Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 121 – John 20:30-31 – Life In His Name – Growing As Disciples

Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book.  But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. John 20:30-31 (NIV)

Believe In Me

Do you believe in me? Do you believe that I am the Christ? Do you believe that I am the Son of God? Yes, I do believe in you. I do believe that you are the Christ. You are the Son of God. What does believing in me mean to you? That is a short question with a long answer. I have plenty of time. I will listen to your entire answer. First, it was you who made it possible for me to come to believe in you. How so? You drew me to you. I was on a path walking way from you. I was living a life apart from you. You got my attention. You turned my life around. You allowed me to see and feel the brokenness of my life without you. I was dead and didn’t know it. My sinful life in the world was leaving me bruised and battered and broken. You helped me to cry out to you. You helped me to ask you into my life as my Savior and Lord. You forgave my sin. You cleansed my unrighteousness. You put your Holy Spirit in me. You gave me a completely new life to live in you. Yes, I did all these things for you.

I would like you to say more about your believing in me. Is believing in me like accepting a set of facts, like a mathematical equation? No, not at all. Believing in you turned my life around. Believing in you turned me life upside down. My new life in you looks nothing like my old life in the world. Then I lived for myself. Then I did what I wanted when I wanted. I lived for my own comfort. I lived for my own pleasure. I did what was right in my own eyes. I followed my own counsel. I lived by my own wisdom. Now, I’m living to please you. I want to do what is good and right and true. I want to know your will and walk in your ways. I want to think your thoughts, speak your words and do your deeds. I want to live my life with and for you. All these desires that are now in my heart and mind and life are part of believing in you as my Savior and Lord. Yes, they are and that is very good.

What has helped your faith and belief in me to grow stronger? What have I given you to help you to know and love and follow and serve me? You have given me your word. Your word molds and shapes me. Your word teaches and trains me. Your word guards and guides me. Your word strengthens and sustains me. Yes, my word has been and will continue to do these things for you as you take it deeply into your heart and mind and life. Will you keep on meeting with me in my word? Will you keep on allowing my word to do its work in you? Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good.

Lord, thank you for drawing me to you. You made it so I could come to know and love and follow and believe in you. You are my Savior and Lord. I have turned away from my old, sinful and dead life in the world. You have given me a completely new life in you. Amen

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – God’s Word – John 20:30-31 – Life In His Name – Growing As Disciples

Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. John 20:30-31 (NIV)

Name

Your name is good and right and true. There is love and joy and peace and hope in your name. There is meaning and purpose and power in your name. Your name is above all names. At your name everything in heaven and on earth will bow down. Your name is holy. In your name there is forgiveness of sin. In your name there is deliverance from evil. In your name there is healing. There is fullness of life in your name both now and forever. Your name is certainly worthy of all my praise and worship. Yes, it is.

Your name has stopped me in my tracks. Your name turned my life around. Your name caused me to come to you. Your name led me to bow down and confess all my sins to you. Your name has forgiven all my sins and cleansed all my unrighteousness. Your name has given me a completely new life in you. Yes, it has.

How is that you have come to believe in me? How is that you have come to turn your life over to me? How have you welcomed me into your life as your Savior and Lord? How is that you are continuing to live the life that I have secured for you? I have heard your word. I have listened to your word. I have held on to your word. I have let your word dwell in me richly. I have taken your word into my heart and mind and life. I have allowed your word to change the entire course of my life. Your word has changed my heart. Your word is transforming my mind. Your word is guiding my life. I am living in the fullness of life that you have secured for me because I am loving and following and obeying you. Yes, you are.

What will you continue to do with my word? I will continue to hear and listen attentively to your word. I keep your word ever before me. I will not let your word out of my sight. Your word will be in my heart and on my mind. Not a day will go by that I will fail to hear and follow and obey your word. I can say this only because I know that you will help me to hold on to your word. You will strengthen me by your word. You will guard and guide me by your word. Your word will give me the fullness of life you have for me both now and forever. Yes, I will.

Lord, thank you for your word. Your word has spoken powerfully to me. Reading and hearing your word has caused me to believe in you. Believing in you has changed the entire course of my life. Believing in you has given me a new life in you now and forever. Amen

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Life – John 20:30-31 – Life In His Name – Growing As Disciples

Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. John 20:30-31 (NIV)

Believing

What have I done for you? What can you share with others about your faith in me? How will what I have done for you encourage others to put their faith in me? Your work in my life is like a message that speaks out to others in need. There is nothing dramatically special about me. I certainly did not merit or earn your favor. Yet, you chose to draw me to you. You forgave and cleansed me of my sins. You healed me within. You mended my bruised, battered and broken life. You made me your child. You are my father and I am your son. Yes, you are. I live each day in fellowship with you. You guard and guide my life. You have given me purpose, meaning and hope. It is my joy to love, follow and serve you. We walk together through life. I am not exempt from pain and suffering. I have experienced difficulties, trials, hardships and setbacks. In all of these I know that I can hold on to you. I also know that you are holding on to me. Yes, I am.

We live in a relationship together. I talk to you and you talk to me. You know me and I know you. I can hear your voice. It’s not an audible voice. It’s a quiet voice that I hear when I draw near to meet with you. There is no place that I would rather be than in your presence. There is nothing I would rather hear than you speaking to me. Sometime I would like you to surprise me. I would like to hear your audible voice. Is that necessary? No, it is not. Can I wait till we meet each other face to face? Yes, I can. My faith in you is strong. My faith in you is being kept and guarded by your power. Yes, it is. Your written word speaks to me. I know that you meet me in your word. Yes, I do. You take your word and apply it to my life. You are transforming my mind and changing my heart with your word. You are helping me to know you. You are helping me to think your thoughts. You are allowing me to feel what you feel. Your word is changing who I am, what I think, what I say and what I do. Yes, it is.

How did you come to faith in me? How have I used others to speak into your life? You used many people as your hands and feet and eyes and ears and mouth on my behalf. People went out of their way to minister your love to me. They told me about you. They shared the life that they had with you with me. Many times I thought that I was in the presence of angels. But, no, they were regular people that you were working in and through. They were people who knew and loved you. They shared all that you had done for them. I was drawn to what I saw of you in them. I wanted what they had. I wanted to know and love you too. So, I gave my life to you. Is that a miracle? Yes, it certainly is. Is giving your life to me something that you would like to tell others about? Would you like your life to draw others to me? Yes Lord, I would.

Lord, you have done miraculous things for me. You came into this world to save me. You rescued me from a life without you. You made it so I could come to believe in you. You are using me now to share my faith. You have given me new life in your name. Amen
