Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Becoming Like Christ – Day 240 – 2 Timothy 1:6-7 – Fan Into Flame – Growing As Disciples

For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:6-7 (NIV)

On Fire

That is what I want to be? What do you want to be? I want to be on fire for you. What does that mean to you? I want to boldly and passionately serve you. I want to live my life fully for you. I want to go where you guide me. I want to do what you ask of me. I don’t want to hold anything in reserve. I don’t want to make any retreats. I don’t want to have any regrets. That is very good. I would like to ask you a question. Go ahead, I’m listening. You have my full attention. What might cause you to have regrets? If I half-heartedly followed and served you, I would have regrets. Half-hearted efforts would be no way to for me to express the love I have for you. I want to passionately love you with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. I want to follow and serve you with all that is within me. That is very good. I have more to say. Go ahead, I’m listening. I would also have regrets if I did not discover and use all the spiritual gifts you have given to me. It would be a tragedy to one day find out that I did not fully use all the spiritual gifts you have given to me. So, it is my prayer that you will help me to fully discover and use all the gifts you have given me so I can bear abundant fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. That is a very good prayer that I will hear and answer. For that, I am so very thankful. But I have more to say on this subject. I’m still listening. I would have regrets if I did not boldly use all the spiritual gifts you have given to me. I know well the difference between timidly and boldly using the spiritual gifts you have given to me. I have no interest in being timid. I want to be bold and courageous for you. I’m not exactly sure how to fan into a flame all the gifts you have given to me. But that will be the prayer of heart. Set me on fire for you. Help me to boldly serve you with all the spiritual gifts you have given to me. That is another prayer that I will hear and answer. These prayers will continually be in my heart and on my mind as I love, follow and serve you. That will be very good. You will be on fire for me.

Heavenly Father, thank you for giving me spiritual gifts. Help me to discover and use all the gifts you have given to me. I don’t want one gift to go undiscovered or unused. Help me to fan into flame of the gifts you have given me so that I can boldly serve you. Amen

Spirit Of Power

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Freedom - 2 Timothy 1:7 - Spirit Of Power - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Freedom – 2 Timothy 1:7 – Spirit Of Power – Growing As Disciples

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7 (NIV)

Boldness

Have I given you spiritual gifts with which you can use to serve me? Will the spiritual gifts that I have given to you allow you to bear fruit for my kingdom? Will you bring glory to my name as you use the spiritual gifts that I have given to you? What has hindered you from using the spiritual gifts that I have given to you? What will be required if you will boldly use the spiritual gifts that I have given to you? You have asked me a lot of questions. I hardly know where to start. Start anywhere. I will start by saying that you have given me many spiritual gifts with which I can serve you. It has taken me quite a while to discover my spiritual gifts. Through trial and error in serving you, in one area after another, I have developed an understanding of what spiritual gifts you have given to me. I have also discovered what are not my spiritual gifts. That seems like a valuable discovery as well. It is. If I have any undiscovered spiritual gifts, it is my prayer that you will reveal them to me. I will.

I have struggled to use my spiritual gifts. I’ve noticed. Tell me more about that. I have been filled with fear. I have been timid. It feels like I have taken two steps forward and one step back in using my spiritual gifts. Fear has even caused me to avoid opportunities to use my spiritual gifts. That fear does not come from me. I know. You know that I have given you spiritual gifts. Yes, I know that. You know that I have given you the power to use your spiritual gifts. Yes, I know that as well. You know that I will help you to know when, where and how to use your spiritual gifts. Yes, I know that too. Then what do you have to fear? I am with you to help you. My presence will go with you. My hand is on you. I have nothing to fear. Forgive me for shrinking back from using my spiritual gifts. Help me to rely on you fully. I will place all my trust in you. Set me on fire. Fan the flame of my desire to serve you. Fill me with your power, love and self-control. Make me bold in your service.  I will do that for you. I will go where you guide me. I will do whatever you ask of me. That will be very good.

Lord, I know that you do not want me to live a timid life as I follow and serve you. You have given me a spirit of power, love and self-control. Help me to boldly use the gifts you have given me so I will bear fruit for your kingdom and bring glory to your name. Amen

Fan Into Flame

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide - Prayer - 2 Timothy 1:6-7 - Fan Into Flame - Growing As Disciples

Discipleship Devotional Study Guide – Prayer – 2 Timothy 1:6-7 – Fan Into Flame – Growing As Disciples

For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:6-7 (NIV)

Fan Into Flame

I don’t want anything to be unused and go to waste. What’s that? I don’t want any of my spiritual gifts to be unused and go to waste. I don’t want any of my spiritual gifts to go undiscovered and undeveloped and underutilized. I want to bear an abundance of fruit for your kingdom. I want to bring glory to your name. That’s good. My own timid and feeble efforts will accomplish none of that. I will not be able to go and do your will without your help. I will not be able to accomplish your purposes and fulfill your plans without you powerfully working in and through me with the spiritual gifts that you have given to me. That’s true.

Who wants to see you discover and use your spiritual gifts more, you or me? You’ve got me there, I’m sure that you want to see me discover and use my spiritual gifts more than I do. Yet, you are quite passionate about wanting to discover and fully use all your spiritual gifts. Yes, I am. Where did this passionate desire to discover and use your spiritual gifts come from? Did you work up this desire in your heart by yourself? Certainly not, it is you who has fanned the flame of this desire in me. Let’s stop and talk about that word. What word? Let’s talk about the word desire. What do you know about me? What do you know about godly desires that are in your heart? You are the giver and granter of godly desires. What does that mean? If you put a godly desire in my heart, then you will certainly grant it. So, you have a godly desire to powerfully use all the spiritual gifts you have been given so you can bear fruit for my kingdom and bring glory to my name. Is that correct? Yes, that is correct. Is there any chance that I will let that passionate desire and prayer of your heart go unheard and unanswered? No, there is no chance of that. That’s right.

Will you keep on serving me? Will you keep on following me? Will you keep on allowing me to work in and through you? Will you continue to go where I guide you? Will you continually do what I ask of you? Yes, I will. Then you have no need to fear that any of your spiritual gifts will go undiscovered, undeveloped, or underutilized. I will powerfully use you to bear fruit for my kingdom and bring glory to my name. For that, I am very thankful.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the spiritual gifts you have given to me. Help me to discover and use my spiritual gifts. I don’t want any spiritual gift that you have given me to be unused and go to waste. Powerfully use my gifts to bear fruit for your kingdom. Amen
