Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Promises – Day 326 – Exodus 33:12-14 – Show Me Your Ways – Growing As Disciples

Moses said to the LORD, “See, you say to me, ‘Bring up this people,’ but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. Yet you have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found favor in my sight.’  Now therefore, if I have found favor in your sight, please show me now your ways, that I may know you in order to find favor in your sight. Consider too that this nation is your people.”  And he said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Exodus 33:12-14 (ESV)

Show Me

Yes, that is exactly what I want and need. That is the request that I am making to you right now. What do you want and need? What request are you making to me right now? I want you to show me your ways so I can come to know you. That is a bold request. Yes, I suppose that it is a bold request. I can make it only because you have put that desire and prayer in my heart to request. You have helped me to want to know and love and follow and serve you with all that is within me. Such a desire does not originate with me, there is no doubt about that. Desiring to know and love and follow and serve you is the very best gift you could have given to me. It is this gift that led me to receive forgiveness and cleansing of my sin through your Son’s death on the cross. He paid for my sin. He cleansed my unrighteousness. He secured a new life for me. He made me righteous in your sight. He made it so I can live in an intimate relationship with you. He made it so I can walk through life with you. Once I turned from my old ways and received Him as my Savior and Lord, you filled me with your Holy Spirit. Now, here I am asking you to show me your ways so I can come to know you. That is an excellent prayer to be praying.

Why do you so passionately want me to show you, my ways? Why do you so strongly want to come to know me? I can only and simply say, “I love you because you first loved me.” Love compels me to want to know and love and follow and serve you with all that is within me. I want to follow you to where you lead me. I want to do whatever you ask of me. I want to fully live the life that you have called me to live. But most of all, I simply want to know you. Knowing you will mold and shape my life. Knowing you will change my heart, transform my mind, and guide my life. Knowing you will make me able to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. Is that enough? Is that sufficient reason for me to want you to show me your ways so I can come to know you? Yes, you have prayed well. You have asked for something I will gladly give to you. I will show you, my ways. I will help you to come to know me intimately. Thank you, Heavenly Father.

Heavenly Father, you have my full attention. It is my utmost and highest desire to see your ways and come to know you. Have you favor be with me so that I may love and follow and serve you well. I want to fully live the life you have called me to live for you. Amen

Teach Me Your Ways So I May Know You

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Knowing God - Exodus 33:12-14 - Teach Me Your Ways So I May Know You - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Knowing God – Exodus 33:12-14 – Teach Me Your Ways So I May Know You – Growing As Disciples

Moses said to the LORD, “You have been telling me, ‘Lead these people,’ but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. You have said, ‘I know you by name and you have found favor with me.’ If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people.” The LORD replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Exodus 33:12-14 (NIV)

Rely On Me

I’m tired. I’m weary. I’m worn out. I’m done. I will go no further. I will not take another step without you leading and guiding my life. I have had enough of going it all alone. I have struggled and strived working under my own power and strength. I want and desperately need your help. You have given me a lot to do for you. But right now, I’m at a full stop. I am unable to do what you have given me to do for you. You are right where I want you. How can that be? I’m not encouraged. What do you mean? I want you to give up on your own efforts. I want you to rely on me. I need to hear more from you. Teach me your ways.

I will never give you an assignment that you can accomplish with your own power and strength. What would happen if I did that? Would you ever come to rely on me if you didn’t need my help? If I never needed your help I would never come to rely on you. I would just use my own abilities to accomplish what you have given me to do for you. Would you ever know that I was working in and through your life if you never needed my help? No, I would have very little knowledge of your presence being with me to help me if I did all the work by myself. Would we have any kind of close and intimate relationship if you never needed to come to me to ask for my help? Would you ever draw near to me to ask me for something that you needed if you never needed anything? No, I would be very independent and self-sufficient if I never needed anything from you. Who would receive the honor and glory if you did all the work? I would receive the honor and glory if I alone did all the work. I don’t ever want that to happen. You can relax, it won’t. Who would be drawn to me if they could never see my hand at work? No one would be drawn to you if I alone did the work. Why is that? What I can accomplish by myself, in my own strength is nothing spectacular. It would be fairly feeble and barely noticed. When you do your work in and through me that is when people stand up and take notice. They don’t notice me. They take notice of you. What fruit would be born for my kingdom and my glory through your efforts all alone? I can’t bear any fruit for your kingdom and your glory. Apart from you I can do nothing that will bear fruit for your kingdom or bring glory to your name. That’s right. Will you come to rely on me? Yes Lord, I will rely on you. My presence will be with you to help you. You can rely on me now and forever.

Lord, so many times I have timidly tip toed through life on my own with my own strength. No more! I will now go no further. I will not take another step without you. I want you to lead and guide me. I want your presence to go with me. Now, I will follow you. Amen

My Presence Will Go With You

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Guidance - Exodus 33:12-14 - My Presence Will Go With You - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Guidance – Exodus 33:12-14 – My Presence Will Go With You – Growing As Disciples

Help You

I have a large assignment I have given you to do for me. You can’t possible do what I have given you to do for me without my help. This should come as a great encouragement to you. This should not discourage you. This should not cause you to shrink back in doubt. This should not paralyze you with fear. Why is that? You have found favor with me.  I know you by name. My hand is on you. I will work in and through. I will be with you to help you. Be encouraged. Be strengthened. Be ready to move forward with me. Yes Lord, I will.

Can I ask you for some details? Can I have some more information? What would you like to know? Where will I go? What will I do? Who will you send with me? How will you use me? You have a lot of questions. You want to know ever step of your way. Do you think that I will answer every last one of your questions? Will I give you a complete road map before you start your journey? Is that the way I work? Is that what I will do for you? I doubt it. I’m pretty sure you won’t do that. Why is that?

You want me to trust in you. You want me to rely on you for all my help. You alone will be the only road map that you will give me. You will be my guide. You want me to follow you to where you will lead me. You want me to take one step at a time with you. I am pleased with you. I want you to know me. I want you to know my will and walk in my ways. I will teach you. I will train you. I will help you. I will use you for my purposes and according to my plan. Will you follow me? Yes Lord, I will follow you to wherever you lead me to do whatever you ask of me.

Lord, thank you for calling me into your service. It will be my pleasure to serve you. I will go and do whatever you ask of me. I will trust you to help me with what you have given me to do. Fill me with your presence. Have your favor rest on me as I serve you. Amen

Go With Us

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - God The Father - Exodus 33:13-17 - Go With Us - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – God The Father – Exodus 33:13-17 – Go With Us – Growing As Disciples

If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people.” The LORD replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?” And the LORD said to Moses, “I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name.” Exodus 33:13-17 (NIV)

Not One Step

I’m serious. You’re serious about what? I don’t want to take one step unless I know for certain that you are with me to help me. Why is that? I have taken so many steps in the wrong direction. So many times, I have gone and done my own thing. I have wasted time. I have expended energy. I have experienced the fruitlessness of my own self-driven efforts. I want no more of that barrenness. That’s good. I want you to bear fruit for my kingdom and bring glory to my name. I don’t want you to waste time and energy and effort. That’s good.

There is something I want to clear up for you. What’s that? I am with you wherever you go. I am with you in whatever you do. You are never alone. You are never on your own. You can never take missteps out of my presence. You can’t go so far away from me, doing your own thing, that I am not with you. You can always cry out to me. You can always ask for my help. You can always come to rely on me. Will I let you continue off course? Have I not gotten your attention and turned your life around? Have I not made you able to bear fruit for my kingdom and bring glory to my name? No, you have not let me continue to go off course. Yes, you have turned my life around. You have caused me to cry out to you. You have been near to me when I have asked for your help. You have helped me to come to rely on you. In a multitude of varied ways, you have always gotten my attention. Yes, in the end you have made me able to bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to you name. Yes, I have done all these things for you. And much more. That’s right.

There is something else I want to clear up for you. What’s that? I am pleased with you. I am your Father. You are my child. I love you and you love me. I am devoted to you and you are devoted to me. I am leading you and you are following me. So, I am very pleased with you. Keep on loving and following and serving me. Yes, Heavenly Father, I will. That is very good. I will be with you to help you throughout all of your life. I’m counting on you. That is very good.

Heavenly Father, I don’t want to go anywhere or do anything unless I know that you are with me to help me. I don’t want to take one step in the wrong direction. Help me to know you and the plans you have laid out for my life as I love, follow and serve you. Amen
