Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Miracles – Daniel 3:24-25 – Walking Around In The Fire – Growing As Disciples

Then King Nebuchadnezzar leaped to his feet in amazement and asked his advisers, “Weren’t there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire?” They replied, “Certainly, O king.” He said, “Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.” Daniel 3:24-25 (NIV)

Fiery Trials

You have experienced the heat. You have felt the pressure. You have gone through fiery trials in life. No kidding, you don’t need to remind me. My past fiery trials are all too present in my memory. Is that right? Yes, that is right. Tell me what you remember about the fiery trials you have gone through. I do remember the pain and suffering and difficulty. But, that is not what I remember most of all. What do you remember most of all? I remember crying out to you in prayer. I remember desperately asking for your help. Really? Yes, really. Did I hear and answer your prayers? Did I come to your aid? Was I close to you when you were broken hearted? Yes, you did. Yes, you were. You comforted me in my affliction. You healed my hurts. You helped me in my need. You have brought me through every fiery trial in life. Yes, I have. That is what I remember most of all. That’s good.

What have you learned because you have gone through fiery trials in life? I have learned to come to rely on you. I have come to know that I don’t need to be desperate. Why is that? I have come to understand that you are always with me to help me. I can trust you. I can rely on you. I can turn to you in prayer. I can ask for your help. You will not leave me all alone. You will not forget me. You will not forsake me. No, I will not. You will hear and answer my prayers. You will help me through every fiery trial in life as I keep my heart and mind and life focused on you. Yes, I will.

How have I used fiery trials in your life? I know that you are not the origin of my fiery trials. This sin broken world is filled with fiery trials that are common to mankind. That’s true. You can and do use fiery trials for my good. How so? Fiery trials have drawn me closer to you. Fiery trials have caused me to rely on you. As I have gone through fiery trials I have become a brighter and more vibrant witness for you. How so? Drawing closer to you and relying more fully on you has not gone unnoticed. People are watching. People are seeing that I do trust and rely on you. People are being drawn to you because you are working in and through my life. Yes, they are. This has been most evident as I have drawn nearer to you and relied more fully on you through the fiery trials of life. That’s very true and very good.

Lord, help me to grow in my faith as I trust in you. Help me to rely on your strength to face and go through fiery trials in life. Thank you for using fiery trials to grow my faith. Thank you for using me as your witness in the world as I go through fiery trials in life. Amen
