Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Prayer – John 10:27-28 – Listen To My Voice – Growing As Disciples

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. John 10:27-28 (NIV)

My Voice

How will I be able to follow you? How will I know where to go? How will know what to do? How will I know that I am on the right track? How will I know that I have not gone off course? Those are good questions. I am your Good Shepherd. You are one of my sheep. You are prone to wander. You are likely to go your own way. You will find it easy to lose your way. On your own you are like to take missteps. On your own you will surely go where you should not go. On your own you will likely do what you should not do. So, I will say it to you again, you have asked good questions. Do you have an answer for me? Yes, I do have an answer for you. I’m listening. You have my full attention. I will not miss a word that you have to say to me. I will listen attentively to your voice.

You have already answered all your own questions. How is that possible? What did you just tell me that you would do? I said that I would listen attentively to your voice. I said that you would have my full attention. I said that I would not miss a word that you have to say to me. That’s right. That is exactly what you said to me. That is how you will be able to follow me. That is how you will know where to go and what to do. That is what will keep you on track and prevent you from going off course. You will know and listen to my voice. You will hear my whispers. You will receive my guidance and follow my instructions. Your heart and mind and life will be focused on me. You will give me your full attention. You will seek me with all your heart and mind and soul and strength. I will guard you. I will guide you. I will direct you. I will protect you. My hand will be on you. My voice will lead you to where I want you to go. My voice will give you what I want you to do. You will be able to boldly go and do all that I ask of you because you will have listened to my voice. That is exactly what I will do. That will be very good.

Lord, thank you that you are my Good Shepherd. I am one of your sheep. You know me. Help me to know you. Speak to me so I can hear you. I will listen attentively to your voice as you lead me through life all the twists and turns and ups and downs of life. Amen

Listen To My Voice

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Guidance – John 10:14-16 – Listen To My Voice- Growing As Disciples

“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me– just as the Father knows me and I know the Father–and I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd. John 10:14-16

Listen To You

Here I am Lord. I have taken time to stop. I have withdrawn from the noise and busyness of my life. I have left the hustle and bustle behind. I have quieted myself before you.  I am here at your feet. I am ready to listen. I don’t want to miss a word that you have to say to me. You have my complete attention. My heart and mind and life are focused on you. Speak to me, I’m here with my heart filled with desire to listen to you. That is very good.

What brought you to this place? Why are you so eager to hear from me? What has filled your heart with desire to listen to me? You brought me to this place. You made it possible for me to come to you. I was like a lost and lonely wandering sheep. I was bruised and battered and broken by life. I was lost on a path that was leading away from you. But, you sought me out. You pursued me. You would not let me go. You rescued me from a life without you. In your presence, you restored my soul. You have refreshed and revived my life. You healed my bruised and battered and broken life. There is however something even better than that. Like what? In moments of quietness you have made it so I could come to know you. You brought me to a place where I could drink deeply of your kindness, mercy and love. You allowed me to taste of your goodness. I now love you because you first loved me. You have made it so I could know your will and walk in your ways. Now, I want to live each moment of my life with and for you. There is no place I would rather be than in your presence. There is nothing I would rather do than follow and serve you. That is very good.

So, I keep coming back to this place so I can listen to you. In your presence, I want to be changed. I want you to mold and shape my life. I want you to make me to be like you. I want to go where you went. I want to do what you did. I want to give like you gave. I want to serve like you served. I want to love like you loved. Use my life to accomplish your purposes and fulfill your plans. Guide and guard my life as I love, follow and serve you. These are my prayers. Those are very good prayers. I have probably done enough talking. Speak to me Lord, I am listening. That is very good.

Lord, you are my Good Shepherd. You take care of me. You lead me to where I need to go. You laid down your life for me and made it possible for me to know you. Your voice speaks to me. It is my delight to listen and follow you. Amen
