Armor Of God

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – God’s Will – Ephesians 6-10-13 – Armor Of God – Growing As Disciples

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Ephesians 6:10-13 (ESV)

Stand

Do you want to be able to withstand evil that is in the world? Yes, I do? How can I do that? You are already headed in the wrong direction. I have hardly said anything. How could I already be headed in the wrong direction? Think about it. What did you ask me? Oh, I see or at least I think I do. You see what? I can’t withstand evil in the world, not by myself, that’s for sure. You got that right. How have you faired when you have relied on yourself to fight evil in the world? I have suffered miserable defeats when I have tried to fight the world’s evil with my own strength. I have been overrun. I have been trampled under. I have been laid low. I have been squashed flat. That’s true.

You must recognize one thing and do another when you are facing evil that is in the world. You have my full attention. What must I recognize? You must recognize that your battles with evil are not against flesh and blood. You must recognize the devil’s schemes. You must understand when your battles are against supernatural evil in the world. There are rulers and authorities and cosmic powers and spiritual forces of evil that will war against you. Why must I recognize this? When you recognize that you are fighting against supernatural evil you will never be tempted to rely on your own strength. You will know without a doubt that you must come to rely on me. I will do that. That will be very good.

You said I must recognize one thing and do another. I did. We have already talked about what I must recognize. That’s right. What must I do? We talked about that a little bit already as well. You must come to rely on me. How must I come to rely on you? You must put on the full armor of God. Each piece of the armor I give you will make you able to withstand and defeat evil. Will you put on my armor so that you can withstand and defeat evil? Yes, I will. That will be very good.

Lord, I have mistakenly tried to fight spiritual evil in the world with my own flesh and blood. My efforts have led to a miserable defeat. Help me to rely on your help by putting on the full armor of God. Make me able to withstand and defeat evil in the world. Amen

Put On The Full Armor Of God

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Discipleship - Ephesians 6:10-13 - Put On The Full Armor Of God - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Discipleship – Ephesians 6:10-13 – Put On The Full Armor Of God – Growing As Disciples

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Ephesians 6:10-13 (NIV)

Stand Your Ground

Don’t be surprised. Don’t be surprised about what? There are two things that I don’t want you to be surprised about. First, don’t be surprised that many of your battles in life will not be against flesh and blood. You may think that a battle is strictly against flesh and blood, in many case that will be incorrect. It would be better to assume that a battle you are facing is against spiritual forces of evil in the world, rather than against flesh and blood. You may think that conflicting worldly thoughts, opinions and values are simply someone’s worldly belief system. That would also be incorrect. The evil ruler of this world has a strong grip on the unguarded thoughts and values and opinions that are firmly held by many in this world. So, you will need to think and act and move differently against evil in this world. How so? You will not be able to rely on the strength of any human effort to win battles over spiritual evil that is in the world. You must watch and pray. You must rely on me. You must rely on my power and strength to give you victories over evil that is in the world. Will you rely on me? Yes Lord, I will rely on you. That will be very good.

What else don’t you want me to be surprised about? I don’t want you to be surprised when you face battles with evil in the world. Don’t think that they will be rare. Don’t be surprised when they come upon you. Be ready, at all times, to face battles with the devil and all his evil in the world. How can I always be ready to face the devil and his evil in the world? You must put on the full armor that I have given to you. Live in the truth that you have in me. Allow the truth you have in me to continue to keep you free from evil. Live and walk in my truth. Don’t allow yourself to become entangled in deceitful evil. Live the righteous life that I have called you to live. Don’t go where you shouldn’t go. Don’t do what you shouldn’t do. Live out the gospel. Be always ready to share the hope you have in me. Let your faith in me be a shield to protect you from the world. Don’t allow fiery arrows of doubt to come near you. Let your heart and mind and life be guarded and guided by my word. Allow my word to guide the thoughts of your mind, words of your mouth and deeds of your life. Allow my Spirit to use my word to fight in you, with you, for you and through you. Finally keep watch. Keep praying. Pray for yourself. Pray for others. Live a life of prayer as you walk through life with me. These things, I will do with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. Then you will be able to stand your ground. Then you will live and walk in victory. That will be very good.

Lord, I know I am not fighting solely against flesh and blood. I know I am certain to come under attack of spiritual evil. Help me to put on your full armor. Protect me against attack. Make me able to stand against evil. Fight in me, with me, for me and through me. Amen

Key Question… How has the word of God, which is the sword of the Spirit, made you able to stand against evil?

Living It Out… Put on the full armor of God so that you will be able to stand against evil in this world.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that putting on the full armor of God will make you able to stand against evil in this world.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how the armor of God is making you able to stand against evil.

Put On All Of God’s Armor

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 261- Ephesians 6:10-13 - Put On All Of God's Armor - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 261- Ephesians 6:10-13 – Put On All Of God’s Armor – Growing As Disciples

A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.  For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.  Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Ephesians 6:10-13 (NLT)

Stand Firm And Fight

You are in a battle. You are in a war. You may not have realized it. You may have been unaware of it. You may have thought that all your trials and troubles, and struggles and conflicts, were simply flesh and blood type struggles. You may have thought you were simply facing difficulties of a relational nature with unpleasant and disagreeable people in the world. There is no wonder why that has been your dominant thought, plenty of that is also taking place in the world. Make sure that you are not one of those unpleasant and disagreeable people. Make sure that you are winsome and pleasant and attractive, spreading the fragrance of me everywhere. That I will do. That will be very good.

But you are also in a battle with supernatural evil. You are in a war with the devil and all his evil spirits. Be sure of this, there is an unseen world of evil rulers, and authorities, and powers. Their schemes and strategies are evil and filled with darkness. Their goal is to steal, kill and destroy life. Wherever there is death and destruction, wickedness and ungodliness, disunity, and strife, you can be sure that this dark evil is close at hand and at work. The goal of this evil is to darken hearts and minds and lives so that a multitude will never come to know and love and follow and serve me. It is their plan to prevent fruit from being born for my kingdom and glory being brought to my name.

All alone, by yourself, with your own power and strength, you will never be able to stand and fight against this evil and darkness that is in the world. What must I do to be able to stand and fight against this evil and darkness? You must be strong in my might power. You must come to rely fully on me. You must put on the full armor that I have made available to you. That I will do. Then I will fight in you, with you, for you and through you. Then I will bring you victory over the evil and darkness that is in the world. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, many times I have mistakenly thought my battles were against flesh and blood enemies. Thank you for helping me to see when I am really battling evil that is in the world. Thank you, that I rely on all your power to help me stand and fight against evil. Amen

Key Question…  How are you relying on God’s power to stand and fight against evil in the world?

Living It Out…  Rely on the power of God to stand and fight against evil in the world.

Seeing It Happen…  Have faith that God will give you power and make you able to stand and fight against evil in the world.

Get Ready To Share…  Share with another person or your small group how God has given you power to stand and fight against evil in the world.

Prayer To Bless Others…  May you rely on the power of God to stand and fight against evil in the world.

Be Strong In The Lord

Open My Eyes

I would like you to open my eyes. How do you want me to open your eyes? What do you want me to help you to see? Let me tell you. I have been very slow to recognize spiritual battles. Often times, I have thought that I was just facing routine difficulties and significant trials. Do you see things differently now? Yes, I do. I can look back, with the benefit of hindsight, and often understand when I have gone through far more than a battle with flesh and blood. It is good that you are evaluating and reflecting on the experiences you have gone through in the past. Why is that? You tell me. Recognizing what I have gone through in the past will help me to better understand what I am going though now or will go through in the future. That’s right. Let me ask you a question. Go ahead, I’m listening. Have you ever come into a difficult and trying situation and thought, “I’ve been here and done that before?” Yes, I have had that experience before. Some difficult and trying spiritual battles have repeated themselves. Have you responded differently because you have had a prior experience with a difficult and significant spiritual battle? There is no doubt about that. How so? I have been able to say to myself, “Last time I went through this similar spiritual battle I relied on myself and it didn’t go well.” With that in mind, I have much more quickly and eagerly come to ask you for your help. Instead of trying to fight with my own wisdom and power and strength, I have cried out to you. Instead of taking my own ineffective action, I have turned to you in prayer. You have given me your wisdom and understanding. You have given me your power and strength. You have led me on a course of action. You have guarded and guided my path.  Instead of suffering a humiliating defeat; you have led me in victory. So, what will you do differently with any difficulty and trial you face? I will turn to you. I will ask for your help. I will rely on you instead of relying on myself. Are your eyes now open? Do you now have a different understanding? Have I answered your prayer? Yes, you have answered my prayer. That is very good.

Lord, I have been slow to recognize when I have been in far more than a flesh and blood battle. Help me to recognize the devil’s schemes. Help me to put on your armor and be strong with your mighty power so I can stand against evil attacks of every kind. Amen

Key Question… How have you come to rely on the Lord and His power to help you to stand against evil?

Living It Out… Rely on the Lord to help you to stand against attacks of evil of every kind.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that the Lord will help you to stand against the attacks of evil of every kind.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how you are relying on the Lord to help you to stand against evil.

Prayer To Bless Others… May you be strong with the strength the Lord will give you to stand against evil of every kind.

Take Up The Whole Armor Of God

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Therefore – Ephesians 6:10-13 – Take Up The Whole Armor Of God – Growing As Disciples

Stand And Fight

This world is a broken place. You know that. Yes, I do. This world is filled with sin and evil of every kind. You also know that. Yes, I do. You already know that you must stand and fight against evil that comes against you personally. Yes, I know that as well. What you do not know well yet is that I have called you to take a stand and fight against evil in the world. Now you have my full attention. Now, you are telling me something new. I’m not now telling you something new. You are now hearing me speak to you in ways that you have never heard me speaking to you before. I was speaking. You were not hearing and listening well to what I had to say to you.  In the past you have thought that your battles against evil were primarily personal and individual. You will still face those kinds of battles in life. Make no mistake about that. You will still need to be prayerful and watchful regarding your personal and individual battles with evil in the world as you follow and serve me. I will. That will be very good.

Have you not noticed what makes you angry? Angry? How does my anger have anything to do with your calling me to fight evil in the world? Do I really have to answer that question for you? I think maybe I could answer that question. But, I really want to hear you answering it for me. It would help me. I would be greatly encouraged by hearing your answer. All right then, I will answer this question for you. You get angry when you see injustice in the world. You get angry when you see people being treated unfairly. You get angry when anyone is being abused and mistreated. That is your hot button. That is what gets you motivated. This is what drives you nuts. Look where I have led you. Look at how I have used you. You have wanted to right wrongs. You have wanted to come to the aid of those who have been unjustly and unfairly treated. You have wanted to help those who have been bruised and battered by life. Does any of this surprise you? No, not really, not at all. This is how I have created you. This is how I want to use you. This is how I will be using you in the future. Get ready to take a stand and fight. I will be with you to help you. Yes Lord, I will.

Lord, I know I will never be able to stand against the devil and his evil with my own strength. Thank you for your armor that will protect me from him. I will take on all the strength you give me. I will put on your armor so I can fight against evil in this world. Amen

Put On The Full Armor Of God

Discipleship Study - Rhythms - Ephesians 6:10-13 - Put On The Full Armor Of God - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Study – Rhythms – Ephesians 6:10-13 – Put On The Full Armor Of God – Growing As Disciples

Your Stand

Do you want to be able to stand against the devil and all his evil? Do you want to be able to resist his tactics and schemes? Yes, I want to be able to stand against the devil and all his evil. Yes, I want to be able to resist his tactics and schemes? What must I do to resist him and stand against his evil? That is a very good question with several different answers. First, you must admit that you don’t have the strength and power to stand against the devil and all his evil. To rely on your own power and strength against him would be based on foolish pride and lead to your certain defeat. I have no doubt about that. I will not be relying on my own power and strength to stand against the devil. That’s a good start.

Next you must know that you will face struggles in life that are from the devil and all his evil. You will have battles that are not against flesh and blood but are against the devil and his evil that is in the world. You must be watchful. You must be vigilant. You must be on guard. The devil’s schemes and tactics are very deceptive and alluring. You must not allow yourself to fall into his traps. You must separate yourself from the devil and all his evil. Do not linger around temptation. Do not hang out with evil. Run away from evil of every kind.

Now let’s talk about the armor with which I will clothe you. You must put on all the armor that I have made for you. Every piece is of vital importance. Each piece of my armor will guard and protect you. My armor will protect your heart and your mind. My armor will guard the course of your life. My armor will direct your paths. My armor will guide your prayers. My armor will protect you from every one of the devil’s attacks. My armor will shield you from every evil. My armor will strengthen your faith. My armor will give you hope. My armor will make you able to engage in the battles that you will surely face in life. Each and every day you must wear the armor that I have made for you. Not one day will you be well suited without my armor. Will you wear my armor? Will you rely on my strength? Will you allow me to fight with you in the battles of life? Yes Lord, I will. Then you will be able to take your stand with me.

Lord, I cannot stand against the devil and all his evil under my own power and strength. Only you can make me able to stand against the devil’s tactics and schemes. Help me to put on your full armor so that I will be able to withstand his attacks. Amen
