you to guide you. I am with you to help you. I will be working in and through your life every step of your way. Will you keep your eyes on me? Will you listen to my voice? Will you watch for my activity? Will you join me in the work that I am doing? Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good.

Lord, I will live each day of my life by faith in you rather than by what I can see in the world. Help me to keep my heart and mind and life focused on you. Guide all my thoughts, words and actions by all I have in you now and forever. Amen
