Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Becoming Like Christ – Day 284 – Galatians 6:9 – Reap A Harvest If We Do Not Give Up – Growing As Disciples

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9 (NIV)

Give Up

That is something I will not do. What will you not do? I will not give up on serving you. Why do you say that? Do you have unusual staying power? Do you have superior discipline? Do you have incredible will-power? I have developed none of these qualities within me. What does that mean? I do not naturally have staying power, superior discipline or incredible will-power. Far from it, on my own, I am weak and inconsistent. On my own, I have the tendency to become easily discouraged and defeated. Growing weary, giving up and quitting would not be a remote possibility for me, if I were to rely on myself to go and do your work. That’s true.

So why then, are you not giving up and quitting? Well, I am not relying on myself. I am relying on you. I know that you will encourage and strengthen me. You will lift me up. You will keep me moving forward with you. You will empower me to do your work. You will make me able to know and do your will. You will help me to reap a rich harvest for your kingdom. Yes, I will.

When can you expect to reap a rich harvest for my kingdom? I’m not sure what you mean. Will a rich harvest come quickly and easily? Will you be likely to reap a rich harvest right after your initial efforts? No, not likely. Why is that? There is a time for sowing and a time for reaping. Rich harvests do not usually occur over night. Rich harvests are often the result of continuous effort over many years. That’s right. What does that principle mean to you? I need to keep on working day after day and night after night. I must not grow weary. I must not give up and quit. I must keep on relying on you to give me strength and encouragement and hope as I continue to serve you. Will you keep on serving me? Will you keep on giving me your best efforts? Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good.

What promise can you hold on to? What is most certainly true? What can you believe without a doubt? I will reap a rich harvest for your kingdom if I do not give up. Will you keep on serving me? Will you keep on going and doing what I ask of you? Yes Lord, I will. Then you will reap a rich harvest for my kingdom. You will bring glory to my name. Thank you, Lord.

Lord, I will not give up. I will not grow weary. I will not quit. Why is true? You will strengthen me. You will encourage me. You will empower me. You will make me able to bear a rich harvest for your kingdom. For that, I will give my best and unending efforts. Amen

Not Become Weary

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Character - Galatians 6:9 - Not Become Weary - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Character – Galatians 6:9 – Not Become Weary – Growing As Disciples

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9 (NIV)

Don’t Give Up

I have given you work to go and do for me. My hand is on you. I will use you to bear fruit for my kingdom. You will bring glory to my name. You will reap a rich and bountiful harvest for me. I want to go and do whatever you have given me to do for you. I want to accomplish your purposes. I want to fulfill your plans. I am very thankful and glad to hear that your hand is on me. It is my joy to know that you will use me. Nothing would thrill me more than to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. I want to reap a rich and bountiful harvest for you. That is very good.

Having heard all that you have said to me, a question does come to my mind. What question do you have for me? I couldn’t help but wonder if there was an “if” that was part of all that you said to me. Is there anything that is required of me that is part of receiving these promises from you? That is a very good and wise question. What is your answer? Yes, something is required of you to receive all these promises from me. If you want to bear fruit for my kingdom and reap a rich and bountiful harvest you must not give up. You must not grow weary. You must not faint. You must not quit. I understand.

Let’s talk about this a little more. I’m listening. You will never have enough of your own strength to go and do all that I ask of you. If you rely on your own strength you will grow weary, you will become faint and you will want to give up and quit. Remember, that I said that my hand would be on you. I said that I would use you. I remember. You must rely on me for all the strength you will need to go and do all that I ask of you. I will work in you and through you. You will go and do what you could have never do without my help. So, there are really two, “ifs” to receiving all these promises from you? I will bear fruit for your kingdom and reap a rich harvest for you “if” I rely on you and “if” I don’t give up. Is that right? Yes, that’s right. Will you rely on me? Will you never give up? Will you keep on serving me? Yes Lord, I will.

Lord, I will not grow weary. I will not become faint. I will not give up. Instead, I will rely on you for all the strength I will need to keep on doing whatever you ask me to go and do for you. Help me to reap a rich and bountiful harvest for your kingdom and glory. Amen

Key Question… How has the Lord strengthened you to go and do what He has given you to do for Him?

Living It Out… Keep on serving the Lord by continuing to go and do what He has given you to do for Him.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that you will reap a rich and bountiful harvest because you have kept on serving the Lord.

Get Ready To Share… Share with another person or your small group how you are not growing weary of continuing to serve the Lord.

Prayer To Bless Others… May you never grow weary of going and doing what the Lord has given you to do for Him.

Not Become Weary In Doing Good

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Let Us - Galatians 6:9- Not Become Weary In Doing Good- Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Let Us – Galatians 6:9- Not Become Weary In Doing Good- Growing As Disciples

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9 (NIV)

Reap A Harvest

You are in a battle. What kind of battle am I in? You already know the answer to that question of yours. Yes, I do, but I was hoping that you might describe or bring some clarity to the battle that I am in. Why don’t you start by describing the battle that you are in?  I’m weary and worn out. I feel like I can go no further. I have worked long and hard and I’m ready to give up. I’d like a new assignment. Give me something fresh and exciting. Do you really think that would be a good idea? No, I suppose not. Tell me why it wouldn’t be a good idea to leave your assignment now for something new and different? Well, I have worked long and hard on this assignment and I have not yet reaped a harvest. There has been some fruit along the way that’s for sure. But, I’m pretty sure that you had a much larger harvest in mind when you gave me this assignment. Are you just pretty sure? No, I’m positive that you want me to reap a rich harvest as a result of this assignment that you have given to me. Has your being positive about your assignment from me kept you going strong? Yes, it has, otherwise I would have given up and quit long ago. How long must my labor be before I can reap a rich harvest for you? What do you think? That’s a question that there is no quick and easy answer. What must you continue to do then? If I want to reap a rich harvest for you, I must keep on working and not give up. There is a season of planting. There is a season of working. Then there is a season of harvest. Yes, that’s right. Do you think that I will give you a new assignment now? No, I don’t think you will give me a new asignment now. Why won’t I give you a new assignment now? If you allow me to quit, I will never reap the rich harvest that you intended. No, you will not. If I quit early now, I would probably quit even earlier in my next assignment. You want to develop patient endurance in me. Yes, I do.

Let’s talk about your being weary and worn out. Do you think it is my plan for you to be weary and worn out? No, I think you want me to be strong, energetic and full of life. Yes, I do. There is nothing wrong with being tired from hard work. No, there is not. But, there is something not quite right with my being weary and worn out. What do you think is the problem? Somehow, I have started to rely on my own strength to do the work that you have given me to do for you. That will never work. Why is that? I will always give you work that is beyond your ability. Do you know why that is? Yes, you want me to rely on you. Yes, I do. There is another just as important reason. I’m not sure why that is. I want you to know that I am working in and through you. You will never be alone in doing the work that I have given you to do for me. Will knowing that I am working in and through your life encourage you? Yes, it will. Will knowing that I am working in and through keep you going and doing the good I have given you to do? Yes, it will. Then be encouraged and don’t give up. Keep doing the good work that I have given you to do. Yes Lord, I will. Then you will reap a rich harvest for me.

Lord, I will not grow weary. I will keep doing good. I will rely on you to sustain and strengthen me in doing the work that you have given me to do. I will wait and keep on working until I reap a harvest for your kingdom and glory. Amen

Don’t Give Up

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - If - Galatians 6:9- Don't Give Up - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – If – Galatians 6:9- Don’t Give Up – Growing As Disciples

So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Galatians 6:9 (NLT)

Balance

You’re weary and worn out. I can see that. You have been working very hard. I know that. You have exhausted yourself physically, emotionally and spiritually. Don’t think that I like what I see. Don’t think that I ever want you to reach such a depleted condition. There is nothing praiseworthy in that. There is no blessing in reaching the point where you can go no farther or give no more. You have allowed your life to get out of balance. You have lost your joy. You have no vibrancy within you. That is not my plan. This is not my will. What is your plan? What is your will? I want what you want. I’m glad to hear that.

My plan is that you will rely on me. Your own strength will not be enough to sustain you. Draw near to me and I will draw near to you. I will revive you. I will refresh you. I will restore you. Allow me to fill you afresh with my Holy Spirit. Rely on my strength to carry you. Rely on my strength to sustain you. Come to me now. Rest in my presence. Receive your guidance from me. Allow me to guide and direct your life. I will lead you to where I want you to go. I will show you what I have given you to do for me. Don’t yes say to every request that comes your way. Do what I give you to do for me. Do nothing more. Do nothing less. It is a trick and a trap to wear yourself out in doing too many things. I will give you wisdom. I will help you to know what I want you to do for me. Does all this make sense to you? Will you do what I am asking of you? Yes Lord, I will do what you are asking of me.

You live in a body. That should come as no surprise to you. It doesn’t. You are not taking good care of your body. You can do nothing for me if you don’t take proper care of your body. What do you have in mind? You must get adequate sleep. You must eat a healthy diet. You must get good exercise. I get it. I will take care of my body. I have more to say to you. I’m listening. I want you to enjoy the life that I have given to you. I want your life to be filled with my joy. Do things that you enjoy. Take time to unwind. There is a time to relax just as there is a time to work. I want others to see my joy in you. Does this make sense to you? Yes, it does. You want me to work and play hard. Yes, I do. With your life in balance you will not grow weary. You will bear an abundance of fruit as you keep on serving me.

Lord, there have been many times I have let my life get out of balance. I have not had adequate sleep, good exercise and a healthy diet. I have relied on my own strength. Revive my life as I meet with you in prayer. Fill me and refresh me with your Holy Spirit. Amen
