Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 326 - Exodus 33:12-14 - Show Me Your Ways - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 326 – Exodus 33:12-14 – Show Me Your Ways – Growing As Disciples

Moses said to the LORD, “See, you say to me, ‘Bring up this people,’ but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. Yet you have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found favor in my sight.’  Now therefore, if I have found favor in your sight, please show me now your ways, that I may know you in order to find favor in your sight. Consider too that this nation is your people.”  And he said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Exodus 33:12-14 (ESV)

Show Me

Yes, that is exactly what I want and need. That is the request that I am making to you right now. What do you want and need? What request are you making to me right now? I want you to show me your ways so I can come to know you. That is a bold request. Yes, I suppose that it is a bold request. I can make it only because you have put that desire and prayer in my heart to request. You have helped me to want to know and love and follow and serve you with all that is within me. Such a desire does not originate with me, there is no doubt about that. Desiring to know and love and follow and serve you is the very best gift you could have given to me. It is this gift that led me to receive forgiveness and cleansing of my sin through your Son’s death on the cross. He paid for my sin. He cleansed my unrighteousness. He secured a new life for me. He made me righteous in your sight. He made it so I can live in an intimate relationship with you. He made it so I can walk through life with you. Once I turned from my old ways and received Him as my Savior and Lord, you filled me with your Holy Spirit. Now, here I am asking you to show me your ways so I can come to know you. That is an excellent prayer to be praying.

Why do you so passionately want me to show you, my ways? Why do you so strongly want to come to know me? I can only and simply say, “I love you because you first loved me.” Love compels me to want to know and love and follow and serve you with all that is within me. I want to follow you to where you lead me. I want to do whatever you ask of me. I want to fully live the life that you have called me to live. But most of all, I simply want to know you. Knowing you will mold and shape my life. Knowing you will change my heart, transform my mind, and guide my life. Knowing you will make me able to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. Is that enough? Is that sufficient reason for me to want you to show me your ways so I can come to know you? Yes, you have prayed well. You have asked for something I will gladly give to you. I will show you, my ways. I will help you to come to know me intimately. Thank you, Heavenly Father.

Heavenly Father, you have my full attention. It is my utmost and highest desire to see your ways and come to know you. Have you favor be with me so that I may love and follow and serve you well. I want to fully live the life you have called me to live for you. Amen

I Will Help You Speak

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Mouth - Exodus 4:10-12 - I Will Help You Speak - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Mouth – Exodus 4:10-12 – I Will Help You Speak – Growing As Disciples

Moses said to the LORD, “O Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.” The LORD said to him, “Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the LORD? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.” Exodus 4:10-12 (NIV)

Go And Do

Don’t make excuses for why you can’t go and do what I am asking you to do for me. Don’t say what is obvious. What is obvious? You are not able to go and do what I am asking you to do for me. Then we agree. No, we don’t agree. It seems like we agree. How is it that we are not in agreement? You think that you are unable, unprepared and unqualified. Yes, I do. On that much we do agree. I thought so. What you don’t understand is that you will never be fully able, completely prepared and totally qualified to go and do all that I am asking you to do for me. Why is that? I will always call you to do more than you can do by yourself. Why is that? You tell me. Well, your word does say that apart from you I can do nothing. I take that to mean that I can’t do anything that will bear fruit for all eternity and bring glory to your name without your help. That’s right.

You need my help to bear fruit for all eternity and bring glory to my name. Yes, I do. Is there more that you have on your mind? I’m guessing that you ask me to do more than I am able so that I will come to rely on you. Why do you think that is? You want to have an intimate relationship with me. You want me to live in close fellowship with you. Yes, I do. If I were completely able to do all that you asked of me I might become self-reliant and self-sufficient. I might think that I don’t really need your help. I probably wouldn’t come to rely on you for your help. That’s true. As it is, I desperately need your help to go and do what you are asking me to do for you. Yes, you do. When you help me to do what I couldn’t possibly do with my own gifts, talents and abilities my faith in you grows. I know that you are with me to help me. I know that I am not alone. I know that you are working in and through me. That is a very good feeling. I am filled with joy and thanksgiving when I know that you are using me. Yes, you are. I and everyone around me gives praise and glory to you for doing only what you could have done in and through me. That’s right. Now, I think we are in agreement. How so? I want you to use me. I will trust you to make me able to go and do all that you ask of me. Yes, I will.

Lord, your call is difficult and challenging. Many times it has been very uncomfortable. Forgive me when I have been tentative and reluctant and wishing you would send someone else. Thank you for not sending someone else and continuing to use me instead. Amen

Teach Me Your Ways So I May Know You

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Knowing God - Exodus 33:12-14 - Teach Me Your Ways So I May Know You - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Knowing God – Exodus 33:12-14 – Teach Me Your Ways So I May Know You – Growing As Disciples

Moses said to the LORD, “You have been telling me, ‘Lead these people,’ but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. You have said, ‘I know you by name and you have found favor with me.’ If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people.” The LORD replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Exodus 33:12-14 (NIV)

Rely On Me

I’m tired. I’m weary. I’m worn out. I’m done. I will go no further. I will not take another step without you leading and guiding my life. I have had enough of going it all alone. I have struggled and strived working under my own power and strength. I want and desperately need your help. You have given me a lot to do for you. But right now, I’m at a full stop. I am unable to do what you have given me to do for you. You are right where I want you. How can that be? I’m not encouraged. What do you mean? I want you to give up on your own efforts. I want you to rely on me. I need to hear more from you. Teach me your ways.

I will never give you an assignment that you can accomplish with your own power and strength. What would happen if I did that? Would you ever come to rely on me if you didn’t need my help? If I never needed your help I would never come to rely on you. I would just use my own abilities to accomplish what you have given me to do for you. Would you ever know that I was working in and through your life if you never needed my help? No, I would have very little knowledge of your presence being with me to help me if I did all the work by myself. Would we have any kind of close and intimate relationship if you never needed to come to me to ask for my help? Would you ever draw near to me to ask me for something that you needed if you never needed anything? No, I would be very independent and self-sufficient if I never needed anything from you. Who would receive the honor and glory if you did all the work? I would receive the honor and glory if I alone did all the work. I don’t ever want that to happen. You can relax, it won’t. Who would be drawn to me if they could never see my hand at work? No one would be drawn to you if I alone did the work. Why is that? What I can accomplish by myself, in my own strength is nothing spectacular. It would be fairly feeble and barely noticed. When you do your work in and through me that is when people stand up and take notice. They don’t notice me. They take notice of you. What fruit would be born for my kingdom and my glory through your efforts all alone? I can’t bear any fruit for your kingdom and your glory. Apart from you I can do nothing that will bear fruit for your kingdom or bring glory to your name. That’s right. Will you come to rely on me? Yes Lord, I will rely on you. My presence will be with you to help you. You can rely on me now and forever.

Lord, so many times I have timidly tip toed through life on my own with my own strength. No more! I will now go no further. I will not take another step without you. I want you to lead and guide me. I want your presence to go with me. Now, I will follow you. Amen

My Presence Will Go With You

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Guidance - Exodus 33:12-14 - My Presence Will Go With You - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Guidance – Exodus 33:12-14 – My Presence Will Go With You – Growing As Disciples

Help You

I have a large assignment I have given you to do for me. You can’t possible do what I have given you to do for me without my help. This should come as a great encouragement to you. This should not discourage you. This should not cause you to shrink back in doubt. This should not paralyze you with fear. Why is that? You have found favor with me.  I know you by name. My hand is on you. I will work in and through. I will be with you to help you. Be encouraged. Be strengthened. Be ready to move forward with me. Yes Lord, I will.

Can I ask you for some details? Can I have some more information? What would you like to know? Where will I go? What will I do? Who will you send with me? How will you use me? You have a lot of questions. You want to know ever step of your way. Do you think that I will answer every last one of your questions? Will I give you a complete road map before you start your journey? Is that the way I work? Is that what I will do for you? I doubt it. I’m pretty sure you won’t do that. Why is that?

You want me to trust in you. You want me to rely on you for all my help. You alone will be the only road map that you will give me. You will be my guide. You want me to follow you to where you will lead me. You want me to take one step at a time with you. I am pleased with you. I want you to know me. I want you to know my will and walk in my ways. I will teach you. I will train you. I will help you. I will use you for my purposes and according to my plan. Will you follow me? Yes Lord, I will follow you to wherever you lead me to do whatever you ask of me.

Lord, thank you for calling me into your service. It will be my pleasure to serve you. I will go and do whatever you ask of me. I will trust you to help me with what you have given me to do. Fill me with your presence. Have your favor rest on me as I serve you. Amen

I Will Help You

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Promises - Day 125 - Exodus 4:10-13 - I Will Help You - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 125 – Exodus 4:10-13 – I Will Help You – Growing As Disciples

Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.”  But Moses said, “O Lord, please send someone else to do it.” Exodus 4:10-13 (NIV)

Help You

Do you believe that? Do I believe what? Do you believe that I will help you? Yes, I believe that you will help me. That is easy to say. Let me put more of a test to that question. I’m game. Great, here goes. Do you know that I will often ask you to go and do something for me that will not be easy? That sounds like an understatement to me. How so? You often ask me to go and do what I think is far beyond my ability. By that, I mean that you will often ask me to go and do what is far beyond easy. That is true. Why would I ask you to go and do what is beyond your own ability? Does that seem unfair to you? Do my requests seem unreasonable to you? No, not at all. Why do my requests not seem unfair or unreasonable to you? I know what you are trying to accomplish in me. What’s that? You want me to come to rely on you. You want me to place my faith you. You want me to come to know you more intimately. You want to do in and through me what only you could have done. You want me to know that you are working in and through me to accomplish your purposes and fulfill your plans. You want others to be drawn to you through the ways that you have worked in and through my life. You want me to give thanks and praise and honor to you for all that you have done in and through my life. Finally, you want me to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. You want me to shine brightly as a witness for you in the world. Yes, I want to do all these things in, for, and through you. Would any of these goals of yours be accomplished if you were to only give me very easy assignments that I could accomplish by myself, without your help? No, not at all, there is no doubt about that. You are very wise to know and think these thoughts. These are good reasons why I will continue to ask you to do what seems to be beyond your ability to accomplish. Will you go and do whatever I ask of you? Will you rely fully on me? Will you allow me to make you able to accomplish my purposes and fulfill my plans? Yes Lord, I will. That is very good.

Lord, I know you will ask me to do what is beyond my ability. In the past, I would make excuses and try to get out of doing what you asked of me. No more. Now I rely on you. I know you will make me able to do whatever you ask of me. All my faith is in you. Amen
