Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21 (NIV) 

Imagine That?

I have no doubt about that. You have no doubt about what? You have done in, for, and through me what I could have never thought of, or even imagined. Not in a million years could I have dreamed of being where my life is today. Where is your life today? My life is right here with you. I delight to be in your presence. I want to draw near to you. You have my full attention. My heart and mind and life are focused on you. I want to know you. It is my joy to think and speak and act in ways that please you. I want to accomplish your purposes and fulfill your plans. I want to go where you guide me. I want to do whatever you ask of me. Could I have pictured myself as one of your followers? Could I have dreamed up the desire to be fully devoted to loving and following and serving you? Would your plans ever be more important than my plans?  Not, a chance. But that’s what I want. That is who I am. I am your child. I am your follower. You are my Savior and Lord. You are my God and King. You turned my life around. You changed my direction. You altered my course. There is no doubt that you have been at work in me. You have been molding and shaping my life. I am the work of your hands. You are making me into your masterpiece. Now, I want what you want. Yes, that is exactly the work I am doing in you, for you, and through you.

Do you have any idea of what I will do in you, for you, and through you, in the future? Do I have any idea of what I might look like in the future? Yes, you could rephrase my question in that way. Generally, yes, specifically no. That is an interesting answer, can you say more? Generally, I know that you will be making me to be more and more like you. You will help me to think your thoughts, speak your words and do your deeds. You will help me to know and do your will. Others will be drawn to you, because they will see you living and shining brightly through me. You want me to be a bold and bright witness for you in the world. Yes, I do. Is this what you want? Yes, it is. You have no idea of what I will specifically do in, and for, and through you? No, I do not. I do know one thing, however. What’s that? You will do in, and for, and through me, what I could never ask for, think or dream of, or even imagine. Why is that? Your thoughts and plans and ways, are far higher and far better than mine. Yes, they are. For that, I am grateful and thankful. That is very good.

Lord, thank you for working in, for, and through me. You have done far more than I could have ever asked for, thought or dreamed of, or even imagined. I have learned a lesson. I will no longer be timid, or reluctant to ask you to work in, for, or through me. Amen

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21 (NIV)

More Than

I know that you can do more than I can think, ask or imagine. I know that you want me to be able to do what I could never do under my own power. I know that you want your power to be working in and through me to accomplish your purposes and fulfill your plans. I know that you want me to be able to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. How do you know all these things? You have shown me these principles from your word. You have revealed these principles to me through my experience. Tell me more about that. You have often given me assignments that are far beyond my ability to accomplish. Why would I do that? You want me to come to rely on you. You want me to come to ask you for your help. You want me to know that you will make me able to do whatever you ask of me. Anything else? Yes, you want me to know that apart from you I can accomplish nothing of lasting and eternal value. My efforts alone will bear no fruit for your kingdom or bring glory to your name. My efforts alone will add up to nothing. Can you say more about that? Yes, if I could accomplish your assignments under my own power, which I can’t, all the thanks and praise and honor and glory might not be given to you. That would be a sinful mistake. Why is that? All that I am, all that I have, all that I hope to be comes from you. There is nothing that I will accomplish that you will not deserve all the praise and honor and glory. There is more. I’m listening. If I could accomplish your assignments without your help, I am sure that I would become self-reliant and self-sufficient. I would also become proud. That would not be good. No, it would not. So, it is a very good thing that I need to ask for and rely on your help to accomplish your assignments. Yes, it is. Needing your help also causes me to live in an intimate relationship with you.  Needing your help causes me to pray as I walk through life with you. Yes, it does. That is very good. Yes, it is.

Lord, at many times and far too frequently I have been operating under my own power. I have not asked for or relied on your help. No more! I will ask for and rely on your power to help me to accomplish your purposes, fulfill your plans and bring glory to you. Amen

You want more. I can see that. You are not likely to ever become complacent. You are always likely to have some measure of dissatisfaction within you. You will never sit down to rest on your laurels. Yesterday’s accomplishments are old news to you. You want to press on. You want to keep on moving forward. For you there are bigger hills to climb. There is more to be accomplished. Do I have a clear picture of what is at work in you? Do I understand your makeup? You made me. You have molded and shaped me. You understand me better than I understand myself. Nothing about me is hidden from you. That’s right.

Do you think I want more for you? Yes, I am certain that you want more for me. I’m sure that there is much more that you want to do in me, for me and through me. I think the desire in me for more comes from you. That’s true. Do you think I am unhappy with you? Do you think that I am dissatisfied with your progress? I think you are pointing out a danger to me. What’s that? Since, I continually want more there is a danger that I might be unhappy and dissatisfied with myself. If I allow those kinds of thoughts to dwell in me, I am likely to become discouraged and depressed. If I am discouraged and depressed, I am not likely to be moving forward with you. Being discouraged and depressed will make it harder for your work in me, for me and through me to be accomplished. Being discouraged and depressed will also hamper the prayers I pray to you. Maybe, I should come back to your question. That would be good. I don’t think you are dissatisfied or unhappy with me. You’re right. Your desire for more is pleasing to me. You want me to hold on to you so you can lead me through life. You want me to keep praying to you. You want to hear and answer my prayers in ways that are beyond what I could ask for, think or even imagine. That’s right, I want to hear your prayers. I will answer your prayers. I will do in you, for you and through you far beyond what you could ever ask, think or even imagine. Will you keep on praying? Will you keep on asking for more? Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good. 

Lord, I will pray prayers filled with faith. I believe there is no prayer that is either too small or too large to pray. I believe that you will hear and answer all my prayers in ways far beyond what I could ask for, think, or even begin to imagine. Thank you for that. Amen
