Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 128 - Acts 4:13 - Saw The Courage - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 128 – Acts 4:13 – Saw The Courage – Growing As Disciples

When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus. Acts 4:13 (NIV)

With Me

What will happen to you when you spend time with me? That is a good question. That is a question that has no short and simple answer. That is a question that no doubt will have answers that will unfold in different ways during the entire course of my life. I now know some of the answers to your question. Many answers to your question are completely unknown to me, at this time. Start with what you know. I know that I will be changed in your presence. You will make me to be more like you every day as I spend time with you. How so? I will come to know you. I will come to love you. I will come to be fully devoted to you. I will begin to think your thoughts, speak your words and take your actions. I will live a life that is good and right and pleasing to you. Why is that? As I spend time in your presence, I will come to know your will. As I spend time in your presence, you will help me to walk in your ways. You will make me able to resist temptation. You will make me able to stand against evil. As I draw near to you, and submit myself to you, the devil and all his evil will flee from my life. Yes, all these things will happen to you as you spend time in my presence.

What will I do through you as you spend time in my presence? You will make me to be a bold witness for you in the world. You will make me able to speak and act with courage. You will make me able to shine brightly for you in the darkness of the world. You will make me able to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. Yes, I will do all these things through you as you spend time with me.

What will others notice about you as you spend time in my presence? Others will notice that your light and life is shining and being lived out in and through me. They will see your love and kindness and mercy being expressed through me. Others will want to come to know and love and follow you because of what they see of you in me. Yes, this is what others will see in you as you spend time with me. Will you make spending time with me the priority of your daily life? Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good.

Lord, I am tired of being timid. I lack courage and boldness. I want to be powerfully used as your witness in the world. Help me to shine brightly for you. Give me courage and boldness as I spend time with you. Cause others to take note that I have been with you. Amen

Key Question… How has spending time with the Jesus Christ caused you to more boldly be used by Him?

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Becoming Like Christ – Day 128 – Acts 4:13 – These Men Had Been With Jesus – Growing As Disciples

When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus. Acts 4:13 (NIV)

Notice

That’s exactly what I want. What is exactly what you want? I want my life to be noticeably different because I have been spending time with you. How do you want your life to be different? I want my life to be less like my life and more like your life. How so? I want to think like you think. I want to speak like you speak. I want to act like you act. As I spend time in your presence I want to be totally changed. I want less of me and more of you. I want there to be no other explanation for the way that I think and speak and act than that I have been with you. I want others to see your life being boldly and brightly and courageously being lived out in and through me. I want others to be drawn to you because of what they see of you in me. Does that make sense? Is that possible? Is that a great desire and a good prayer? What do you think? I think these desires have developed in me only because I have been in your presence. I certainly wouldn’t have been able to conceive these desires within me. You have given me a hunger to know you. You have made it my passion to become like you. These desires so dominate my life that I want nothing less or more or else. I will be most thankful for all the work you have done, are doing and will do in and through me. There is something else I want to make clear to you and to myself. What’s that? I want none of these things for myself. I want to become more like you so that I can bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. I am not trying to be somebody. I am not trying to make a name for myself. I will be happy to be your humble servant. I will be pleased if I can serve like you served. I want to give like you gave. I want to love like you loved. There is something else that I know. What’s that? You have given me these desires. You will fulfill these desires. As I remain in your presence, I cannot be unchanged. We both want the same thing. I want to become like you. You want me to become like you. So, I will continue to allow you to do your work in and through me. That will be very good. I will change you. I will mold you. I will shape you. Others will notice that you have been with me. I will make you a bold and bright and courageous witness in the world for me as you continue to remain in my presence. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, the world is trying to pull me in a thousand different directions. Busyness is what will prevent me from spending time with you. Help me to set aside a daily time and place where I can spend time with you. Make me more like you as I am in your presence. Amen

Key Question… Why is it impossible to be with Jesus and remained unchanged in the way you think, speak and act?

Living It Out…  Make it your daily practice to spend time with Jesus so that you can become more like Him.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that the Lord will dramatically change everything about you as you spend time with Him.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group what has helped or hindered you in spending time with Jesus.

Prayer To Bless Others… May you spend time with Jesus so you can become more like Him.

Saw The Boldness

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Knowing God - Acts 4:13 - Saw The Boldness - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Knowing God – Acts 4:13 – Saw The Boldness – Growing As Disciples

Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus. Acts 4:13 (ESV)

In Your Presence

Do you want to be a bold and courageous witness for me? Do you want me to use you to do extraordinary ministry to others? Do you want to bear an abundance of fruit for my kingdom and bring glory to my name? Yes, I want to be a bold and courageous witness for you. Yes, I want you to use me to do extraordinary ministry to others. Yes, I want to bear an abundance of fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. These are all prayers and desires of my heart. Do you believe that I have both given and will grant these desires and prayers of your heart? Yes, I do believe that you have given and will grant these desires and prayers of my heart. You are right to believe that I will hear and answer these prayers and desires of your heart.

Under what conditions do you think I will grant these prayers and desires of your heart? I’m not sure what you mean. What will be required of you for me to be able to grant these prayers and desires of your heart? You expect me to be able to answer that question? Yes, I do. Would you like some help? Yes, I need all the help that you will give to me. I will ask you some more questions. That will help me? Yes, it will. Have you always been a bold and courageous witness for me? No, I have at many times been a weak and feeble witness for you. Have you regularly been extraordinarily used by me to minister to others? No, I have seldom been extraordinarily used by you to minister to others. Have you born an abundance of fruit for my kingdom and brought glory to my name? I have born some fruit and brought some glory to your name. I can see that my questions are a little discouraging to you. Yes, I would like to answer your questions more positively. I would like to be bold, courageous and more fruitful for you. I would like to bring glory to your name. Yes, I can see that. What has been the problem? Why haven’t you been more bold and courageous and fruitful for me? I have been relying on my own power and strength. I have not been relying on you to make me bold, courageous and fruitful. What would your life look like if you were to rely on me to make you bold, courageous and fruitful? I would come to you. I would spend time with you. I would remain in your presence. I would allow you to teach me. I would allow you to empower me to do the ministry that you have given me to do for you. Yes, you would. Is that what you will now do? Yes Lord, I will. Teach, train and empower me to be your witness and minister to others as I remain in your presence. Help me to bear an abundance of fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. Yes, I will.

Lord, I have tried to be your witness and minister with my own power and strength. What a weak and feeble effort that has been. Only you can make be bold and courageous. Only you can do extraordinary ministry to others through me. Use me for your glory. Amen

Took Note That These Men Had Been With Jesus

The Prayer Filled Life - Day 78 - Acts 4-13 - Took Note That These Men Had Been With Jesus - Growing As Disciples

The Prayer Filled Life – Day 78 – Acts 4-13 – Took Note That These Men Had Been With Jesus – Growing As Disciples

When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus. Acts 4:13 (NIV)

Take Note

That is what I want. What do you want? As I spend time with you, as I am in your presence I want to be changed. I want you to change me into a completely different person. I want no part of my life to be left untouched by you. I want you to mold and shape my life according to your will. I want you to work in and through me to accomplish your purposes and fulfill your plans. I want you to do in and through me what I could never do by myself. I want to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. So, we want the same things. We do? Yes, we do. I want others to be astonished at how I have changed your heart, transformed your mind, and guided your life. I want others to know that I am powerfully working in and through you for my kingdom and glory. I want you to be a bold and bright witness for me. I want you to shine brightly in the darkness of this world. I want others to take note that you have been with me, that you are a constant companion of mine. So, we want the same things. That is what I told you.

So, what will you do if you want all these things to be true of you? As I have said, I will meet with you. I will be your constant companion. I will not only meet with you daily, but I will walk with you continually. My heart and mind and life will be focused on you. I will listen attentively to your voice. I will meet with you in your word. I will follow you to where you lead me. I will do whatever you ask me. I will live to know and do your will. My heart and mind and life will be sharply focused on you. That will be very good. You will live the life I have given you to live. You will be the person I have called you to be. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, I will be your constant companion. I will make meeting with you, and walking with you, my priority. Change my heart, transform my mind, and guide my life as I meet with you. Help me to accomplish your purposes and plans. Work in and through me. Amen

Had Been With Jesus

The Sacramental Life - Day 328 - Acts 4:13 - Had Been With Jesus - Growing As Disciples

The Sacramental Life – Day 328 – Acts 4:13 – Had Been With Jesus – Growing As Disciples

When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus. Acts 4:13 (NIV)

Become Like Me

Do you want to become like me? Is that even a possibility? Is that even a legitimate question? Would I ask you an illegitimate question? Would I ask you to consider something that is impossible? No, you would not ask me an illegitimate or impossible question. How can I become like you? How can I think and speak and act like you? Isn’t the answer obvious to you? Not real obvious to me, no. I do know how I will never become like you. How is that? I will never become like you as a result of my own efforts. I cannot make myself to be like you. I cannot become like you by trying harder to be better. Believe me I have given by best self-efforts. I have failed miserable at trying harder and harder to be like you. That certainly is not the answer. No. it is not. You can give up on that. You can quit trying harder to be like me. That sounds odd to me. I can understand how it might.

Here is the truth, only I can make you to be like me. I can teach you. I can train you. I can mold and shape you. I can change your heart. I can transform your mind. I can guard and guide your life. You can do none of these things for yourself. I know that to be true. Now, before you think that you have no role in becoming like me, I want to quickly correct your thinking. You have a critical role in becoming like me. What is my role? Your role is to draw near to me. Your role is to come to me. Your role is to remain in my presence. If you do not fulfill your role, you will never become like me. In my presence, you will be changed. In my presence, you will be transformed. Can you see how vital your role is in becoming like me? You can choose to be everywhere and anywhere else but in my presence. With that choice you will never change. With that choice you will never become like me. You will never come to know me. You will never be able to think and speak and act like me. You will never be able to know and do my will. I do see my vital role in becoming like you. I will draw near to you. I will come to you. I will remain in your presence. That will be very good. Then you will become like me. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, I will come to you. I will draw near to you. I will rest in your presence. I will listen attentively to you. As I remain in your presence change my heart, transform my mind, and guide my life. Make me to be like you in all that I think, and say, and do. Amen

Key Question…  How is remaining in the Lord’s presence giving you courage and enabling you to be a bold witness for Him?

Living It Out…  Spend time with Jesus so you can become like Him.

Seeing It Happen…  Have faith that you will be changed as you spend time with Jesus.

Get Ready To Share…  Share with another person or your small group how you are being changed as you spend time with Jesus.

Saw The Courage

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Discipleship - Acts 4:13 - Saw The Courage - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Discipleship – Acts 4:13 – Saw The Courage – Growing As Disciples

When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus. Acts 4:13 (NIV)

Took Note

What is noteworthy about your life? What would you like to stand out about you? What would like others to think about you? What would you like to be remembered for when your life is all said and done? What would you like to be the legacy of your life? When people think about me, I would like them to think of you. I would like my life to be a bold witness for you. I would like my life to be like a light that draws others to you. I want people to know that you are living in and through my life. When my life is done, I would like it said that I knew you. I would like my life to leave a legacy based on my going and doing your will. I will have wanted to accomplish your purposes and fulfill your plans for my life. Nothing could be more noteworthy about my life than knowing and doing your will. That’s true.

How will your life become noteworthy? How will you come to know and do my will? How will you be able to accomplish my purposes and fulfill my plans for your life? How will you become my witness in the world? How will people be able to recognize that I am living in and through your life? None of these things will come by efforts. I could work myself to the bone and never ever be able to accomplish any of these things. Only you can accomplish these things in and through my life. As I come into your presence I will be changed. It is you who will change my heart, transform my mind and guide my life. You will make me able to know and do your will. As I meet with you, I will become more like you. You will give me all that I need to serve you, as I continue to meet with you. You will make me bold. You will give me strength. You will make me courageous. You make me able to do only what you could do in and through me. Apart from you I can do nothing. With you, I can do everything that you will call me to do for you. It is you that will make me a bold and bright and courageous witness in the world, of that, I am certain. That’s right. That is very good. I will certainly do what you have asked of me. I will use your life to bear fruit for my kingdom and bring glory to my name. Draw near to me now. Yes Lord, I will.

Lord, there is no place I would rather be than in your presence. There is nothing I would rather do than meet with you. In your presence, you change my heart and transform my mind. Make me to be more like you. Help me to be your witness in the world. Amen
