Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Transformation – Psalm 119:9-11 – Hidden your Word In My Heart – Growing As Disciples
How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:9-11 (NIV)
My Way
I want to live my life in a way that is pleasing to you. I want all my thoughts and words and deeds to be pure in your sight. I want to seek you with all my heart. Never do I want to stray from your commands. Do I think that I will never sin against you? No, I do not.
Will I do things that are not pleasing to you? I’m sure that I will. But, you know my heart and mind. Yes, I do. I want to think your thoughts and walk in your ways. I want to know and do your will. I can see that.
How can I live a life that is pleasing to you? First, you know that you are a sinner in need of forgiveness and cleansing of your sin. You have turned away from your sin to live your life with and for me. In every way, you are relying on me for my help. Even thinking that you could live a sinless life by the power of your own willpower would be a sin in my sight. That thought would suggest that it was unnecessary for my Son to come into the world to die as payment for your sins. Do you think I made a mistake? No, certainly not. You don’t make mistakes. No, I do not. So, your life is already pleasing to me. When I look at you, I see my Son’s blood covering every sin that you have or will ever commit. You are forgiven and cleansed of your sins. I have made you to be my child. You have been adopted into my family. I am your Heavenly Father. Yes, you are.
Having said what I have just said, I have more to say to you. I’m listening. Your desire to live your life fully for me is pleasing to me. Your passion to know and do my will is pleasing to me. Your commitment to hiding my word in your heart is pleasing to me. You do know how I will use my word in your life. Yes, I know that you will change my heart and transform my mind with your word. Your word will make me able to live my life with and for you. Your word will make me able to stand against temptation. Your word will help me to not sin against you. You got that right. So, I will keep on hiding your word in my heart. That will be very good.
Lord, I will hide your word in my heart. Use your word to change my heart and transform my mind. Help me to seek you with all my heart and live my life according to your word. Use your word to help me stand against temptation so I will not sin against you. Amen
