Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 331 – Isaiah 49-15 – I’d Never Forget You – Growing As Disciples

“Can a mother forget the infant at her breast, walk away from the baby she bore? But even if mothers forget, I’d never forget you—never. Isaiah 49:15 (MSG)

You Remember Me

How cool is that? What could possibly be more comforting, encouraging, strengthening, and empowering? What is so cool? What comforts, encourages, strengthens and empowers you? You remember me. You will never forget me. A nursing mother, as unlikely as it seems, could forget the baby that she bore. But you will always remember me. Under no circumstances will you ever forget me. That fills my heart with hope and peace and joy. That spurs me on. That lifts me up. That keeps me moving forward with you. That is very good.

But you don’t just passively remember me. What good it be if you only remembered me? What benefit would I receive if you were not actively involved in my life? What would my life be like if I did not have your blessing? Where would I be if I knew nothing about your kindness and mercy and love. Would I even be one of your followers if you hadn’t revealed yourself to me? Certainly not, of that, I am sure. But you are actively involved in my life. You love and care for me. You are with me to help me. You will never leave me. You will never forsake me. You are guarding and guiding the course of my life. Your hand is on me. Your favor is with me. I can know and say without a doubt that, “I love you because you first loved me.”  There is nothing better than knowing that you know me, and that you have allowed me to come know you. For that, I am grateful. For that, I am thankful. For that, I am filled with joy. That is very good.

It is true that I will never forget you. It is true that I will always remember you. Nothing will ever separate you from my love. Northing will ever turn me away from you. I am on your side. I am in favor of you. I am praying for you. I am guarding and guiding the course of your life. My hand is on you. I am blessing your life. I am helping you to know me. I am helping you to live in an intimate relationship with me. Through all the circumstances of life, including all the twists and turns and ups and downs, hold on to me. Always remember that I will never forget you. I will be with you to help you. I will always remember. I will never forget that you remember me. That will be very good.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the promise that you will never forget me. Holding on to you and your promises gives me comfort and encouragement, power and strength. I will rely on you. I will remember how close you have been to me in every circumstance. Amen

I Will Not Forget You!

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Love – Isaiah 49:15 – I Will Not Forget You! – Growing As Disciples

“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! Isaiah 49:15 (NIV)

Remembering

That’s a really unlikely scenario, a mother forgetting her nursing baby. It’s even more unlikely that I will ever forget you. The problem of remembering and not forgetting is not my problem. What do you mean by that? I will never forget you; there is no question about that. There are really two questions that you should consider. What are they?

The first question is, will you remember me? How could I ever forget you? That’s a good question for you to ask yourself. But, since you asked me I will ask you a few follow up questions. All right, go ahead. Has your life ever gotten so busy that you have forgotten me? What do you mean by “forgotten you”? Think about that question. Isn’t living your life as if I didn’t exist a form of forgetting me? Yes, I suppose that it is. Have you ever done that? Yes, many times. I have failed to seek your council. I have failed to ask for your help? I have charged straight ahead and relied on my own resources. How has that worked out for you? Not very well at all. So, what have you thought when things haven’t gone so well for you? It’s an embarrassing question isn’t it? Yes, it is. Lets hear the answer. I’ve wondered if you have forgotten me. That would sound funny if it weren’t so sad. That’s right. Let’s recap this for a second. You have forgotten me and raced ahead without me. Yes. Then when things haven’t gone according to your plan and in your failed efforts you have wondered if I have forgotten you, is that correct? Yes, it is, I am sorry to say. Well, I have not forgotten you, that’s for sure. Let me ask you the second question that I have in mind. Go ahead.

The second question is, how will you remember me? That’s a very important question. Yes, it is and why do you think so? I have had a tendency to forget you. Yes, you have. Do you have any plan in mind to change that? I’m not sure. Would you like me to ask you a couple more follow up questions? Yes, I would. When have you been most reminded that I am with you to help you? When I have met with you in prayer I have been reminded that you are with me to help me. When else? When I have met you in your word, and worshipped you together with other believers I have always been reminded that you are with me to help me. So lets recap this for a second. When you have taken time to pray, study my word, and worship me together with other believers you have been reminded that I will never forget you. Yes, that’s right. In those moments you have known for certain that I am with you to help you, is that right? Yes, that’s right. Do you want to be more or less certain that I am with you to help you? Do you want to be more or less certain that I will never forget you? I want more of both, please! That’s what I thought. So, I will spend more time with you to remember that you will never forget me and that you are always with me to help me. Good idea.

Heavenly Father, thank you that you are with me through all the twists and turns and ups and downs of life. I am not on my own. You have not forgotten me. You hear my voice and know who I am when I cry out to you. You are willing and able to help me. Amen

I Will Not Forget You

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - God The Father - Isaiah 49:15 - I Will Not Forget You - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – God The Father – Isaiah 49:15 – I Will Not Forget You – Growing As Disciples

“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! Isaiah 49:15 (NIV)

You Are Not All Alone

That’s good to hear. What’s good to hear? It is good to hear that I am not all alone. Why is that? Sometimes I feel like I am all alone. I know that I am not all alone. I know that you are with me to help me. I know that you have been leading and guiding me through life. You have held on to me as I have held on to you. Yet, with all this being true, I have been discouraged and depressed. Somehow, my heart and mind doesn’t always remember that I am not all alone. I know that you love and accept me. I don’t need to prove myself to you. But, there has been and probably still is a part of me that feels unacceptable and rejected. Where do these dark and depressing thoughts come from? That is a very good question.

What is the source of your dark and depressing thoughts? Why can’t you sometimes remember that you are loved and accepted by me? You know that you have a hope filled eternal future with me. You know that I lived and died for you. You know that I am with you through all the ups and downs and twists and turns of life. You know that I will listen to whatever you want to say to me. You can hear my voice speaking to you. Yes, I know all of these things. I can think of only one thing. What’s that? I am under attack. All my dark and depressing thoughts are lies. They come from the brokenness of the world. They come from devil and all his evil. Yes, you are under attack. Yes, you have been listening to lies.

What will you do when you are under attack? What will you do when you are starting to believe lies? I will draw near to you. What will I do? You will draw near to me. Yes, I will hold on to you as you go through the difficulties of this life. Will you hold on to me? Yes Lord, I will hold on to you. Will you remember that I have engraved your name on the palm of my hand? Will you know that there is no chance that I will ever forget you? Will you remember that I am always with you to help you? Will you know without a doubt that you are not all alone? Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good.

Father thank you that you have engraved my name on the palm of your hand. You will never forget me. It is my joy to come to talk to you about all the details of my life. It is so good to place all my faith, hope and trust in you. Amen
