“Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with each other.” Mark 9:49-50 (NIV)
Salty
What would my life look like if it were salty? That is the wrong question. How so? Your life is already salty. Why is that? I am living and working in and through your life. I am using your life to add flavor and preservative in the world. So, the question should have been, “How does my life look different because it is salty?” Or, I could have asked, “How will you use my life to add your flavor in the world? Or even, How will your life flowing in and through me be a preservative in the world?” Yes, those are very good questions.
Imagine how corrupt and spoiled the world would be without you and fellow believers living in it. Would there be peace? Would there be kindness, mercy and love? Would there be any righteousness or justice? Would anyone stand up for the less fortunate? Would anyone take up the cause of the oppressed. Wouldn’t darkness and wickedness and evil reign unabated? Would anyone live in peace? I’m sure not.
Be sure of one thing. What’s that? I want to use you in this world. I want you to shine like a bright light in the darkness. I want you to add my flavor to all of life. I want others to be able to taste my kindness and mercy and love being lived out in and through your life. I want you to put righteousness and justice on display by the way that you think and speak and act. I want you to flavor the world with my peace. I want you to stand up for those who are less fortunate. I want you to take up the cause of the oppressed. Be salty. Be flavorful.
Will you take action? Will you be engaged? Will you go where I guide you? Will you do what I ask of you? Will you be salty and flavorful for me in the world? Yes Lord, I will. I want what you want. I want to be used by you. I want to be salty and flavorful. I want others to know that your life is being lived out in and through me. I want others to be able to taste your kindness and mercy and love being lived out by all that I think, say and do. I want to be your peacemaker in the world. I want to be your light in the world. Use my life. Pour me out in your service. I am at your service. That is very good.
Lord, make me to be salty. Help me to add your flavor in the world. Help me to season the world with your love. Use my life as a preservative. Use me to bring peace into every circumstance of life. Pour me out in your service so others will come to know you. Amen
