Words May Be Given Me

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Mouth – Ephesians 6:19-20 – Words May Be Given Me – Growing As Disciples

Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should. Ephesians 6:19-20 (NIV)

Declare My Word

What would it take for you to open your mouth to speak confidently and boldly for me? I would need to know several things from you. I’m listening. I would need to know without a doubt that you are asking me to speak for you. If I have any uncertainty about that I would never have the confidence or boldness to declare your word. No, you would not. Let me be very clear on this point. I want you to confidently and boldly declare my word to others.

What else would you need from me? I would also need to know that you would give me the words that you want me to declare to others. It would never work if I ended up declaring my own words to others. That would not be your message. There would be no fruit in that. There would be no confidence or boldness in me speaking my own words. You’re right about that. What do you think the chances are that I would not give you the words that I want you to speak for me? If I come to you to ask you for the words that you want me to confidently and boldly declare to others then I am positive that I would receive them from you. That’s right. When you rely on me, then you will have the words that I want you to confidently and boldly declare to others. As you rely on me you can be very sure that when you open your mouth my words will come out.

What else would you need from me? I would need your hand on me. I would need to be filled with the fullness of your Spirit. I would not only need your words. I would actually need you to be speaking through me. That’s also true. When do you think you will have the fullness of my Spirit speaking through you? I’m not sure what you mean. Will you have the fullness of my Spirit speaking through you before you start speaking? No, I don’t think so. I don’t know how that would be possible. It is not possible. You will have the fullness of my Spirit as I am speaking through you but not before you start speaking. So, there is an element of faith and trust in you allowing me to speak confident and boldly for you? That’s right. Will you step forward to confidently and boldly declare my word? Yes Lord, I will.

Lord, I don’t want to open up my mouth and have no words come out. I don’t want to open up my mouth and have my words come out. I pray that you will speak through me. Give me your words and your power as I speak for you. Amen

Always Keep On Praying

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - The Sacramental Life - The Spirit Empowered Life - Day 145 - Ephesians 6-18-20 - Always Keep On Praying - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – The Sacramental Life – The Spirit Empowered Life – Day 145 – Ephesians 6-18-20 – Always Keep On Praying – Growing As Disciples

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.  Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel,  for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should. Ephesians 6:18-20 (NIV)

Alert And Praying

That is my prayer. What is your prayer? I want to be alert and praying to you, on all the occasions of my life. I don’t want to be dull and unaware and unfocused in my prayers. I want to listen attentively to you. I want to rely on you. I want to ask for your help. I want you to give me prayers to pray. I want you to guide the prayers I pray for others. I want to receive from you all that I need to do the work of ministry I have been given to do. You know that at many times and in many ways I have been timid. Yes, I have noticed. Well, how about no more of that from me? I know that you can make me fearless. I know that you can powerfully work in and through me. I know that you can give me bold thoughts to think, words to speak and actions to take. You can make me fearless in all that I think and say and do. Yes, I can. Is that a prayer you would like to pray? Yes, I would like to pray that prayer not only for myself but also for all others who know, love, follow, and serve the Lord. What is the motive of your prayer? That is a very good question to which I would like to give a very clear answer. I want to serve the Lord well. I want to bear an abundance of fruit for His kingdom. I want to bring glory to His name. I want a rich harvest of people to come to know and love and follow and serve Him. So, in other words, I am asking for your power not for myself. I am asking for your power so that I can be powerfully used to minister to others. I am praying the same prayer for others so that they will likewise be powerfully used in ministry. You are praying a good prayer. You have a good motive and great desire in your heart. I will tell you a secret. What’s that? This prayer comes from me. You can confidently keep on praying to me for power to do the work of ministry. That I will do, along with a host of other daily prayers. That will be very good.

Holy Spirit, fill me with prayers to pray on every occasion of my life. Help me to be watchful and prayerful. Help me to keep on praying for my fellow followers of Christ. Empower me to do the ministry I have been given. Help me to fearlessly declare the Gospel. Amen

Make Known The Mystery Of The Gospel

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – So That – Ephesians 6:18-20 – Make Known The Mystery Of The Gospel – Growing As Disciples

Fearlessly

Now that’s a word that has your attention. What’s that? Oh, you don’t know what I’m talking about? I suppose that I do know what you are talking about. You’re asking me about that word fearlessly. Yes, that’s right. You would like to minister to others without fear, wouldn’t you? You would like to proclaim the Gospel without any anxiety or apprehensions, isn’t that right? Yes, that’s right. If you had absolutely no fear would you rely on me? If you were completely without any anxiety would you ask me for my help? Those are great questions. You don’t even have to think about those questions. You know the answers without any hesitation, isn’t that right? Yes, I’m pretty sure that if I had no fear, anxiety or apprehensions I would most likely rely on myself and not on you. Is there any doubt in your mind? No, there is no doubt in my mind.

You have tried mightily to avoid fear, anxiety and apprehension when you have served me. You have looked for and chosen relatively easy assignments. Yes, I have done that. Have you found easy assignments that cause you no fear, anxiety or apprehension to be immensely fruitful and highly rewarding? No, not really. No, not at all.  Assignments that have no challenge are bland, mundane and boring. I am weary of doing very little and accomplishing even less. Do you think that it has been my will for you to choose bland, mundane and boring assignments? No, I don’t think so. What do you think my assignments for you might look like? I’m pretty sure that your assignments will ask me for more than I can handle. Your assignments will no doubt stretch me beyond my abilities. What you give me to do will cause me to cry out to you in prayer to ask you for your help. Yes, It will. You will give me all that I need to do what you have given me to do. Yes, I will. But, you will only give it to me, as I ask you for it, at the time that I need it. Why is that? You want me to rely on you. You want my faith in you to grow. You want me to come to you in prayer to ask you for all that I need. Yes, I do. Is that it? Can you think of any more reasons why I want you to come to me to ask me for what you need? You want me to live in a relationship with you. You want me to know that you really are working in and though my life. Yes, I do. Would you want it any other way? No, I would not.

Lord, thank you that you have given me all I need to minister to those in need. Help me to be alert and constantly ready to pray for the needs of others. Open my mouth and give me your words to enable me to fearlessly proclaim the Gospel. Amen
