Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – God The Father – Ephesians 3:20-21 – Able To Do – Growing As Disciples

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21 (NIV)

My Power 

My power is at work in you. My favor will rest on you. I will do in and through you far beyond what you could think to ask or even imagine.  You will go places that are unfamiliar. You will do what was unexpected. How does this sound to you so far? It sounds exciting. It sounds scary. It sounds challenging. It will be all of that and then some.

Why does my working in and through you sound exciting? You will be leading and guiding me to the unknown to do the unanticipated. Where I could think of going and what I could dream of doing is common and routine and familiar. My thoughts and plans and ideas are boring in contrast to yours. Yes, they are.

Why does my working in and through you sound scary? The unknown and unplanned is a little scary. I like to know where I am going. I like to know what I will be doing. Do you want your plan, or do you want my plan? I certainly don’t want my plan over your plan. I will follow you to where you lead me to do what you ask of me. That will be very good.

Why does my working in and through you sound challenging? I know that you will ask me to go and do what I cannot do without your help. I will need to follow your guidance. I will need to listen to your instructions. I will need your power to be at work in and through me so I can accomplish your purposes and fulfill your plans. Yes, you will.

What will happen to you as you allow me to work in and through you? I will be changed. I will be transformed. How so? I will think your thoughts. I will speak your words. I will do your deeds.  I will become your witness in the world. I will shine brightly for you. I will bring glory to your name as I go and do all that you ask of me. Others will be drawn to you because they will see your life being lived out in and through me. Yes, they will.

Are you ready to follow me? Are you ready to go where I ask you? Are you ready to do what I give you? Yes Lord, I am. Good, then expect what you can’t imagine as you love, follow and serve me. Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good.

Lord, you have placed this desire and request in my heart. I’m asking you to do in, for and through me what I can’t begin to think, ask or imagine myself. I will go where you lead and do whatever you ask of me. Use me for your glory. I will rely on you for all I need. Amen
