Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Thanksgiving – Psalm 100:4-5 – Enter His Gates – Growing As Disciples
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. Psalm 100:4-5 (NIV)
My Entrance
I know that I have been rushing into your presence to ask you for all that I want and need. I know that you want me to remain in your presence. You want me to draw near to you. You want me to live in a close and intimate relationship with you. Yes, I do. Racing in and out of your presence is not the kind of relationship you want me to have with you. I want to love you with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. I want to draw near to you. I want to remain in your presence. I want to hear your voice. I want to know you. I want you to know me. I want to be changed by you. I want what you want. Yes, you do.
I know that my whole approach to drawing near to you is all wrong. Can you help me? Can you show me how to draw near to you? How can I come to live and dwell and rest in your presence? Let me ask you a question. Go ahead. Are you thankful? Have I done wonderful things for you? Do you slow down and stop to consider how I have blessed your life? Do you know where you would be right now without me? Yes, I do sometimes. I know that without you I would be lost. I would be without hope in the world. I would be stumbling around in the darkness. I would be in bondage to sin. I would be living a broken and empty life. None of this is true for you. No, I know that I am walking in the light with you. You have set me free to live my life with and for you. I have a future with you that is filled with hope both now and forever. You have richly blessed my life. I have a never-ending multitude of reasons to be thankful to you. That’s very good to realize and a great way to start. Enter my presence with thanksgiving. Give me all your praise. Bow down to worship me. Tell me that you are thankful for all I have done and am doing for you. Don’t rush. Slow down. Take your time. Remember all that I have done for you. Your life will be filled with joy as you give all your thanks and praise and worship to me. You will know that my hand is on your life. You will remember that I have richly blessed your life. You will know that I am worthy of all your thanks and praise and worship. Will you enter my presence with all your thanksgiving, praise and worship? Yes, Lord, I will.
Lord, a lot of the time I get so focused on my life and situation. Instead I want to focus on you. Help me to remember your goodness, love and faithfulness. Develop a joyful heart in me so that I will enter your presence with thanksgiving, praise and worship. Amen
