Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – God’s Will – Matthew 5-9 – Sons Of God – Growing As Disciples

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. Matthew 5:9 (NIV)

Peacemaker

Do you want to be a witness for me in the world? Do you want to live a life that is vibrant and attractive to those who do not know me? Do you want others to come to know me through my working in and through your life? Do you want to be a vessel that I can use for my kingdom and glory? Do you want to go where I send you and do what I ask of you? Are you at my disposal? Are you ready for my use? Lord, I want you to use me. I am completely at your disposal. I am ready for your use. I will go wherever you send me and do whatever you ask me. Where will you send me? How do you want to use me? What will you ask of me? I will send you next door. Next door, I’m not sure what you mean?

I want you to express my kindness and mercy and love to all those who are around you on a day to day basis. You don’t need to go far to be my witness in the world. I will use you right now, right where you are, in your daily life. How will you use me? Think of the people that rub you the wrong way. Think of the people that are abrasive and difficult to love. Think of the people who are obnoxious and self-serving. Think of the people that are living lives that are far away from me. These are the people that I want you to love with my love. These are the people that I want you to pray for and serve. Show them what they can’t see in the world. What’s that? Show them my unconditional love. Show them kindness at every turn.  How will I do that?

I am calling you to be a peacemaker.  I want you to make and maintain peace wherever you go, in whatever you do. I want your life to spread the fragrance of me everywhere. I want you to stand out as a bold and bright witness for me in a world filled with conflict. I want people to see me living and working in and through your life. I want people to know my kindness, mercy and love through your life. I want people to see me living in you. I want people to know that they have been in the presence of one of my children, when they have been around you. You are my child, are you not? Yes, I am your child. You are my Heavenly Father. Yes, I am. You want to become like me, do you not? Yes, I want to become like you. Then be a peacemaker for me. Will you do that for me? Yes Lord, I will be a peacemaker for you in a world filled with conflict. That will be very good.

Lord, I have often allowed myself to become embroiled in conflict. I regret that engaging in conflict has hindered my ability to be a witness for you. Forgive me. Use me now as a peacemaker. Help me to make and maintain peace in a world filled with conflict. Amen

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Becoming Like Christ – Day 207 – Matthew 5:9 – Blessed Are The Peacemakers – Growing As Disciples

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. Matthew 5:9 (NIV)

Peacemakers

I want to be a peacemaker. I know you want me to be a peacemaker. How do you know that I want you to be a peacemaker in the world? I know that you want me to be a witness for you in the world. You want me to shine brightly in the darkness of this world. You want my life to be a demonstration of your love. You want others to be drawn to you through your life being lived out in and through me. Conflict is expected in this life. Peace is the exception. Love stands out. Someone who is truly a peacemaker is quite unique. That is who you want me to be. Yes, that is exactly who I want you to be.

There is a problem. What’s the problem? I have two natural responses to conflict. Neither of them are helpful. Neither of them are anything like being a peacemaker. What are your natural responses to conflict? I like to do battle with conflict. I like to engage in a good fight. I like to debate. I like to argue. I especially like to win, and I like to be right as well. How has this attitude worked out for you? Well, I may have won some arguments and debates. I might have even been right. But I have stirred up conflict and made no peace. That is not good. Yes, I know. You are far more interested in me winning people than in me winning arguments. Yes, I am. What is your other natural response to conflict? There is another, almost opposite part of me that wants to avoid conflict at all cost. I hate conflict. I will flee conflict. I will run from conflict. I will hide from conflict. I will ignore conflict. What is the problem with that attitude toward conflict? How can I be a peacemaker by running away from conflict? You can’t. I know.

There is another problem. What’s that? I don’t know how to be a peacemaker. I don’t have the wisdom I need to be a peacemaker. That is not a problem. That is part of the solution. What’s that? I don’t understand. You have acknowledged your need. You will need my wisdom to be a peacemaker. You will need to rely on me to help you to be peacemaker. I will give you the heart of a peacemaker. I will fill you with my thoughts and words and actions that will make for peace. Will you come to rely on me? Will you allow me to work in and through you? Yes Lord, I will. That will be very good. You will be a peacemaker in the world.

Lord, I want to be your witness in the world. I want to shine brightly for you. I want to demonstrate your love to others. Help me to bring your peace into conflict filled situations. Give me your peace filled thoughts to think, words to speak and actions to take. Amen

Key Question… How has the Lord recently used you to bring peace into conflict filled situation?

Living It Out… Allow the Lord to use you to bring His peace into conflict filled situations.

Seeing It Happen… Have faith that the Lord will use you to bring His peace into a conflict filled situations.

Called Sons Of God

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Be - Matthew 5:9 - Called Sons Of God - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Be – Matthew 5:9 – Called Sons Of God – Growing As Disciples

Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. Matthew 5:9 (NIV)

Peacemaker

This hasn’t been me. I can tell you that much for sure. You can tell me what for sure? I have not been your peacemaker. If being a peacemaker in the world is how people will be able to recognize me as one of your children, then I have missed the mark. Why is that? I have been argumentative, I have been combative. I have even been inflammatory. I have been both defensive and offensive. I have fought vigorously for my rights, opinions and values. I have stood up for the truth. I have done battle for what I thought was right. I have been a debater. I have been a fighter. I have tried to correct every wrong that I have seen in the world. That is not all bad. There is value in fighting for truth and justice in the world. I don’t want you to sit idly watching injustice in the world. I don’t want you to ignore the truth. I don’t want you to live under falsehood. You know that. Yes, I do.

I am calling you to be my peacemaker in the world.  Being argumentative, combative, and inflammatory are the ways of the world. I don’t want you to be either defensive or offensive. I don’t want you to vigorously fight for your rights, opinions or values. No one will ever recognize you as one of my followers if you conduct yourself in these ways. Do you want to be a bright witness for me in the world? Do you want to be able to bear fruit for my kingdom? Do you want to bring glory to my name? Do you want my blessing to come into your life? Yes Lord, I want to be used by you. I want to be recognized as one of your children. I want to be a bright witness for you in the world. I want to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. I want your hand to be on me. I want you to bless my life. Then you must live as one of my peacemakers. This is not optional. This is my calling on your life.

You may be wondering how will you know when to speak up and when to remain silent? You may be wondering how to fight for truth and justice while remaining a peacemaker in the world? Yes, I am. Those are good questions with no easy answer. What then? Follow me. Do what I ask you to do. Speak when I ask you to speak. Act when I call you to act. Expect that I will be leading you to be a peacemaker in the world. Expect that I will make you to be easily recognizable as one of my children. Will you do this? Yes Lord, I will.

Lord, I have not lived as a peacemaker in the world. I have been argumentative and combative. I have been inflammatory. Forgive me. Help me to live as your bright witness in the world. Help me to be a peacemaker, easily identifiable as one of your children. Amen
